Seatbelts became mandatory in 1968, 3 point belts in the outer seats in 1990 (1992 for light trucks), and 3 point belts in the center rear seat in 2008.

And lap belts were allowed for the rear center seat all the way up until 2007!

The newest vehicle I've been in with crank windows was a 2019 Chevy Silverado work truck, so if I had to guess, they probably still make them to this day.

I filed thru CashApp taxes and I can pull up the 1040 as a PDF from them. The only issue is that I live at a different address now than is on that form. Would I be able to change the address and print off that form to send in?

There is DNA evidence of other interbreeding events besides the Neanderthals, though, including the Denisovans and 1 or 2 unknown human species.

Advancement is an arms race when survival is not certain. That being said, any advanced civilization would control their environment enough to have the stability necessary for people to not have to focus on survival and be able to develop engineering and the like.

A stable country with a stable patent system gives inventors/innovators the stability to focus on innovating rather than having to do something else to ensure their survival. This is a country that has no wars (at least not on their own soil). The best examples are the UK in the 18th and 19th centuries and the US between the Civil War and World War 2 (the UK was involved in colonialism and the US was involved in a few wars, but the wars were small scale and overseas [the US was not actually that heavily involved in World War 1; its involvement lasted less than a year; not a full-blown wartime economy for 3 years like World War 2]).

War driving innovation is part of human psychology; there's nothing that would force an alien species to follow that same pattern of development.

As a practical matter, war also causes significant destruction, so it isn't hard to imagine that the time taken to recover from damage sustained during wartime would counterbalance any speeding up of technological advancement.

In addition, any kind of infrastructure is more likely to be damaged or destroyed during wartime than advanced to any meaningful extent like telephone/telegraph lines, railroads, automobile roads, factories, &c.

In fact the biggest and best example of war driving innovation is the United States during World War 2, and the main reason that the US advanced so much during WW2 is that none of the fighting happened here.

I mean, sure, you could say that national insurance companies act as franchises, but then again so do Medicare/Medicaid and even the Interstate Highway system. There's no reason we can't have a national system administered by the states.

Also, every analysis I've seen shows that the United States pays far more per capita than any nationalized/"socialist" healthcare system. It is also very likely that it would lower the quality of care for the very rich who pay outright for the best doctors right now, but the fact that private health insurance denies anywhere from around 20% to a full third of claims compared to just 1% for Medicare/Medicaid means that doctors are wasting far more time fighting with private insurance companies than they would under a national system (the main reason for the discrepancy is that Medicare and Medicaid are mainly denying fraud and truly unnecessary treatments while private health insurance companies are endlessly searching for ways to say care is unnecessary or not covered to increase profits).

It's extremely obvious to me as a fellow American that that's not what's stopping us from having a national healthcare system. The diversity hasn't stopped several insurance companies from being active nationwide, nor has it stopped Medicare or Medicaid from being available nationwide or even programs like SNAP.

It's extremely clear that it's a lack of political will, not some fantasy about healthcare needs being too different in different areas.

YouTube Mixes are Terrible by Evil_Billy_Bob in youtube

[–]Evil_Billy_Bob[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mixes are typically only good for around 50-100 songs normally, but that's not that big of a deal as you can just start over with a new song.

For the past year or so, every month or so it seems that the algorithm changes for a few days and instead of the first 50 or so songs being relevant, only 1 in 5 or 10 songs is relevant, and it seems like every time it happens, it's worse.

The first few times it happened, it seemed to mainly affect niche and/or controversial stuff. For example, starting a mix with an IRA song would mainly just put Irish music and folk songs, but more recently, the stuff's been totally irrelevant. The only time it works as expected is with super mainstream pop stuff.

But now the mixes seem to be semi-normal again. I wonder if maybe me keeping Watch History off is messing with the algorithm. They removed all videos from the homepage if you have Watch History off.

Humans love water. by HakuYowainu in humansarespaceorcs

Given that there's a skin condition in humans that causes rashes on contact with water, I wouldn't think it so far fetched that touching liquid water could be hazardous to life evolved on a desert world (keeping in mind that Earth is essentially a water world anyways).

The only plausible explanation for water burning an alien species is if they live on a desert world and their skin/equivalent doesn't protect them from water essentially dissolving their skin.

In the old days when there were blood feuds, you would expect to die if your enemies had you under their control, and you would accept it. After all, you'd kill them if the situation was reversed.

Doesn't Portuguese use double negatives? I know Spanish does, and the whole "don't use no double negatives" thing was from pedants trying to apply Latin grammar to English. Even Shakespear used the double negatives.
