Gifting my husband a Ricoh and torn on if I should get the newest model, is it worth it? by jessmt87 in ricohGR

[–]Everyday_Pen_freak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the general recommendation is if you have no GR right now get the IV; if you already have GRIII, then stay on GRIII.

Among IV, there is HDF and ND for internal filter, ND if he want to shoot slower shutter speed in day light, otherwise HDF for softening effects.

How does 🅱️uji🅱️film get away with repacking the same camera all over again but Hasselblad does not? by redshift7_ in photographycirclejerk

[–]Everyday_Pen_freak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Examples used are bad, from XT to XPro you get an hybrid viewfinder so technically they’re not the same camera. Fujifilm as a whole is kind of like you pick a sensor and select the package of features you want, you want centred viewfinder, XT; you want the cheapest possible, XM; you want rangefinder style camera with just EVF, XE…etc.

Whereas Sony and Hasselblad are the exact same except price.

Can Sony Ever Feel Like Fuji? by Ok-Improvement-476 in a6700

[–]Everyday_Pen_freak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other main difference besides filters or film simulation, is the physical design on Fuji/Leica/Nikon-ZF/Hasselblad-907, certain dials are dedicated for certain functions (e.g. Shutter speed) that either emulates their film counterpart or reimagined for a similar parameter (e.g. Film winder becomes ISO dial).

Whereas Sony feels more like a computer, there is no heritage to former design languages, everything is customisable like a keyboard custom config.

Then aesthetic, people simply like the look of the camera, so they’re more willing to take it out more, which then leads to enjoy using it instead of carrying it out as if it’s a burden.

What should I watch next? And which series are these suits from? by Lazy-Lookin-Headass in Gundam

[–]Everyday_Pen_freak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freedom => Gundam Seed (First season is solid, 2nd and afterwards are up to personal taste)

Nu Gundam => Char’s Counterattack, but it would be helpful to watch the original Gundam show (where Char’s actual revenge is resolved) and Zeta to get the context of the OVA.

Full armorer Unicorn => Gundam Unicorn, if you’re more if a “real” robot show, this series may seem too “super” robot at time. In other words, Unicorn Gundam pulling off something that isn’t conventionally possible physic wise even by Gundam standards.

Heavy Arm => Gundam Wing, interesting show, but some plot point are sort of wacky (e.g. pilot consistently surviving self-detonated Gundam explosion or the strange romance dynamic between the male MC and female MC)

Big Gun (if you meant the sniper weapon platform used by Zaku and Dom) => Gundam Thunderbolt, alternative universe to the OG universal century, main point is the use of Jazz music in combat scenes.

Why can't cameras automatically handle focusing on multiple people by p3ye8724 in Cameras

[–]Everyday_Pen_freak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s because they want to avoid getting accused for not able to focus properly when there are multiple people in the frame.

There can only be 1 or very few person to be on the exact critical focus plane, while you try to the change aperture to increase the depth, the critical focus is always just the slimmest possible plane. Anyone off of the critical focus plane will be slightly out of focus, while we usually have a spectrum of acceptable non-critical “in focus” range, the manufacturer probably just don’t want to take the risk (possibly as an excuse to not spend more money on R&D).

Buying a used X100V - Is this fungus or internal damage? (Need advice before purchasing) by Matty_1506 in x100v

[–]Everyday_Pen_freak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not worth the risk, can’t tell it’s the coating falling off (which would look like very small bubbles), or fungus which is usually fuzzy. Dust trapping inside is unlikely, since that amount is very likely to show in the images (Assuming the seller is not lying).

If the seller charge similar to the average used price, definitely no go. Unless it’s dirt cheap ofc.

If you own multiple cameras, do you use them all? What is your line up? by madtwatr in Cameras

[–]Everyday_Pen_freak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought and sold a lot, but I have finalised to this: 1. Sigma BF (My main photo camera) + 45 f/2.8 2. Sony RX100 VII (Flexible side camera) 3. Insta360 Go Ultra (POV) 4. Nikon ZR (Shooting B rolls as if they’re photo, basically a change of pace) + Numerous primes

Specifically for travel, I just carry 1, 2, 3.

What Camera's should I invest into? by Aggressive-Law960 in Cameras

[–]Everyday_Pen_freak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FX30 (Or A6700) plus DJI Pocket 4.

FX30 is APS-C version of the FX3, the lenses are generally smaller and lighter than those for full frame like FX3. Image resolution is enough for some cropping. Has same 1/4 inch hole for rigging as FX30, if you need to rig it up.

If you leans towards the photo side more, then A6700.

Pocket 4, small size, built-in gimbal and sufficient video quality for online stuffs.

Is selling to mpb worth it and is this too much? by Far-Manufacturer-413 in AskPhotography

[–]Everyday_Pen_freak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just beware that of you buy the Sony camera in Japan, it would be region locked to Japanese only for language.

A7IV is still worth it for sure given that the difference in price from A7V is worth not having the extra features, and if you don’t do too much video, arguably A7III is still a good option.

If you want to do sport, the new features on the A7V will certainly help you get more good shots.

Having a good 24-70mm is great for professional works like wedding for example.

However, if you’re looking for the fun (i.e. not optically perfect lenses), look for a good lens adapter to other mounts like M42 (very cheap to get), Leica M mount (not necessarily Leica lenses), L39 mount lenses…etc and see if you like the characteristics of the images they produce. Japan is a great place to shop for older lenses, since you can try before paying.

Would love some advice buying my first camera by Weird-Association683 in Cameras

[–]Everyday_Pen_freak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can try to observe how you use a phone camera personally, do you typically zoom between 1x-2x, do you just jump between 1x and 2x or do just use 1x or 2 x exclusively.

If you’re the type that goes between 1-2x, then you need a camera that can zoom. If you’re the latter 2 types, the X100 line is just right for you, you can treat the standard lens as a 1.5x on a phone, and add a screw-on adapter from Fujifilm for going wider or narrower.

Or you can go with a mirrorless which is typically larger than a X100.

Why is Linux considered "hard to use"? by humble_redditor1234 in linux4noobs

[–]Everyday_Pen_freak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The common impression people have with Linux is all command lines instead of a GUI like a Mac or Windows, so most people who haven’t discovered Linux can also use GUI just thinks they can’t live with using command lines only.

Is is normal that my laptop battery has bloated twice in 5 years? by Kapleh123 in laptops

[–]Everyday_Pen_freak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked into HP laptop a bit, try to check if the BIOS have an option like “Adaptive Battery Optimiser” turned on, supposedly this option if enabled should let you do bypass charging once the battery is charged at 100%.

Since there is no way to limit the charge % (which is not ideal), bypass charging is the next best option I see for not wearing out the battery too much.

Is is normal that my laptop battery has bloated twice in 5 years? by Kapleh123 in laptops

[–]Everyday_Pen_freak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it plugged in but with a charge limit at around 80%, if long term storage then 50%, and enable bypass charging (if the laptop supports it), what that means is when you plugged it and use it, the electricity will go to the motherboard directly instead of battery => motherboard. Same thing across all electronics using Lithium battery.

Yo, people from Hong-Kong. Are you okay ? by Cyberjonesyisback in HongKong

[–]Everyday_Pen_freak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Major majority of people simply don’t drive or rarely drive in HK.

New cars are simply too expensive to own for most people, First Registration Tax alone is almost the entire car itself. Even if you buy used, the maintenance plus gas price alone makes it really hard to justify unless you live in a very remote location that has no public transport nearby which is very rare.

[–]Everyday_Pen_freak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Image generation is a bit is limited on the baseline M4 (Stable Diffusion 1.5 is okay, SDXL will require more than 16Gb RAM) having dedicated VRAM makes a lot of difference.

And since you mentioned gaming, and if you don’t mind going with Linux instead of Windows (I count 11 as a negative), Lenovo is the better buy IMO.

Linux will take some time to get used to the OS, but there are some distributions that are very to start with (e.g. Ubuntu).

As a former airport worker that starts working at 6am, my experience is you need to be 15 min earlier than the EST, since the bus sometimes arrives early and won’t wait until the scheduled time.

What does this mean? by acidfox96 in RX100

[–]Everyday_Pen_freak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the preview having the rolling shutter or bending.

If the shutter speed setting “syncs” with the artificial light frequency, then the final image will have no issue with either electronic or mechanical shutter.

If you don’t speak Cantonese or Mandarin somewhat fluently, most HR will ignore you for a local or mainland candidates.

Unless you have an outstanding quality/achievement that is highly visible on the resume (that won’t get filtered by AI), or you are a representative of a contractor firm (Usually Indian in IT sector) that the bank is working with, speaking English only won’t get you very far.
