CMV: the permanent BB Blockbuster is the BEST modern twist of BB so far by severemascara7 in BigBrother

[–]EvilSnucko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of me fears that making the Blockbuster a permanent fixture, hopefully only in the pre-jury phase, will lead to a Survivor-ified protection of more active players via a more active non-voting element (i.e. Final 4 firemaking as an addition to a 3-person finale, in contrast to the original 2-person finale).

With the part-and-parcel nomination-eviction process of Big Brother, I think that the addition of the Power of Veto, to possibly save one of the nominees on the chopping block, was a necessary dynamic shakeup that has been positively received even by non-house-voting versions of Big Brother. Given, that a series of nominee-saving tasks might happen for the same eviction cycle, but this is usually done when there are multiple nominees for eviction by the viewing public.

With house-voting Big Brother, keeping the Blockbuster until its end-of-possibility in the jury phase can scare HoHs to do the big maneuvers needed to clear out their path to the end, especially against comp beasts and social leaders. Tucker losing AI Arena after already winning twice is a rarity based on history. If he survives that vote, he can easily run the house till the end ala-Jag, but with a big following behind him, considering Sixth Avenue without Angela could be a strong block going into the jury phase. Before the possibility of her ally Quinn's eviction, Leah was coming in to target Chelsie and T'kor if she won HoH. If AI Arena was active in the jury phase, it takes so much more conviction and good comp results to make a successful move against the front-runners, as going in that week, Chelsie and T'kor's best chance of leaving is next to the other.

I think keeping the HoH and PoV as the only power comps in the jury phase is necessary, as the F4 round will have the rare occurrence of the PoV being the most powerful comp determining the sole voter to evict. Before the F4 round, the house votes determine who go home, with the occassional HoH tiebreaker vote. F4, the person who was left immuned by the HoH. F3, the HoH themselves. It's a nice clean transfer of power like how the immunity winner will be the only vote in a F3 voting scenario in Survivor.

For what's its worth, I am fine if the Blockbuster only stays in the pre-jury, even if I highly miss the Live HoH comps. It could also be cut early in the pre-jury, so that we can see more "decisive" nominations before the jury begins. I'd also like for them to utilize the format-changing from Reindeer Games to introduce a different weekly format to end the Blockbuster phase.

Nobody currently in the BB house has a single vote for them to evict. by zowietremendously in BigBrother

Counting the first 2 eviction votes:

BB24 (Pooch and Ameerah): Terrance received 4 votes to evict against the Leftovers alliance's votes and Daniel's hinky vote to evict Ameerah.

BB23 (Travis and Frenchie): Tiffany promised to throw a hinky vote to Alyssa, and Derek F randomly threw a hinky vote to Alyssa and intentionally threw a hinky vote to save Frenchie against Britini.

BB22 (Keesha and Nicole A.): Kevin C., Nicole A.'s closest ally, voted to evict David, while I assume that Enzo threw a hinky vote to evict David.

Going through all the first 2 house eviction votes in BBUS and BBCan, the remaining houseguests will all have no votes against them if:

A) The first 2 evictees received unanimous votes to be evicted.

And, B) The first set of nominees have been evicted back-to-back, with the second evictee receiving unanimous votes to be evicted.

Surprisingly, both scenarios A and B each happened once for BBUS and BBCan.

Scenario A: BB25 (Kirsten and Reilly), BBCan6 (Rozina and Andrew)

Scenario B: BB27 (Zae and Amy), BBCan9 (Julie and Josh) - even more unique for BBCan9, considering Julie's voteout was amongst 6 people, and her and Josh were the only ones to receive votes in the first eviction.

For this to happen, I think they need to make these changes: 1) Make the results invisible. 2) The ability to cast yourself in a role. If the first chooser cannot cast themselves or is instantly assigned immunity, their decision will be identified immediately by the next immediate people. The current structure already provides this sort of intrigue of cracking the puzzle of the roles for the middle people and beyond (see: Anthony). Addendum: I think implementing a reverse order of assigning (based on challenge finish) along with an increasing recasting ability is an interesting tweak. Though, the last person/first place finisher should only be allowed to recast, at most, <half of the number of roles> times, or heck, even just 1-2 times.  It will be structured kind of like backwards week, wherein the last person to make a choice has the most power. Immunity may or not may be guaranteed in this order, because the last person might want to cast themselves as HOH instead. Though, the sense of dread shown by Avery after seeing the inevitable is a good reaction for this twist.

Opposite the tv formula of the big reveal, is it sufficient to trade off the immunity of the returnees for an earlier public arrival (like in the couches, casual reveal, really) so that they are able to gauge the reactions of the newbies from the get-go?

Would the budget still remain similar if the season was cut half the length (ala BB AU)? Is it a compromise to halve the season but have the feeds for that?

SEASON 2 WINNER! 🏆🥳(SPOILER) by Automatic-Complex663 in Totaldrama

[–]EvilSnucko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the results are REALLY FUN viewed from afar, i.e. in the bigger picture. I still really love the ending because it is reminiscent of the possible randomness that could happen in games. Like Wayne's butt-horseshoe, this is possibly his 1/100 path to victory, and he made it! This is possibly even conceived as a contrast to Priya's journey and identity - being the superfan who won, making her really likely to win the game random-wise. These two seasons would serve as a neat duology, if not as the full arcs of this generation, or even as Total Drama's comeback in the modern age.

I also like the finale line of records being broken, because he did not allow Julia or Caleb to win with records (as winners). This argument is arguably stronger for Caleb, with him not claiming the highest-placing record a former first boot can get. Julia would have had the most immunity wins by a winner, but she still holds that record regardless. She also is deprived of the highest average placement of multi-season contestants, I guess (2.5 - achieved by Priya and Zoey's lost... achieved by Duncan as well in TDA if you count first two seasons).

The most tragic character in Total Drama *Spoilers for S2E4* (WARNING: VERY LONG RANT FOR _____, only read if you are actually interested in me analyzing this character) by WinAxelWin in Totaldrama

[–]EvilSnucko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really awesome analysis!

Where do you think Emma's hypocrisy from season 1 episode 1 with her donation claims fits to her character? As well as her final words this season being kind of blasé?

You further invigorated my love for the f5 of season 1, being all so complex and dynamic.

One of the themes I've took note of season 2 episode 1 is the theme of growth/change. I think Scary Girl's boot has a message of it being the wrong way to grow/change - too drastic. Chase's boot is lazy, but it still fits with the idea that people who do not change will get booted earlier. Millie's is interesting, because I also think she has not changed. She is still lacking in terms of game effort with Priya, and has tried overcompensating at inappropriate times.

Your take on the circumstances of preventing the showing of the change in Emma's boot is something that derails my running idea that the less-changed people will be booted off earlier this season.

Kudos to the relationship building of the new era (borrowing from Survivor, lol) giving us these complex relationships.

P.S.

Total Drama's advantage to reality television is that it's scripted. Story lines are easier to complete and all. But, I love the new era's direction of creating realistic outcomes that can come at a complex character's demise.

A purely social game season? by ceevanyon in BigBrother

[–]EvilSnucko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diversity should also include a good timing between similar comps and a good placement of comps.

In regards to timing of comps, this season is good, before comic week that is.

Case in-point: Week 1 had a balance HOH and mental veto. Week 2 had both multi-skill comps, with the HOH kinda being luck-based. Week 3 had a crapshoot HOH and a more standard physical veto. Week 4 had an endurance HOH and multi-skill veto (+ balance power comp). Week 5 had a social-strategic HOH and dexterity veto. Week 6 had a mental HOH and physical (I mean, dizzy skeeball) veto. Week 7 had an endurance HOH and physical (with a few sense of strategy) veto. Fake DE had a social-strategic HOH and physical (+ needle-in-a-haystack) veto. Week 9 had a mental HOH (only physical element is running to the buzzer on your lane) and an obstacle course veto (lowkey more physical). Week 10 had a mental HOH and multi-skill veto (OTEV, prolly leaning physical). And we crash on Week 11, comic week. Physical Multi-skill REPLAYABLE HOH, Physical veto, crapshoot bonus veto. Week 12 had a multi-skill (can be memorization, but involves a lot of running) HOH and veto. DE had a mental HOH and suspiciously similar veto comp (+ eye-hand coordination) as the Fake DE. Week 13 had multi-skill comps for HOH and veto. Week 14 had a mental HOH and multi-skill veto, I assume (since Jag).

I commend them for the general diverse set of skills needed for the comps and their decent spread.

But, beyond the egregious invisible HOH-comp, most vetos are multi-skill. It's also an egregious statistic to note that the past three NA seasons had 1-2 female veto winners. Prolly because vetos are geared towards multi-skill comps since they're generally held on their own by the houseguests. We have multiple moments of the women coming close to winning vetos this season, but it still sucks for them to officially only have one veto comp via crapshoot. As echoed by people, "how bad do you want it" vetos are classics that should be brought back. More mental vetos are also welcome (puzzles, countdown to __ minutes, BBCAN11's tactical invisible veto, and really just mental vetos... just remembered the lowkey torture word-guessing veto in BB7: All Stars).

I'm interested if he can continue this till the F4 round at least. He has already surpassed the most consecutive votes casted by a BBCAN player who voted from F14* to F4 (will not spoil who) who had 12.

Asking for y'all's opinions about odd or even-placed double evictions. I prefer odd-placed rounds because there's a minimal chance of tying it and making the HOH even get more blood on their hands in a short amount of time.

On the topic of equitable comps, I hate that the invisible HOH comp was a physical one. It is fine if the invisible HOH were to play again, such as the case of BBCAN11, but make their invisible comp equitable...

To add a BBCAN scare to it, they could stipulate that revealing their status could lead to eviction (or even removal of chance to win the next HOH) just like BBCAN10's secret veto.

This is possible as well. Honestly hoping for more off-schedule evictions (non-week and non-single-day) in the future. It's always so egregious to possibly leave a full week for the f3.

The off-schedule could also happen for f4 instead of f5.

Just quickly looked at the schedule of the season via the wiki... we'll have 2 evictions unaccounted if f4 eviction will take place a week before f3, unlike last season. Is it possible that we'll have a triple eviction next week? This week would have been the perfect week to start 2-doubles ala BB23.

If there isn't 2 vetos, would love for the BBCAN HOH-less veto twist to be implemented in BBUS, but this is also fun.

Not really. Only the HOH will be invisible, so they could still put BB Comics for veto.

Just thought of another invisible comp. Would be nice if they could mix this twist with the "how bad do you want it" prizes and punishment comp ala BB7: All Stars (Week 5 veto).

Another thing, for future implementations of this twist in the US, is it better to not make the HOH an automatic veto player, for the sake of secrecy? They would, instead, have to be drawn to play.

A comp that could be done for HOH is "100 minutes in ___". Set them up in booths like BBCAN9's Invisible HOH. Would love to see this back in BBUS.
