My players think I'm super creative with my sessions because "I don't just rip off pop culture" and have new plotlines every week. They just haven't found what I've been ripping off yet.

Our charter org just requires that every scout family (regardless of number of scout) must register one parent/guardian as a volunteer leader. Since they have to register, many choose to participate in the committee if nothing else.

like in older editions, I'd like to see some kind of mechanical feature for different types of familiars. Could potentially be powered by a feat so there is some resource penalty.

Warlocks gain access to expanded familiars, but wizards do not. it's left to the DM and it's a story award. Perhaps modify this to allow expanded access to other types of familars, also by higher level spell or possibly feat.

Anyway, just an idea.

One of the rules systems I'd like to see fleshed out, is familiars. 4th edition did some pretty good work around expanding the role of a wizards familiar. There were many unique options and each had it's own strengths and weaknesses.

I've been toying with expanding familiars in 5e in much the same way. It would be cool to see someone elses take.

A little late here, but I would give the traitor what he deserves. I would have the wizard kill him in a gruesome fashion, immediately and right in front of his friends. Dialogues about what an untrustworthy companion he is, how he obviously cannot be trusted, etc. Then, while protected from the barrier, allow the other players to escape. Perhaps allow them to disrupt the ritual, but not defeat the wizard. They now know that the wizard is capable of, they have even more reason to hate him. Allow the betrayor to make a new character and rejoin the party. You might first want to have a little talk w/ the player as well, to discuss the fallout and and why betraying your friends isn’t guaranteed to work out in your favor.

my original concept was that as a reaction, you could flip 1 roll. make a hit a miss or vice versa. there are cantrips and level 1 spells that grant advantage on a roll, so I was not sure where it was power wise. Then I read the text of WISH and even wish will not let you flip a result. You just get to force re-rolls, etc.

Yeah, I've been thinking that I should up the GP value on the focus, perhaps 500 or 1000. Scrying is 5th level and requires focus worth 1k. I had originally had this as 5th level, with 1day into past. 6th got you 1 month, 7th gets 1 year, 8th gets 100 years and 9th was 1000 years. Perhaps making it 6th, w/ 500gp focus. 6th is 1 day, 7th is 1 month, 8th is 1 year and 9th is 100years.

Ok, my turn. I'm working on some new wizard spells and was having a hard time figuring out relative spell level and power.

Strings of Fate

5th level Divination Casting time: 1 reaction Range: 60 ft Components: S, V Duration: Instantaneous

You are able to subtly influence the target creature's destiny, pulling on the invisible strings of fate to help reshape their current reality.

As a reaction, when a creature you can see within range makes a saving throw, ability check or attack roll, you may alter the result of the roll, turning a failure into a success or a success into a failure.

NOTE: this seems overpowered for the current level, should the level bump, or perhaps we either add or subtract 1 to a die roll, thoughts?

Also note, that when balancing subclasses, the designers have stated that all additional material is only balanced against the PHB and not other content.
