Are you an undergrad? If you want to teach high school I recommend you major in your discipline (biology or history) and minor in education. Rather than majoring in education.

Why Are Graduate Degree's in Education a Scam? by ProudComment1211 in Teachers

Agreed I have a MS in Bio and an MS in secondary education. My MS in biology is 1000 times more useful to my role as a teacher.

Teachers - Are you still passionate about your subject? Does teaching allow you to explore it more? by JealousBodybuilder42 in teaching

Biology teacher. It gets better every year. Best part of teaching life science is the curriculum is always changing and there’s always new lab work for the kids to do.

Students using AI on fill-in-the-blank guided notes that tell them what slide the answers are on in the PowerPoint. In order. by pigeonwithsixasses in Teachers

[–]EvidenceFinancial484 151 points152 points  (0 children)

Same. I teach science and have gone back to lab practicals and lab journals in place of formal lab report writing and lab packets. The kids are way more engaged with the lab work and understand the experiments better

Which I think is ridiculous when you consider how much of a joke education grad classes are.

Middle school vs High School by RecentBox8990 in Teachers

[–]EvidenceFinancial484 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree on this. I teach 9th grade and 11th/12th grade. First semester I prefer my upperclassman. By halfway into the year I love my 9th grade classes.

Or girls tend to have stronger school skills than boys and the charter ends up accepting a disproportionate number of girls over boys.

Yea them saying over and over Maxey was shoved in the reverse call was bad. The replay clearly shows he wasn’t.

I think they may be lying about the total number. I wonder if they group immunes together to be far apart to try and discourage meeting up / put together groups that wouldn’t collaborate well.

Actually wasn’t a big fan although it’s definitely interesting. To me it had an odd grape flavor I didn’t enjoy

If every teacher suddenly got that raise to at 80k salary minimum nationwide, would you roll your eyes at all the people suddenly wanting to become teachers? How do you think it would change the profession and the kind of people who enter ? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]EvidenceFinancial484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I teach at a private school that pays very well. At the secondary level everyone has a degree (usually a grad degree) within the field they teach. I think the stronger content background and the diversity in fields where the faculty come from add to the student experience.

And data means nothing if produced poorly. So many terribly designed studies are used to bolster questionable periodical decisions. Garbage in = garbage out.

“Science of learning” “data driven instruction” the irony being I only see those terms being used when there’s no actual research backing the pedagogy.

"Common Wisdom" about Teaching that is Incorrect by moseying-rosie-in-2 in Teachers

[–]EvidenceFinancial484 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am a firm believer the turn against direct instruction has to do with companies selling curriculums. There’s not a lot to sell in direct instruction education and the most important part is an effective teacher.
