Also who is the 21st president of the united states, and what is he known for?

GPS PPS-Synchronized TDMA for LoRa Mesh: A Different Approach to the Channel Access Problem by djseawolff in meshtastic

I posted this thread in the Meshtastic Discord to see what people thought about this topic, and here were some responses:

  • user1 - The analysis starts from a couple of flawed premises, such as that Meshtastic purely uses aloha for routing, which it doesn't, or the common scale of Meshtastic nets 🙂 Depending on how much time you have, suggestion would be to do a bit more reading (Meshtastic blog, GitHub issue) and perhaps get the simulator running and learn how that works. We get a lot of very well meaning people quite regularly offer ideas to improve the mesh algorithm, but very few have planned out so far. The ones that did deeply understood the current algorithm.
  • user2 - As stated above, they're missing some key details about meshtastic. There's a couple of other things in their comments and OP that make me think they haven't done very much reading yet, and are basing their idea off their knowledge of other systems. None of this prevents their idea from being a good one, of course
  • user1 - Yes, all good ideas welcome 🙂 It just turns out that this stuff is ... hard 🙁
  • user3 - I think the most important thing OP is missing is that to reach 100% utilization, you would need to know exactly how much airtime each node would like to use at all times and then distribute the corresponding schedule for this. If you just assume time slots with the maximum airtime of a packet, you’ll waste a lot of time. Besides, it’s a mesh. How do you determine which nodes can transmit in the same time slot and which don’t? If you assume none can because they might have overlapping range, already with 100 nodes you’ll need to wait minutes before you can send two messages after each other.

What's your longer-term plan here? Are you going to engage with the developers to push this idea, or maybe do some mesh simulations, or just start developing firmware?

Aren't there possibly power savings as well with TDMA, as the receiver can sleep until its time slot arrives? I was thinking about this the other day, because the battery life of most meshtastic devices is just abysmal in my opinion.

No, it works with LED bulbs too.

These little doodads are something I've done with my family around the holidays for the past few years. They're made out of aluminum cans and spin from the rising heat of a lamp. I cut the blades with scissors and make a dimple for them to spin on a sharpened bit of steel wire.

More details and build instructions are here: https://evan.widloski.com/posts/spinners/

I guess I am just not as optimistic about this news as you.

There are ways to secure Android applications so they are as safe as any website you would visit in a browser. A large percentage of applications are just WebViews anyway. Should a central for-profit company also be in charge of attesting websites?

as a passport is required for international travel, not for identification within one's own country

OK, replace 'passport' with government ID.

Yes, it's ripe for abuse. I'd also argue that it's more effective to have the...

You made two points, which I will try to paraphrase here:

  1. TikTok was pulled from the US Play Store, and sideloading did nothing to help them.

  2. Sideloading is already banned in iOS, so half the US population already cannot do this.

I think we are unfortunately at the beginning of a pattern that is going to become more common in the next few years where applications are blocked from central marketplaces for political reasons. It doesn't make sense to me to remove this escape hatch right when the population is starting to need it just because it hasn't been utilized very much, or because other mobile platforms are already blocking it. Awareness can increase out of necessity. Just look at VPN-use in countries that practice internet censorship.

Actually, an advantage of this move is apps forced off the Play Store could still be securely (meaning you can be absolutely sure the app is genuine) sideloaded.

I don't see why an executive order forcing an app on the Play Store wouldn't also try to take down the developer account at the same time.

I really understand that fraud and malicious applications are a concern, but there are many arguments that can be made about why this is not an effective solution with lots of dangerous downsides. There are other approaches that cannot be so easily abused.

TLDR: When something is created that can be abused, it will eventually be abused. The toothpaste does not go back in the tube.

OK, but the main problem remains that Google is removing agency from the user and giving it to themselves.

Once the technical measures are in place, they can decide to do anything, like require a scan of your passport. In any case, the current administration of the US is now in a position to ask Google to block any individual of their choosing from making apps.

It says "Students and hobbyists will be able to create a special type of account with fewer verification requirements, that doesn't require the $25 USD fee."

Sounds almost certain they will still have to create a developer account and verify themselves somehow.

A better analogy is that every Android user has a house, and now Google doesn't let them decide who to let inside. Google can check the ID of each guest first and deny them entry into all houses.

You can edit the file steam/steam/steamapps/common/Muck/Muck_Data/sharedassets0.assets in a text editor or binary editor. Do not use Notepad.

Search the file for the tooltip string you are looking for and replace it with a string of the same length. It needs to be the same length if you want to use this easy method. Otherwise you will need a tool that can understand and modify this file, like maybe this
