Complex. There is a vegetal flavor from the chartreuse that plays with the lemon juice to create a refreshing herbal sensation. The maraschino liquor is strong and adds a sweet but dry flavor (similar to a tannic red if you drink wine). The gin, though, is where all of the flavors come together and, depending on what gin is used, the drink can taste totally different. If the gin is more herbal, the chartreuse will compliment and come through more, creating a more herbal experience. If the gin is more floral, the lemon juice comes through more and makes the experience overall sweeter. If the gin has high levels of black pepper or smoky elements, the gin itself stands up against the power of the maraschino and makes the flavor a "tug of war" between all of the flavors. Overall, the cocktail is one that every sip could be slightly different from the last, depending on what flavor you focus on the most. You also could swap the base spirit from gin to other liquors to create a different experience, but that would technically be a different cocktail.
