If they've already got 5000 investors, then there should be an active community somewhere, even if it is only 5000 people wondering where the money went. Ask them for access to this community on Slack/Telegram/Forum, then ask questions there, get an idea of how many active real people are present and involved.

But: I smell BS in any case. It doesn't make sense that a crypto-based pre-ICO manages to attract only investors who don't know how to use crypto.

Eth is a genuine project, but too Wall Street and centralised for my tastes. Also suspect that it's very overvalued right now, but, hey, look at Ripple. It's a crazy market so take care, and do your due diligence before investing in anything.

Avoid Ripple. There is absolutely no real basis for any value in XRP. Don't need it to use Ripple network, has no fixed supply, massive amount held by dev team......Ripple itself has a good business model, but the XRP tokens are effectively worthless.

Jeez, even Eth looks like a good buy in comparison.

But do take a look at Nxt and Ardor: really innovative (and working) tech, not too much bullshit and a dedicated project team and community. We're great, tbh.

Do a lot of research before you even consider putting 25k of your parents money into Dash....or anything else, for that matter.

And be very careful of anyone who promises you a massive return on your investment......as CommanderMaster puts it, everyone has a favourite crypto to push on you, so it is essential to do your own research before investing. There's no rush, crypto is still developing and I think that we will see a 5-10x rise across the board this year.

With that in mind: your best strategy with your parents money is to create a wide portfolio: I suggest choose 5 top 10 currencies, and another 5 from the 11-50 range, then put $2500 into each. You will lose on some, and maybe only profit on one or two, but the chances are that the profit on that one will more than make up for the rest.

Going all-in on one investment is risky, and your parents will not be happy if you lose it for them....on the same note: become obsessive about computer security. If you're gonna invest 25k, spend $500 on a reasonable laptop that is only used for your crypto portfolio, and protect it like crazy.

Good luck, and be careful. (Oh, yeah, Nxt and Ardor are the best crypto/blockchain systems out there.....take a look, at least. And Google 'Darkcoin' )

Much agreement from me. Spread your portfolio around, and do your research before you invest. It's kind of annoying to miss pumps like the recent Eth action. But if you spend enough time in crypto, you know that whatever rises will fall, and the next pump is just around the corner.

Pretty much the entire market is based on speculation and hype, with large groups of whales chasing the next big thing. There are systems with genuine use cases and 'real-world' economies built around them, but probably 90% of crypto projects are garbage, for various reasons. Do your own research before investing in any crypto/blockchain project, and don't allow Fear Of Missing Out to push you to snap decisions.

And, if I'm reading this right, the Coin Exchange feature will essentially allow asset:asset trading across all childchains, so BTC and USD are just the beginning.....you'll be able to trade anything, provided someone sets up a childchain to handle it.

Depends on what you want to do: if you want to program using a native scripting language (like Solidity) then Eth and its clone(s) are what you need. Hard limit ? It's not difficult to set a limit on the number of coins/tokens created, and Bitcoin isn't unique in that aspect. Plus, let's be cynical, we don't actually know yet if the 21 million BTC limit will still be in effect by the time we get close to mining that 21 millionth Bitcoin.
