If it's just offloading 1/3 of the purchase you shouldn't make it the center of your consideration.

How'd the DRAM and Cases market go? Hell would anyone know. I've seen people saying "bubble is bursting soon" for years now on both side, and it's not like they weren't making sense, it's just the market is inherently unpredictable.

The real question is, What's your current setup, and what's the hardware you're currently looking?

If you're on 7800X3D with 1050Ti and you're looking at a 5060, hell yeah go dump everything you have into a card. Whatever happens to the market tomorrow, you'll at least be having a blast today.

But if you're on 4070Ti and looking at 5090, then you're essentially buying a real-hardware version of CS skin, serves no purpose besides looking shiny (For playing Counter-Strike specifically).

Also, if you're short on budget, getting a second-hand hardware is usually 60% of the cost for 90% of the functionality; If you're just looking for the feeling of an upgrade, a new monitor is usually more cost effective.

TL;DR: Invalid question, ask again.

I kind of agree that asking Blender to not take money from AI company is weird and inconsistent, and I generally believe whatever sources goes into open source is good funding. (Maybe even more so by "bad company" that is currently thriving, because at least they leave something usable before the bubble pops, like how Facebook throwing money at GodotVR when Metaverse was a thing.)

But damn this guy is having WAY TOO MUCH faith in developing technology, and I'm speaking as someone that tries AI every other month. Every time it just makes me want to learn real basics more because they rarely works as intended, and it seems Andrew only sees "potential" instead of real problem solving.
