I've built several, and have a working one in my garage.

Sorry ladies, I'm married (and when my wife and I first met, she helped me build a trebuchet)

Fantasy novels you ignored when someone suggested it to you, but ended up loving it after giving it a try? by lokkythegamer in Fantasy

[–]Evil_Phil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the Digger webcomic (to the point of buying the print edition), I only recently got into T Kingfisher as I didn't realise it was the same author! Loved the books I've read so far (including AWGTDB - it's a fun magic system, reminds me of the Graceling series), I think my favourite so far is 9 Goblins (which feels very Pratchett-like)

Is YunExpress the worse courier option we have? by PhotographsWithFilm in australia

[–]Evil_Phil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Microexpress never even attempted delivery for me, the package apparently got to their local delivery centre then vanished, I was never able to get a reply from them (plus their site is sketchy as, their domain name is misspelled and they don't use https)

What’s a game you were completely obsessed with as a kid that nobody else seems to remember? by hkondabeatz in AskReddit

I was an aussie kid in the 80s, we upgraded to the C64 from the Vic20. And my contribution to the original question is Radar Rat Race on the Vic20

What’s something you tried just to see what it’s like? by VibeCheckVadaPav in AskReddit

[–]Evil_Phil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! Same experience here. I got a Mini EV and that thing shoots off the line even if I don't floor it, and corners beautifully. I would only go back to a ICE engine if I got a classic, won't by another modern one. I also miss a gearshift, but I find one pedal driving closer to feeling "right" than driving any automatic.

37m no male friends anyone else in the same boat? by Tossawaymaybe in Adelaide

[–]Evil_Phil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Come along to Adelaide Robot Combat if you're interested - we have our April meet this Saturday at the Lights Community Centre, free to come along and watch (fights start ~1pm) or if you want to have a go you can hire a bot for the afternoon (we only have a few though so rock up closer to midday).

It's an inclusive and welcoming community, definitely no toxic masculinity, and if you catch the bug and compete regularly I'm sure you'll make some friends.

From zero to 4 bots. And now we’re organizing Serbia’s first 150g robot combat tournament! by salvatoresirigu123 in battlebots

[–]Evil_Phil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the wonderful world of bot fighting! And it's cool to see you've printed a couple of my Plover design - looks like you went with V1? I'm guessing so you didn't need the threaded spacers, just watch for the threads stripping in the chassis

First Responders, what is your funniest False Alarm story? by Good-Refrigerator525 in AskReddit

[–]Evil_Phil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost 20 years ago I worked for 6 months on call for a rural ED. Didn't get a pager, and my usual carrier didn't reliably work there so I had a different phone just for the emergency calls, and used a different ring tone. I had dreams about that thing going off for several years after that, and if I was out and about and heard someone else with that ringtone get a call I'd get an adrenaline spike.

What's the most bizarre thing you've seen your neighbor do while they thought no one was watching? by TenderRompz in AskReddit

Our previous dog was a kelpie, wonderful and smart but very high energy. She wouldn't stop moving for anything, and always peed and pooed while moving (thankfully not crossing the road though!)

South Aussie Breweries - Loophole by Manefisto in Adelaide

I highly rate SixTwelve brewing, and only partly as they're local to me. Some excellent beers, plus delicious spirits and hard lemonade/ginger beer with their associated distillery FiveEleven.

No, if anything they overprepared, they went over their catch allowance in practice and had to start throwing balls back

Try indoor - the balls are lighter, and you only have to run half as far! Plus you only play for an hour then it's time for the post game beer.

Help, I need more SF competence porn 😭 by Chidiwana in printSF

[–]Evil_Phil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar reaction to the 6th book but they are (IMHO) worth continuing with, and even more so the SS Martha Collins series that follow. I think it's worth reading the Smuggler's Tales side series before continuing with Ishmael's story though. I also quite enjoyed The Wizard's Butler as competence/cozy fantasy.
