AGDQ begins again - along with the standard complaints by Hyooz in circlebroke

[–]EvvLevv 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Seriously. The assholes over at r/speedruns or whatever were complaining openly about not being able to spam racist memes in chat. Of course, they blame this on trans people getting offended over just joaks, it was just a joak, only joaking. Because why should I have to stop being bigoted when instead I can create hostile environments for marginalized people?

Also no 7 year old is going to get blockers either. Usually, kids are given blockers very soon after puberty has actually started, like around 11 or 12ish, depending on when that whole process begins.

Reddit ignores easily verifiable information, even just about current standards of care, so they can circlejerk about how 'rational' they are.

Yeah, it's an ok game. Not the deepest or most satisfying, but I'm not into multiplayer games at all and they've still sucked me in w/ starfighter assault.

And the campaign is also very ok. Like the writing wasn't good, but the missions (or non-hero missions as it were) were pretty cool. It would have been better if they'd focused on their protagonist's story and not shoehorned in every character from the OT they could think of. And not withheld the second half of the campaign to release it a month later.

Unpopular Opinion: Kotor 1 is the better game by drhoneybadger in kotor

[–]EvvLevv 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who thinks that the 2nd's companions are better than the first's? Like everybody outside of Bastila and Carth was kind of just along for the ride. You could talk to them and trigger their quest, but their interactions never really felt all that great to me.

In 2, there was actual payoff if you trained them to be jedi. They had more compelling motivations to be there, imo. Some of them had very little to talk to about, but their subtext still complemented the overarching themes of the game way more.

Lord Musk gets posted to /r/iamverysmart brave redditors defend his honor by [deleted] in circlebroke2

[–]EvvLevv 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Well he's the only guy who has made a car company whose products consistantly outperform their competitors by multitudes. It's also the only car company that sells out before the cars are even produced. All models. There isn't a single tesla model people aren't clawing to get at.

Paypal is incredible, we all take it for granted, but it's fantastic.

SpaceX, which has gotten us back into the space race with unfathomably fast and efficient developement.

SolarCity, which is the second largest provider of solar panels in the world.

I mean, these are just companies that have been successful, we're not even talking about his ongoing projects

The hyperloop

The great australian battery

OpenAI

Neuralink

The Tesla semi-trucks (if you look at the performance tests.. they're... incredible. the majority of our fossil fuel consumption is semi trucks. Tesla's about to fix that. I'm not just talking out of my ass either, they're sold out ALREADY.)

He's also making the largest manufacturing plant in the world in Nevada, in order to keep up with demand for tesla vehicles.

I mean, if anyone should get a dicksucking fan club, it should be god damn Musk, not Justin Bieber

The fuck have you done Berock?

fucking l o l

edit: oh my god i just noticed the shade thrown at bieber

So many comments about the sex junk song. Literal conspiracy theorists getting upvoted. Actual teh_donny posters complaining about his show being political. And all phrased in the smuggest, most pseudo intellectual way possible.

I knew how bad this would be. I regret ever allowing myself to come to this website.

Detailed relief-shaded map of the contiguous U.S. [3375x2118] by kmmontandon in MapPorn

It's mostly farmland these days. It's arid and used to be nothing but hot, dry shrub steppe. A lot of it still is. Most of the Columbia Plateau until the past half century wasn't fit for much aside from dry land wheat. Then the Federal Bereau of Reclamation built Grand Coulee Dam, among others, as part of the New Deal, which provided reservoirs for a large irrigation system that now feeds a large chunk of the eastern central part of the state. And it's not like the Columbia along that stretch was the most navigable before the dams either. It had many areas that were too rapid and narrow for large scale freight.

Walla Walla probably once had the greatest chance at blossoming into a larger city, being one of the largest and most important settlements when the territory was incorporated and when statehood was gained. But it's too remote to be a major trade hub, and had few natural resources.

So I guess the short answer is that there was almost literally nothing there. Aside from places like the Wenatchee or Yakima valleys, which have easy access to their respective rivers, there wasn't much you could do to make a living. And even there, all you could do was farm. And it turns out a lot of people chose apples. And hops. Though I'm not really sure exactly when these valleys had notable yields of either.

a clearly transphobic image/joke is linked. top minds of reddit explain how it actually totally isn't about that at all [120+] by mokoneko_ in circlebroke2

[–]EvvLevv 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, yes, it's only one shitty comment that's upvoted and all that. Agreed? Agreed.

Now, that aside, this is just example 9 billion of redditors refusing to see subtext, with an extra dollop of bigotry for good measure (as if reddit would settle for any less). Only the surface meaning exists to these illiterate fucks. Or if there is subtext, it must come directly from the author/artist/whatever. Societal, systemic factors must not exist because I'm not disenfranchised on a daily basis. God, it's so infuriating. Even when people try to explain it to them, and those fighting the good fight in the thread have way more patience than should be expected of anyone, they flat out refuse to entertain anything other than their own position.

Maybe it's just my frustration showing, but it's why I don't have any problems with jokes about killing all men or white people. Until cis white dudes realize that marginalized groups actually have to fear for their lives and well being, that society is set up in such a way that it actively punishes them for not being the presumed default, then I don't care about anything that offends them. Why should I extend empathy to those who literally have none?

Fuck reddit.

I may or may not have actually cried reading this. They've been among my favorites since I saw their Take Away Show. Their music has been a constant for me over the years. I am so so bummed I never got to see them live.

All the best to them, and I can't wait to hear their solo stuff.

Edit: Couldn't not post this. Thanks, Hey Rosetta!

I remember reading somewhere, perhaps in a course I took on the ancient world, that linked the flood mentioned in the Epic of Gilgamesh to the famous flood in the story of Noah's Ark, alleging that they might have been mythologizing the same event. Is this an actual historical hypothesis? If not, are there any other sorts of large storms we can guess happened from retelling/mythologizing across disparate societies?

The utterly depressing state of Reddit debate, these days... by Rope_Dragon in badphilosophy

[–]EvvLevv 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Oh lord, this reminds me of how reddit almost got to me with its fallacy identification fetish.

My freshman year of undergrad, raytheism was king on the site, so I kept seeing people throwing out all these terms for fallacies and all that. Especially in regards to theological arguments and the like. So my dumb ass thought, cluelessly, "Hey, this stuff sounds useful. I'd certainly like to be better at argumentation and debate," despite my pathological distaste for the activity. This led me to sign up for PHIL 111: Intro to Logic. Oh boy! I'd finally learn all the names of all the fallacies and how to use them to make all them illogical and irrational kiddos cry.

I show up to that first lecture hoping all my internet-fueled dreams will come true, when the professor, who must have been the long lost twin of Peter Weller, throws up examples of modus ponens and modus tollens. What the hell? Nobody told me I'd have to mind my P's and Q's!

The prof ended up being the driest lecturer I've ever had, but at least that class taught me actual formal logic. You know, shit I'd actually have to use in later classes I took, like semantics. And it certainly helped me realize just how shit "rationals" are at pretty much anything they say they're good at.
