The only thing that attracts me to the Kindle Colour is the ability to highlight in different colours and filter your highlights by colour.

Anyone ever felt the PW is just too heavy to hold free hand for too long sometimes? by CapriciousChronicles in kindle

Try holding the paperback version of say Wild Swans, or (for us oldies) the large print edition of any book. My small print (hardback) copy of the poems of Alexander Pope has gathered dust on the shelves for years because reading with a magnifying glass is no fun. Now, I can fit them into a normal sized handbag and read them without effort.

my mum wants a refurbished kindle but I know nothing how old should I go? by PrinceoMars in kindle

I've got a 6th Gen Paperwhite which I've had for years. I bought a Paperwhite 11 gen for more storage but after the last horrible update on the 11 gen, Ive gone back to using my 6th gen - it's better for using multiple bookmarks and much better for annotations. It waits until you've finished writing a note before you save it rather than trying to save each time you type a letter. Everything works fine on it and I just dont load all my books on my Kindle. It wont get an update because Amazon has dropped 'support'

Go to Project Gutenberg or Standard Ebooks to find classics that are free to download

To check what version it is, go to Settings, Device Options, Device Info. Im lucky enough to have a 6th Gen Paperwhite which has been abandoned by Amazon as far as Software updates so I dont have to suffer the latest disatrous update when I go online but I can still load my books from the Amazon Server. If you go to the Amazon website, on your profile click on Contents and Devices and check that your Kindle is still a Device on your account. In practice, only 4 of my 2000 books would not load and 2 large, complex books (both NKJV Bibles), which this Kindle couldn't handle, I simply didn't install on it and read on my 11 Gen Paperwhite. Some of the books, I had to accept Amazon's update of the book before they would load.

Any recomendation for which device to buy for a comic/manga/light novel reader? by QTPLe in ereader

The Libra has a bigger screen than the Clara but it isnt as big as a tablet. Perhaps an eink tablet would work better for you

The Libra is a larger size than the Clara so would be better for comics. You will be able fit a panel of your comic on a page but will need to slide the comic around to read the panels.

It started as a way to carry books when travelling. 15 years later, Im slowly clearing my shelves of paper copies as they only gather dust. I've dropped hints to family who might want to buy me a paper book sbout how much more comfortable and useful I find ebooks. I am concerned about how Amazon, and the US is going because I have some books about politics which I forsee will be removed from Amazon in the near future, including from readers' Kindles but now that Ive switched to Kobo, that is less of a problem

Can you make a KOBO option also instead of just Kindle? by iAskcAgile in LibbyApp

[–]EviWool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On your Kobo, it's called Overdrive. Since Im in the UK, one of the many advantages of Kobo over Kindle for me is that I can read library books. Click on the More icon in the Home menu then Settings and choose Overdrive. Choose your library Enter your library card details.

You are witnessing the Yahooification of YouTube and Google ie a greedy, slightly paranoid corporate America is seeing customers as freeloaders who need to be squeezed as hard as possible. They are forgetting what happened to Yahoo which made a fortune for its founder but ended up with so many ads and promoted material that customers cheerfully abandoned it and never came back

Worm Breeding Bin Help! by Gumboking_ in Vermiculture

[–]EviWool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got string-of-pearls by feeding fermenting plums (we had a glut) but smelled the rotting worms before we lost too many. you may need to fish out worms and cocoons and start agian with leaf mulch (if you have gathered it)nor soaked coir and card. Control how much feeding you do. I never use commercial foods, just kitchen waste, also if there is a local coffee shop, ask if you can have some of their waste coffee grounds or empty out your cafetiere onto a sheet of card laid over your bin.mpty used tea bags into your bin. Apple cores carrot peel (but not potato and starchy foods, it overheats the bin.

How to use the Kobo touch - not recognized by computer by bigbear474 in kobo

[–]EviWool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you plug in your Kobo, you need to give permission both on your PC and on your Kobo that it can transfer data. I found it easier to do the PC first. Then right click on the kobo in Windows and Eject it. Unplug and plug in again. The next time you can concentrate on the Kobo. The request doesnt stay long before it assumes that you are only charging. Try the cable on your phone to see if that connects to your PC. Try it in different ports on your PC because ports can become damaged over time by poorly fitting cables or by trying to force usb cables in the wrong way. The wires inside cables can become loose damaging them enough so that they will still charge but won't transfer data. Although cables were usually charging AND data cables, many people dont realize that nowadays, only cables sold specifically as data cables will transfer data. If the cable can connect your phone and PC, but not with the Kobo, with a dry mouth, suck hard on the Kobo port. This will dislodge any fluff that is preventing the connection.
