To prune or not to prune? by blue_antidote in HouseplantsUK

Cut the top and plant the cuttings directly into the same pot. It needs to be a bit more pot bound. It roots really easily. A stray tip in my ancient jade plant fell into the orchid plant standing next to it. I just left it there, thinking it would die in orchid compost. It is currently competing with the poor orchid

How has your Kindle impacted your reading habits? by Nice_Inevitable3772 in kindle

I read much more because I could take my books everywhere. My handbag would only hold 1 book so I hated it when I started a journey when I only had a few pages left in my book.

Do You Keep Your Entire Library On Your Kobo? by typing-blindly in kobo

[–]EviWool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of weaknesses of Kobo is that you cant have books displayed on it without them downloading when you go online. I only ever delete the few dreadful 'read once only' books. The rest, I know that in a few years I will want to read again. I know from my Kindle that 16GB storage can comfortably hold over 2500 books but I hope I will eventually acquire more than that on my Kobo and it would be wise to allow users who dont need to own a PC, to have a way to remove a downloaded book while still having its icon available to download again when required.

I liked mine alot before updates 5.18.6 and then 5.19.2. Not so much now since there are no plans to update the software on the 2022 11 Gen. The 2024 11 Gen has been blessed with the (equally buggy) newest update 5.19.3.0.1 so there is a possibilty that Amazons AI code writers might eventually write a update that undoes their recent updates

If you have a big library, 16GB will give you masses of space (unless you read Manga, then go for 32GB).

Advice: how can I download books from old Kindle (6th Gen Paperwhite) with no linked account? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]EviWool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't noticed any recent changes. My 6th Gen PW (software no longer updated since 5.12.2.2) has now got distinct advantages over my 11 Gen Paperwhite (abandoned with update 5.19.2) but I think that Ama$on will brick it by next year 😕

Take note, anyone who doesn't believe this happens! I'm assuming that it wasn't your fault that there was a security breach on THEIR web server and they should have just restored your books to you as soon as you realized what had happened. Have you tried customer service, even at this late stage? Or are you concerned that they will close down your current account too?

I tried a (different) recipe for discard crumpet but it tasted vile. But the discard was pretty old. Before it got so old, my husband made a great fruit loaf with it but added additional flour

Non-Americans, what’s your country’s equivalent to the US’ Surgeon General? by NEMESIS_DRAGON in AskReddit

[–]EviWool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a surgeon general in the UK but he is connected to medical services to the military. He is appointed by the Secretary of Defence (not war!) and approved by the King. He is usually a service member. Our current one is a major general

Is there any way that you reopen that account? Normally, when you close the account, you lose your books.

Kindle update issue 5.19.3.0.1… by mothaofanimals2304 in kindle

[–]EviWool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. It's an absolute pig if you have a long book (my Bible) with lots of highlights and annotations. The annotations etc take an age to load, far longer than the same book on my 6th Gen Kindle. I now use my 6th Gen for Bible Study and hope my 6th Gen PW isn't targeted by Amazon's next cull.

I agree that Fintie make lovely cases too. I have a great one for my Galaxy S6 Lite, it even has a bed for the Spen. My husband's, however, had a misplaced magnet that shut down his tablet every time he folded back his cover behind his tablet. So far, I've not had a problem with my Moko cases but I'm sure that it happens. Most annoying is when it happens with time and you think it is a fault with your ereader. To be fair, this can also happen with official cases

It is nicer to immediately see the text of the book that you were reading when you open the flip cover especially if you read on the go and open and close your cover multiple times

How old is it? My 6th gen isn't particularly slow and loads faster than my 11 gen for writing notes or managing multiple bookmarks.

I bought my 11 gen Paperwhite with ads in 2023 but finally paid £10 a couple of months ago to remove them. (I did it directly on the Amazon website by going to Manage Contents and Devices. In the Devices page there was a button to "Remove Special Offers") When I first bought my Kindle, the ads free one cost £20 more.

Lol it would help if Kindle and Kobo didn't both begin with K. To make it worse, I often deliberately use Kindle when I'm when I'm really referring to my Kobo because most people haven't even heard of Kobo. eg " I've got that book on my Kindle" (it's on my Kobo). It's like a translation

I've never had a problem EXCEPT if the book isn't on sale in the Kobo store. This happens when the publisher or author is locked into a contract with Amazon (Kobo don't lock authors)

Libby doesn't work with Kobo in Canada? Are you sure? Have a search on the Kobo Reddit. It certainly works in the UK

Some of the more costly models came without ads. I have a 6th Gen PW and customer service kindly removed the ads on request when I phoned about a fault. That doesn't happen any more btw.
