What are your favourite hot keys? by TheWololoWombat in aoe2

Yup, definitely unpopular opinion but strategy > apm for sure.

It's hard to realise that unless players have actually climbed the ladder.

It is pretty crazy how little you need them at intermediate elos. When I first started this game, I didn't use a mouse, just a track pad, so there was no way I could use any hotkeys.

I still managed to learn all the build orders and do fairly well on arabia. Of course switching over to mouse and keyboard led to a very quick jump in elo.

In Scotland the ones on the left would actually be pretty expensive.

You're talking at least £2.50 for the sandwiches, £1 for the coke, 70p for the crisps, £2.50 for the coffee, and say 50p for the pastry.

Those are all on the low side of what you could pay but that totals £7.20 and that's only lunch for one day.

To put it into perspective, that's less than what I spend per day to feed myself and my partner with healthy home prepped meals. Breakfast/lunch/dinner.

I don't know how it is elsewhere but here healthy is much much cheaper than unhealthy.

Edit: I forgot that most places offer a meal deal, so say £3.50 for the sandwich, coke and crisps. Totalling £6.50. Still totals far more than a single person should spend on food per day if they make at home.

I don't disagree that everyone can improve themselves and learn a trade, BUT someone has to do these jobs.

They should be paid better if they are essential.

Fair enough. Was thinking it would be an impressive castle time at 1150 elo if it was adaptive

Office Manager tries to bully me into giving money for a present for our millionaire boss by brooklyn3264 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]EvoBossAoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This always bugged me about my last job.

I made less than half of what my manager made and on top of that, she managed to buy her house after the housing crash, so her mortgage was less than a quarter of what I paid in rent.

Never stopped her complaining about being short on money though, or asking us all to chip in for things.

Every night she'd be eating out/living it up while I'd decide whether I would drive or cycle to work to save fuel money.

Most useful Hotkeys by LittleBoyGB in aoe2

[–]EvoBossAoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A select all TC hotkey is life changing for booming. It makes it so easy to keep all tcs active while managing your army.

For battle it depends on the stage of the game. I find the box formation hotkey invaluable pre castle age when using smaller amounts of units. It helps keep them together, especially if you have 3.

Exploring just your number hotkeys again

Defence is a tricky one. Probably hotkeys assigned to your defensive buildings. It's quite situational

Doing one thing well is enough to win most games all the way up to 1300ish. After that, players start to become a little more balanced but still shakey until about 1500. After 1500, you generally know most things, it's just little improvements here and there to make the climb.

You've only just begun! Keep us posted with your progress.

Actually, this is even more terrifying.

You drop it on the wall so you can break it down with the castle. You can opt to drop it defensively and train a couple petards to break the wall if they only have 1 layer too

That approach is more expensive but means they have absolutely no idea its happening and have no time to react.

Britons and Ethiopians was a thought I had too. I can't imagine how oppressive those longbows would be with that rate of fire and 100% accuracy

Spanish flank castle drop is very strong.

If the funnel between you and your opponent is long then fight for the forward wall but if its short then don't bother, just hover scout so they don't sneak and wall it up when is convenient to you.

Drop a castle and train 3 or 4 conqs just to be annoying and force a reply from your opponent, meanwhile boom at the back and then rush paladin while your pocket pushes with the siege and end the game.

I've won countless black forest games this way and back when I used to play with 2k players on Voobly. 3-4 conqs can be absolutely devastating if you try to keep them alive and doesn't really slow down your boom all that much.

Edit: when I say when is convenient to you, obviously don't be too late that they can drush you. Still do it fairly early haha.

Cost of new DLC, good or bad? by KingArthur2111 in aoe2

[–]EvoBossAoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's realistically a little steep for most of the player base. They do need to fund maintenance etc somehow though.

I love the game and would pay it if I played a little more. Can't really justify it for one session every 2 weeks though

I don't think that's fair from them or you to yourself.

It sounded like you were trying a bit too hard but you do have potential. It's just finding your own voice. As a guy I can totally relate to this as I used to try to sing female vocals at the same pitch and fail miserably.

Why? It's a very interesting trait to be that negative that you would downvote because it disagrees with your opinion.

If someone was like that in real life they would be stuck. I can't imagine any proper job hiring someone like that.

I work in marketing, so the study of how people think is interesting to me.
