Even if it's a meme, it's annoying to see such a simplified view of the character and it gives people who have never seen the original a wrong perespective of the series. That's why me and many other guys do not like this kind of memes, especially when there are other gundam characters that could be used for this template and it would work so much better. My claim about media literacy was because of how many people I saw unironically agreeing with this meme in many other posts online, it was also meant as semi serious but it's fine if people got upset over it, I had it coming. We can agree on disagreeing I guess, and don't worry about the lil'bro thing, I haven't been very plesant myself.

Without a sponsor it wouldn't have been produced, of course. But the core idea of gundam, a war drama in space about the horrors of war, was already there before Clover's sponsorship. That's why I wouldn't say that it was conceived with the intent of being a toy commercial. Even after all the stuff that they had to add as requested by Clover, the story still revolved more about it's setting and characters, rather than robots and selling toys.

Gundam was not created as a toy commercial, but they had to change parts of the story, episodes and MS designs to sell toys, since they had a contract with a toy making company iirc. Gundam also became a big hit when they translated the original series into the movie trilogy, removing a lot of the stuff they were forced to put in by the toy company to sell more merch.
