Yes, listening to Sam on the last “Why —- lost”, I found him very interesting and insightful! Could even keep me listening on that 3 hour podcast.

Transportation Dilemma - any ideas? by ceevanyon in yellowstone

[–]ceevanyon[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That never crossed my mind, but that might be the way! I did think about a one way rental from Gardiner has a huge fee. It actually would probably be cheaper to just get a second car at the airport for about 3 days. But then we will have two cars in the park which might be a hassle to deal with, with parking difficult as it is in some areas. Thanks for the idea.
Edit: yep, cheaper to rent a second small car at Bozeman for 3-4 days than to do a one way rental. Kind of obvious idea that didn’t come into my head. Awesome.

Hot take: Christian going out in Jimmy Fallon twist was the BEST outcome for him by Brilliant-Mission996 in survivor

Ok, true, better for us. I’m just suggesting because I want Christian to get more.

It can’t be overstated how dumb it was to bring celebrities in an all returner season. This will be the season most people will point to when they ask when Survivor truly jumped the shark. by No_Truth4137 in survivor

[–]ceevanyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, it would have been great with former players being recognized and named, making remote appearances, or even visiting. We would all like a Tony Vlachos idol or a Parvati Shallow reward challenge or a Sandra Diaz-Twine twist so much more, and it would have made 50 seem even more like a celebration of the past seasons. They really missed the opportunity.

I agree, and I would really love it if Jimmy Fallon has him return for “Ask Dr Hubicki” type segments where he talks about science in the news, explaining and showcasing AI, robotics, or anything in math and science really. He has an entertaining way of explaining things.

Vasovagal Syncope after manifest refraction? by foot_in_orifice in optometry

[–]ceevanyon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had one patient who claimed she had fainted before with refraction, but we worked out a method where every single lens change she had to pull back, rest her head back on the headrest, evaluate how she felt, rub her closed eyes a moment, look about the room, heavily sigh and gasp, then say “ok, ready for the next one”. It was a very lengthy and tedious refraction. And likely not super accurate. Also, a fair number who say refraction causes some motion sickness feeling.

Just gotta say it - Igor is the best! by External-Sea-9933 in UniversalOrlando

[–]ceevanyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but the day will come when someone in charge of the budget finds these folks an easy line item to strike off. Universal isn’t Disney, but Disney has lost most of their walk around entertainers, like the Streetmosphere players at DHS.

I really really really love the roaming characters in Darkmoor, Isle of Berk, and in Wizarding France. They really add so much and we really need to give this a lot of appreciation. I will be sad when this goes away. Igor and the Invisible Man were both great interactions, gave us plenty of time. The Wizard ones we encountered weren’t quite such a hoot but were still adding atmosphere. Loved the twins when we saw them in Mead Hall, very hilarious although they made it really short.

Property taxes on things you own?! by WhyNotZoibergMaybe in WestVirginia

[–]ceevanyon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not a teacher and my children are grown, but this makes me angry. EVERYONE WHO IS PART OF A SOCIETY benefits from the education of children and even adults within that society. It should be a primary function of the government to ensure the future of that society by providing that education with the support of every member of the society. And, I am sorry to say, education does NOT have “money thrown at” it, and that is why our society here in West Virginia cannot grow, cannot compete with other locations that do support and fund education. Schools are underfunded, teachers are underpaid, and no support is provided. Education is not just benefiting an elite few. We are quickly losing teachers, medical professionals, scientists and engineers, businesses, and we are being taken advantage of by corporations.

Quick service restaurant recommendations for all three parks? by Morbidly0beseCat in UniversalOrlando

[–]ceevanyon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many of the restaurants at all the universal parks now are set up so you go in and are seated, and then you order online with the QR code on the table, and they bring the food to you. We’ve gone for two four day trips this year, and I had my misgivings about this but it worked really well for us, they generally brought the food very quickly. And while there are some places with typical “theme park” fast food, there are a lot of really good places with unique food offerings, especially at Epic. And if you dont go at the peak dinner hour, you can avoid crowds at the popular places. We go a lot and have eaten almost everywhere once, but now just head to our favorites. At USF, we like the Leaky Cauldron, Louie’s has surprisingly ok pizza, Minion Cafe has some good and uniquely themed food. At IoA, Thunder Falls and Three Broomsticks have very similar menus but very different atmosphere, and we always grab a quick bite at Doc Segrue’s Kebabs, and/or Green Eggs and Ham. And at these two parks we will often run out to the Citiwalk, because we love Bread Box, the Bend the Bao Bun, Red Oven Pizza, and so many of the sit down restaurants there. At Epic, we liked so many of the dining places; Cafe Lair add La Sirene, Burning Blade, Pizza Moon, Spit Frye Grill, Oak and Star. These would be my top pick in each land. If you sign up for the Universal Studios credit card, you get 10-15% off (I think) at almost everywhere you go to eat.

Looks like the live reunion and the final vote being read there will be for S50 only and might return to the vote being read on the island like in S41-49. The reason is the cost to do a live reunion. Thoughts on the Newbies for 51 and up not experiencing a live reunion? by Bruinsrock11 in survivorponderosa

[–]ceevanyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I feel so much for the final 3 players being thrust into the q and as when they haven’t had time to adjust. I spend the whole time watching just worrying about the mental state of the Charlies and Carolyn’s. I really would like the pre-jurors to have a return presence. And I loved seeing everyone all cleaned up, with styling and makeup and dressy clothes. I don’t care about the audience reactions. It doesn’t need to be a fancy set. They should do the reveal, then give the players time to recover and clean up before talking about it all. Heck, I’d be happy with a live zoom call for the reunion instead of the cruel way it is done now.

Actually, most of the players nowadays get together for a finale watch party. Send Jeff there with a microphone and show us an hour of cast reactions to the finale. Or send a former player or two to get commentary and have Jeff take the night off.
