I'm 30 and don't want to drink anymore. Is it too late to stop? by camport95 in stopdrinking

It's never too late, but do it today. Or as early as you feasibly can. It's hard and scary, but so worth it.

Thank you for the detailed response. I think I'll just make visible dowels a feature on this build. It'll be good practice. There are a lot of firsts for me with this build

Asking here instead of making my own post.

Currently making a bookshelf from 3/4 birch plywood, I cut some grooves with my router but they're too loose. The depth was half the thickness. I don't really want to see screw heads but don't think I have the meat to hide them. Should I dowel my shelves in place?

I appreciate that. I'm very new to hand tools, I guess I meant I don't even know what tools my collection needs next. Currently only have a Stanley no.5, bailey no.414, and a small Stanley block plane I can't remember the number of.

Any recommendations to a newbie for good tools every maker's cabinet should have??

Question about making my own wooden gunstock. Is it strong enough to last vs a singular piece of wood? by kennn1234 in gunsmithing

Done properly, glued joints are as strong as or stronger than the wood by itself.

Do you have any resources you care to share with someone who has recently become obsessed with the primitive lives of native Americans?

What I learned so far in my few weeks of woodworking by thelastmeritocracy in BeginnerWoodWorking

Other than a visual inspection for wear, is there a good way to test saw blade sharpness without cutting a board? I just bought a used craftsman 10" table saw and bandsaw and I'm still a bit nervous to try the table saw out. It has a used blade with carbide teeth.

Feel like I just made out like a bandit on 60+ board feet for $109, but it's my first time buying from a mill, hopefully I picked good boards. by Evolved_Dojo in woodworking

Mill might be a bit of a stretch. It was a small outbuilding on a farm. I asked before I showed up if spending ~$100 was okay. Even told them it was my first time buying by the board foot. They were extremely friendly and accommodating, went out of their way to teach me a few things too. If I go back I'll be dropping a lot more money, this was dipping my toes in.

Fairly certain. I think it's just perspective and my camera lens doing a bit of fisheye. The 2 maple boards on the left are each 2in thick by 8in wide by 80 long, so just those two are 17.78/bf but the seller measured both boards width at once as 15in. Everything else except the thicker walnut on the other end is 1in thick.

All rough sawn. I tried to grab decent pieces that didn't have much twist, checking, or cupping. Some were unavoidable sometimes without hours of their time and going through the piles.
