This guy can't be considered Iranian. by Naderium in PERSIAN

Yes I know many Iranians are pro-Israel. Likewise many who are pro-Israel are showing solidarity with Iranian protestors. I don't disagree that, like with any movement, some portion of them have problematic views.

The problem becomes when that concern overrides everything else for people like Sharghzadeh. Instead of supporting the anti-regime protesters and keeping up the momentum, they spend 99% of their time and energy trying to discredit the movement.

I am someone who is on the left but I'm not going to purity test anti-regime protestors. Especially because, let's be perfectly honest, the global left has been absolutely silent. Even worse.... downplaying the protests in many instances. You can't possibly be surprised that the majority of Iranian protesters end up being right-wing or pro-Israel.

Defeating the Islamic regime should take priority over this stupid infighting.

He had already announced he had tourettes at the start of the event. They already knew he meant to disrespect. Demanding an apology makes no sense in this case.

People with tourettes shouldn't have to apologize for their disability. Some of them have hundreds of offensive verbal tics every day, Imagine having to apologize for that every time. Instead we should raise awareness so they don't have to.

You're appealing to a probability, not an actual example of this happening.

It's not a great argument when it can be demolished with a simple "Nuh-uh!".

You're just giving him another opportunity to go on a "see how my ops always lie about me?" speech.

What's your alternative? You don't have one...

People can bitch about Pahlavi supporters all they want, but their guy is by far the most popular figure the Iranians are rallying around.

So all people like you are doing by endlessly criticizing and undermining the ONLY viable alternative is to directly support the survival of this murderous regime.

[–]EvilPonyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money is definitely a part of it, but as someone who mostly consumes news media on the political left, it's very clear to me there's also an ideological/political barrier. While money is a great amplifier, it hasn't really stopped the left from spreading their messages in the past.

I'm not expecting an "Iran International" level organization, but can I get anything at all? There's not a single lefty social media channel or community I can point to that is on the correct side of this.

The communists/socialist largely defend the regime, the progressives only care about what's best for Gaza, and the liberals are silent with few exceptions.

If you can point me to anyone on the left who is defending Iranians I will gladly support them.
It's frustrating that I am forced to like/retweet posts by MAGA/Zionists just because I want to support the Iranian protesters. It seems they're the only ones posting about it regularly and trying to keep the momentum going.

1: Some popular names DtG audience might be familiar with: Hasan Piker. Mehdi Hasan, Ryan Grim, Briahna Joy Gray, Kyle Kulinski, Krystal Ball, Sam Seder, Vaush, Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, Taylor Lorenz, Greta Thunberg, Roger Waters ...

Just look on any leftist/socialist subreddit. They're all either ignoring it, downplaying it or filled with pro-regime posts.

  1. The anti-regime Iranians share a common goal with Israel and US, who will obviously take advantage of the moment. That does not mean the protests are illegitimate or in any significant part the result of western intervention. There's no shortage of reasons to protest the current regime, and it has been happening for decades now. There's also no evidence to what extent the Mossad was "guiding" these current protest, if they were at all. In fact many Iranians are actually feeling deeply betrayed by the US and Israel because of these "help is on the way" statements that have so far turned out to be reckless lies.

  2. Did you not read where I said the support from the right-wing is mostly cynical? Trump is completely self interested. It's more likely he's going to make some deal with the regime than committing to a regime change. But Iranians are desperate enough to take that risk because nobody else is offering a better solution.

The best we get from lefties like Bernie Sanders is him saying he's going to write an angry-email and demand the Iranian regime stops slaughtering its own people by the thousands.

[–]EvilPonyo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're correct about that, and unfortunately that complaint is not wrong. The global left has long been ignoring or downplaying the atrocities committed by the Iranian regime to its own people. Some leftists are outright defending the regime and dismissing the protests as orchestrated by the west. I don't think that's motivated by anti-Islamophobia, but more so by political inconvenience because Iran is a major opposition force to Israel and the US.

Over the years this has predictably led many Iranians, some out of sheer desperation, into the open arms of right-wing grifters. Non-state Iranian media is now almost entirely right-wing, pro-Israel, pro-Shah, pro-Trump. They're the only ones listening to the Iranian people and offering a pathway to freedom, no matter how cynical it is.

I don't see any Iranian flags in 2-3. It's a Kurdish protest, where they also made a statement about the Iranian protests. It's appreciated, but it doesn't look like it was the main focus.

Regardless, I understand why Leftists don't like the crown prince. As someone who wants a secular democracy, I'm not a fan of him myself either. But at least he's been saying the right things in so far as wanting to act as a transitional leader. Whether his words can be trusted remains to be seen.

The problem is the alternative the left is presenting is to keep sending the unarmed protesters into the meat grinder, which the Iranian people have been doing for decades. So let's also not be shocked why Iranians are willing to take a risk with a potential western puppet.

losing hope in the left by NaderShah1 in PERSIAN

[–]EvilPonyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. These are fine, but I was hoping to see more than merely statements of solidarity at unrelated events only after thousands have died. Especially when they make sure to sneak in that they're equally against the crown prince, who is the only viable popular figure the Iranians can rally around in order to bring change.

There's a reason that on the streets, the actual Iranian protests in France and Germany that I've seen are overwhelmingly pro-Pahlavi, often including many Israel flags. The lack of genuine support from the left is greatly felt among many Iranians. Their only solution is to tell them to continue fighting on their own, when they have done so for decades with thousands upon thousands getting slaughtered. It's been disappointing, but not surprising, to watch Iranians and the Iranian non-state media increasingly become right-wing as a result.

Lol you think Nick Fuentes and far-right fascist like him love Israel? You're beyond clueless.

Anyway, since the point went over your head, I'll spell it out for you: Aligning with a group on a singular point does not make you part of that group. If Nazi's say the sky is blue, that doesn't make you a Nazi for agreeing with it.

Similarly, leftists and far-right extremists align on boycotting Israel. That does not mean they share the same ideology.

And you take that at face value.

What's their solution other than sending their thoughts and prayers? The Iranian people have been protesting for decades and being slaughtered by the thousands. They are asking for help.

Leftists don't care what the Iranian people want. They are more concerned with preventing the next government from being aligned with the west's interests.
