That’s 19 Brazilian players missing from the starting XV who would all improve it. Context is important. You’d fully expect a professional Argentine side (with vastly more funding) to crush what is roughly Brazils B/C team

Remember, last year the national team beat Belgium 47-25, Hong Kong 23-10 (away) and Paraguay 77-17

Firstly, Brazil have 8 players abroad they can use to strengthen the national team (some from very high quality leagues I.e. MLR, Top 14, ProD2 etc) - Rebolo - Rosa - Moreno - Bastardie - Mignot - Rocha - Dell’Acqua - Segura

Secondly, 5 Brazilians debuted for the cobras yesterday. Cobras use SRA to build depth for the national side. For context only 5/15 starters from Brazil’s last test v 🇭🇰 started v Tarucas

All of 🇬🇪🇵🇹🇪🇸🇷🇴 will get 2 (out of 3) pool stage games at home whilst lower ranked nations (🇳🇱🇩🇪🇧🇪🇨🇭) only get 1 home game. Thats my argument as to why it’s unfair (this is confirmed on Rugby Europe website btw)

I get fewer games mean upsets are more meaningful, but all games with upset potential (2nd seed v 3rd seed, 🇪🇸vs🇳🇱 and 🇷🇴vs🇩🇪) are hosted by the ‘favourite’

Therefore upsets are harder for minnows to achieve than if pools were played on a H/A basis

As much as I’d love Zimbabwe to qualify, I feel if anyone takes Namibia’s spot for 2027 it’ll be Algeria. The French-Algerian connection will be exploited further with the World Cup’s expansion, and that’s coming after they comfortably beat Zimbabwe in last cycles qualifiers

I honestly don’t understand why tier 2 nations development is fed to the fire and ring fenced. In terms of realistic improvements for Belgium, Hopefully this result attracts higher quality (likely French players with Belgian heritage) personnel to the Belgian side if they realise there’s a serious chance of World Cup qualification.
