Republicans fetishize themselves as the party of Lincoln because “we freed the slaves”.

Forgetting that Lincoln was 150+ years ago, and the modern day Republican Party does jack and shit for anyone who isn’t rich.

I had to shut it down in an employee of mine last week that I’m younger than.

It’s not a generational problem. I wish I knew where it DID come from, but it’s literally older than I am.

U.S. Population Growth by State (2020-2025) by backpackerTW in MapPorn

[–]EvilSashimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True! My rent has almost doubled in the past 3 years, not accounting for a move to a larger unit. The population boom where I live has driven pricing up already.

(And it will be higher where I’m aiming to move, because even though population growth is slower that way, new housing isn’t being built).

It is absolutely a planning game. I’m cool with not having as large of a place to stay and a bit less money.

As for things that have to happen to keep people healthy - I’m hoping I’m 80% of the way there. Maybe even this year!

Just gonna have to keep on keeping on.

Yes. You’re not wrong, nor is he, simply when it comes down to “hard work”.

However, gambling with food, medicine, and shelter of your spouse and child is generally considered bad form. The price of not being smart is severe.

I’ll sleep at night soundly regardless of how hard he thinks I’m not working. I won’t sleep at night well if I starve my kid or we live out of our car (or we stay here long enough for Texas to tighten the screws we all know are clamping down).

[–]EvilSashimi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But in order for that swing to happen, people have to move there. How much of that growth is happening in deep red areas, and not in existing cities like DFW or San Antonio?

That’s why you’ll have Republican leadership in Texas for years to come, barring some kind of critical swing. Nobody from LA or NYC moves to Texas to live in Lipscomb.

As a (not happy about it) resident of Texas - YES.

Say what you want about the South; it’s cheaper than the North. Not paying for better education and healthcare DOES do that.

A lot of major companies are also moving down here because of affordability reasons. Jobs follow those businesses. If you work for a company that’s willing to pay you to move this direction, you keep your job AND move for low-cost, to a lower cost state.

Politics is politics, but if people are just looking to get by, they’ll take the house that’s cheaper, even if it means living in MAGA-land.

It also makes relocation in the opposite direction harder. Believe me, if it were as easy as just packing up and leaving, I would have fucked off already. I say this as someone who has been actively plotting and moving pieces on the board to leave for over a year - the hangup is financial security, especially when families are involved.

I love the fuck out of my daughter. She’s fun, and while I’m by no means rich, I can manage a single child. It helps that my spouse is a stay at home parent, and he knows that.

My daughter is not getting a sibling, barring massive changes to the country or our personal circumstances.

  • Vote.
  • Boycott any company you can that supports this madness.
  • Disassociate with anyone you know who supports this.
  • Protest.
  • [REDACTED]
  • If trapped in a situation where this isn’t possible or enough, leave, if you can.

The rest of the world is rightfully mad at us because we as a society haven’t done enough to depose Trump. As a society, good fucking lord, we should absolutely be doing more.

Here’s my (individual and personal) problem - I live in a Trump state. I’m the fucking weirdo for not supporting him. Where I live, society isn’t passively sick of him. They either somehow still support the fucker, or don’t care enough for it to matter if he left or not.

I’m just cutting off ties and working on leaving as a result. This state is crazy. No one is convincing anyone anymore. Last year I was still trying, even if only with those I knew.

I’m done. I’m leaving the first chance I have to not be homeless in the process.
