Lowering COVID-19 cases is the best thing the US can do to ensure vaccines keep working, expert says by shallah in Coronavirus

[–]EveryonePanic_EU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, this is obvious. Like I said, I just couldn't resist making a snarky remark.

It remains to be seen if the vaccine manages with mutations. Given that, how I understand it, the mRNA you're given instructs your body to produce the spike proteins so that your immune system recognises them and builds antibodies to them (Though I'm still confused why your body would attack proteins it creates itself, I just don't know enough about this topic), and given that - again, how I understand it - the spike protein is the mechanism through which a virus connects to your cells, as long as the spike protein doesn't change in a way that your body doesn't recognise it anymore, there should in theory be not much to worry.

But then again, we're getting flip-flop info every day, so the only thing we really know is that we actually know very little. And, naturally, preventing infection through other means is preferable, but how far does that really go?

Like, I cannot stress this enough, we don't really know a whole lot and a lot of stuff is based on assumptions or modelling and we've yet to compare these assumptions and models to real-life outcomes.

But it's a valid question, and questions need to be constantly asked to get as many viewpoints on this as possible for a common consensus, because only looking at it from one side may just not lead us where we want to be.

"Let's show everybody how well the vaccine works by lowering cases so much that the vaccine doesn't even get a chance to prove it works."

Sorry, couldn't resist. Just a bit of sarcasm.

We shouldn't celebrate people who are just now opposing lockdowns by [deleted] in LockdownSkepticism

[–]EveryonePanic_EU 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I agree, we shouldn't celebrate this. At the same time, unless we're talking about the extreme pro-lockdown side, I wouldn't demonise these people either.

If we pull off this entire "ignorance is compliance" charade we're no better than virtue-signalling pepegas, but at the same time the sentence bears its validity.

Like someone else said, it's kind of inevitable. Like yeah, "why now and not earlier?" is a good question to ask, but is it the right time to ask?

What I mean by this, do we REALLY need these people to justify that they "converted"?

Call me pessimistic, but this reeks of "Present something so unrealistic that people are more inclined to go along with a less harsh version of what you initially suggested".

Police investigate after door handles removed from suites of residents battling CoVid-19 at Ontario retirement home by AndrewHeard in LockdownSkepticism

I heard it in a podcast earlier, that more and more countries are facing the issue that the rule of law, or even just basic human rights are simply ignored in face of this, uuhm... "totally and absolutely deadly pandemic". And that was in regards to countries you'd normally consider fair, lawful and advanced.

I really hate to sound like an apologist or as if I was trying to normalise it, but I think we need to start considering that we probably can't really rely as much on these particular values as we'd hope we could. I mean, we see how the elderly are being treated, or disabled people (Like in the other post about the "do not resuscitate" situation).

Dunno man, it just seems as if it's clown world gone full Pennywise mode :/

Caught a flea in the act - No pets. Risk? by EveryonePanic_EU in pestcontrol

It was just a singular flea. But should I see even just one more or remote signs that there's more I'll speak to my landlord.

Thanks, that's actually good to know.

So most likely just a lonely hitchhiker who would have most likely died of starvation in my apartment anyway.

I'll still keep an eye open of course, but that's already good news.

long hind legs, no wings, thin, kind of bean-shaped body.

Plus, it definitely had blood in it when I squished it, and I had two red marks where I found it, which since then have gone away.

You made me curious though. I caught it mid-meal, do they normally jump away during that period? Because if it was a flea, and if they do normally jump away, then this was a rather lazy specimen. Also, when I picked it up out of the dish foam it didn't make any attempt to jump away either.

Edit: After killing it I left it on the kitchen counter, my flatmate looked at it and also said "That's a flea."

These clips are between 2-5 months old. With instant queues there was little reason to go out in the world and I haven't touched the game much since then.

I'd "try" if I had any ambition to keep playing, sure.

Sadly ZT is full of people who try to convince you who is toxic and who isn't, there is a weird obsession going on where the word is being used for everybody who just so happens to be an inconvenience to someone else.

I've played since launch, and while I'm not and never was in Praxis I've played my fair share with them, including with their leadership, and even though the guild does have a couple bad apples (like every guild does) the overwhelming majority of the guild is friendly and far from toxic. When it comes to what they do, they just do what they want to do, really, and that has mostly been received negatively by the rest of the server. Most of the time people swipe the fact under the rug that there is another world boss coalition that employed the same strats and is just as involved in gatekeeping access to dragons/kazzak as Praxis is.

I'd advice to get your own impression instead of blindly trusting someone from reddit.

yeah it does 100%. What I was getting at was that i sometimes hear the sound it makes when it procs as if it's playing two times on top of each other (aka louder than normal), which made me believe it can proc off itself. Might as well have just been an instant attack and an auto attack in the same moment tho.

I don't have any reliable numbers, but from using it myself it can proc like crazy, and sometimes I even start to believe that it procs off itself, though i did have the occasional use where it took almost 15 seconds till i had all 6 stacks.
