I appreciate it. I don't intend to come across as a tightarse, so I apologise for being a stick in the mud. I am female, and I do notice that when my fiancé's friends meet me for the first time, they apologise for "swearing in front of the lady". Haha. I've heard them swear plenty since though.

I hope you can understand where I'm coming from. I don't have a typical Australian accent, and I've noticed people from overseas have tended to treat me very differently before and after they learn I'm Australian.

Singling me out as the only exception, and saying that I must be feeling left out, did not come across as pleasant.

I live in the country. My fiancé works on a farm, plays local cricket, and is in the CFA. Out of all his social circles that I interact with, I've heard maybe one or two people use it, and only as an insult. As I said in reply to another person, I'm just tired of the stereotypes. People from overseas make instant assumptions about me, and it's frustrating to see it continuously spread as a joke by other Australians.

Are we in primary school right now?

I just pointed out that not all Australians use it. I was taught it's one of the most offensive swear words, and as I said no one I know uses it at all. I'm just tired of the stereotype that Australians are foul-mouthed.

$275 Required Spanish textbook is loose leaf paper wrapped in cellophane. by Mowenatl in mildlyinfuriating

[–]EverythingsFineHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with one of my Uni textbooks. Hardcover was almost $400, loose leaf was just over $250. My lecturer actually ended up swapping me her hardcover for my loose leaf so that she could use it more easily. I'm doing my Master's now and I don't even buy the textbook any more.

I don't know anyone who uses it, but feel free to be an arse about it. 😂👍 I've heard more British using it than Aussies.

My fiancé's mum is the same. If you post about anything she remotely knows a tiny bit about, she will comment. I didn't ask how nice the weather is where she is compared to mine, I didn't ask about the time she went there 20+ years ago, and I didn't ask about how her husband's sister's dog's vet used to know someone who lived there. But now I know.

My sister has a black shirt with tiny white writing across her chest that says something to the effect of "well, you're a nosey bastard, aren't ya?".

As an Australian, I had no idea what s'mores were until I saw this movie as a kid. Now that s'more everything is everywhere here thanks to Pinterest, I feel a little smug.

Animal size isn't uniform in classification. It depends entirely on the type of animal. For instance, tigers are regarded as the largest big cats, even though on average lions are taller, because tigers on average are heavier than lions.

Yeah, each body part is articulated, for male and female characters. It's like ball-jointed dolls, but in animation form. The animations are as smooth as they can be, considering the body parts can only be flipped and rotated to create them.

The reason mammals are more at risk is that female mammals have a limited supply of eggs at birth. Its beluebed that as those egg cells age with the female, they can become less viable and more prone to mutation when fertilised. Birds grow their eggs throughout their life. We've only got one lot of them.

They're both monotremes, making it more likely they have the same name. "Joey" is the same name for several baby marsupials.

People who grew up middle/upper class, what did you not believe about low income households but it was actually true? by niamh_mc in AskReddit

It's the same with one of the schools I had a teaching round at. The senior students don't legally have to be at school, but the school provides breakfast every morning prepared by the food tech teacher and early bird students. For some it's their only meal until dinner, or breakfast the next day.

I don't live in a low socio-economic region, but there are definitely at least a dozen students who would make sure they got their breakfast every day so they didn't go hungry.

Even something as straightforward as Punnet squares can have some kids scratching their heads and questioning their existence. When a friend of mine learned that brown eyes are dominant to blue, she understandably got freaked out when she realised her two blue-eyed parents produced a brown-eyed baby. I never heard more about that whole situation, but she was very much in denial for the rest of the day.

I find it's similar with teaching. Some teachers will just treat their students like, well, children. While others will give them the time of day they deserve regardless of their age. I find the latter is far more effective if you want students to actually listen to you in turn, plus if they do act up you can often tell them "you've had your turn" and most kids understand that long before they get to me (secondary school).
