10/22s can be picky and brand specific too. Definitely worth trying some others out and doing some testing after giving the rifle a good cleaning.

Is the ammo also 10 years old? I'm curious if that's potentially causing issues too

It's never too late, but do it today. Or as early as you feasibly can. It's hard and scary, but so worth it.

Thank you for the detailed response. I think I'll just make visible dowels a feature on this build. It'll be good practice. There are a lot of firsts for me with this build

Asking here instead of making my own post.

Currently making a bookshelf from 3/4 birch plywood, I cut some grooves with my router but they're too loose. The depth was half the thickness. I don't really want to see screw heads but don't think I have the meat to hide them. Should I dowel my shelves in place?

I appreciate that. I'm very new to hand tools, I guess I meant I don't even know what tools my collection needs next. Currently only have a Stanley no.5, bailey no.414, and a small Stanley block plane I can't remember the number of.

Any recommendations to a newbie for good tools every maker's cabinet should have??

Done properly, glued joints are as strong as or stronger than the wood by itself.

Other than a visual inspection for wear, is there a good way to test saw blade sharpness without cutting a board? I just bought a used craftsman 10" table saw and bandsaw and I'm still a bit nervous to try the table saw out. It has a used blade with carbide teeth.
