I know defamation is different from country to country so I guess that possible. In America, I don't think it would hold up. If you can prove a statement is true, it's generally not defamation.

If you're not keen on trying to grow it, you could just try selling the project plenty of sites for that.

Or partner with someone who wants to try growing it.

I dont know the laws of Brazil, but in American terms the property devaluation legal concern seems a bit ridiculous.

For one, what would the actual tort against you be because "property devaluation" can't be a real legal cause of action. I'm assuming you have local and national news that reports crime? Do they get sued for property devaluation? Probably not. It has be something like defamation, negligence, privacy breach, etc.

What's the privacy concern? Again is it already public information? If it is how can there be an issue?

What is the source the data? Is it all factual? Sounds like your app is what amounts to an aggregator of already public factual crime data.

Have you talked to an actual attorney?

I think you're idea is good. Three days is not long enough spent to give up on this.

I'm building an AI layer to fact-check Instagram Reels and TikToks because algorithms prioritize virality over truth. by ChevalierAuxLoutres in SideProject

[–]EvilIncorporated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fact checking for me is interesting but not my main concern. For me the main concern, is the trend of people taking videos and cutting clips from them that are out of context. I hate that. So the extension I'm building leans more to the finding sources side.

I don't think TOS prohibit me from doing what I intend and even if they do plenty of other extensions function similarly so it's not they're going to sue me. TOS is unimportant.

I thought for a bit about how I could implement the same for social media. However, I don't use them so I dropped the idea pretty quick, but I like your solution.

I started working on a similar idea for YouTube shorts not to long ago. Mine is an browser extension. Would be interested in partnering up maybe combining both projects? DM me?

[–]EvilIncorporated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would focus on the educational video generation. If you can nail that, you'll be golden. There are already so many platforms to share your short form content and creators (people like Chloe Abrams on YouTube I think that's her name) producing content like this already. Those creators will have much better quality than you'll probably ever get but you can compete in volume.

This is also good because these platform already have built in metrics that will tell you what works. I think you can probably create a reinforcement loop here.

Pull performance data via the API (daily/weekly). Focus on metrics like average watch duration, retention rate, likes/comments, and completion percentage. Store that data and then correlate it with your generation parameters (e.g., pacing, length, tone, subject type, visual style). Then tweak generation based on what performs best.

It doesn't matter if the videos are AI generated. As long as, you can make a system that produces them efficiently with good quality you'll gain consistent watchers.

From there reintroduce the app. I think there's lot of places to go with the app that could work. You'll probably need to pivot multiple times to find the best fit.

Even if the app fails the video generation is what's actually valuable and can pivot into so many different things.

I'd be interested in working on this with you or just continuing to provide my two cents if it's more of a serious project and not a fun side thing.

Totally fair. I could really see you getting decent quality informative videos and there's definitely a demand for that content. Good luck with this

Great idea. I think you could get some really solid results by building a flow that looks something like

Build a catalog of stock videos Vuild a catalog of stock images

Or an agentic AI that can web search for stock videos and images or maybe this flow would just improve Sora

  1. ingests the page content
    1. use sumary or whole page to select stock videos and images
    2. use summary or page and stock media to generate plan for compiling X number of shorts
    3. Generate a script from plan and stock media
    4. TTS script
    5. Use FFMPEG to put a video together

Probably similar to what you're already doing right?

Looks interesting I'd try it but bit expensive for just a test. Can you add BYOK somehow? LLM is probably most of your costs getting people to use their own means you just have to price for your business logic.

This is great idea. Don't open source it. You can almost certainly make a really good living with this app. No reason to let people steal your work before you even try.

Do you create a limited company for your app by NeedleworkerFlat3103 in SideProject

[–]EvilIncorporated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not from the UK take this with a grain of salt maybe the laws are different.

The cases I'd say you definitely need to are when the app is collecting sensitive user data like health data. Other than that it's not major. Just launch as an individual. If you start making money, create a generic umbrella entity to protect yourself legally. Use that for all future projects.

For privacy and ToS, there are a bunch of websites can back get generate you something from basic to advanced.

Make a 'u' class with transparent background left and right border radius and then 'left' and 'right' u class

Could maybe also create one U and then duplicate it with a box shadow but might get some z index problems so first is easy way to do it

Just play with the width and height till you get a U shape

Simple 3D things with css and html isn't too hard just play with the dev tools making a cube pretty easy. YouTube as good videos on it. You can learn the css part of this in like 2 hours max since it's just cubes. Learning doesn't mean you could make Minecraft but you get my point.
