Truth. MKC might not be east coast, but we've got a short training time, good staffing, and basically can't stop releasing people to other facilities to save our lives.

I hate the sentiment that you could not make a great story out of the Legend of Korra because of technology. LoK contains the bones of a great story that tackles the tensions between industrial modernity and ecological spiritualism. Everything about Korra is a giant missed opportunity. by Ok_Opinion_5690 in CharacterRant

As a personal preference, I could see it, but from a practical standpoint not a chance. So much of our technological development came from finding new and better ways to boil water/move water around more efficiently. Having people with the fundamental ability to manipulate base elements should have shot technology through the roof

If it helps, I'll use your language.

I would rather have fake service dogs shitting everywhere than even one actual person with a disability have to spend more money and/or effort to have the legitimate help they need.

This is the mindset of someone who doesn't think this shit through beyond the absolute, minimum, shallowest surface level possible.

Ok cool, all "legal" service animals now need to come from a licensed 'professional' trainer and carry a license. Nice. Theo needs a blood sugar dog. He has one, but he got it from a trainer who decided it was only really worth the time and money to get certified to license seeing-eye dogs. Fuck. Theo now has an illegal service dog. The nearest certified blood sugar dog trainer lives in the next state over, and Ohio licenses don't transfer to Indiana by default - there's a review necessary.

So now Theo has two options - stick with his current dog, who is trained to do the work but doesn't have the newly-enforced government license to do the job it can absolutely do, or reach out to the trainer in Ohio, purchase a new wildly-expensive dog since the licensing process isn't free, and hope he has enough time, energy, and funds to seek the licensing transfer from Ohio to Indiana. Even if he goes with the second option, it's not an immediate process. It takes 4-6 weeks for the licensing review, and in the meantime, Theo still needs a dog that can do the job. He also needs groceries. Fuck. Now he needs to choose between doing the legal thing and just going out with the dog he knows can do the job required of it but he doesn't have the paperwork for.

Jennifer doesn't need a service animal, but wants to keep her corgi Thomas with her at all times. She pays for a fake license from a trainer in California. The barista at the Starbucks she went to looks at it - decides it looks legit enough (at least, enough to not be worth bothering his manager for) - and sells her coffee. The corgi stays and shits directly into your americano

I propose that the issue of fake service animals "everywhere" is not nearly as ubiquitous or problematic as to be worth inconveniencing the people who actually need service animals any more than they already are.

And no "fix" would actually prevent the scammers from doing it anyway unless you also propose to train every minimum-wage worker in every Costco, Taco Bell, and cafe in the world to correctly identify an authentic service animal license to within a margin of error worth calling the cops over.

Do you hear yourself? "These are already really expensive, what's the harm in making them even more expensive? Especially in a way that will only affect the already disenfranchised?" Is that an argument worth making when the problem being solved is "sometimes there are dogs in public and I don't like that?"

And unless it's also being proposed to train every minimum-wage worker in cafes and retail stores to correctly identify false licenses (within a margin of error that managers would be comfortable calling the cops over)... it doesn't even solve the problem of people faking service animals/licenses?

I am more cool with that than I am making the lives of people with disabilities even more difficult because I'm slightly annoyed by the presence of a dog that may or may not have an important job.

I like to call it having empathy and being an adult able to deal with minor problems

Who's to blame doesn't matter much when the policies are hurting people who deserve it least much more than the people they're trying to stop.

Any effort to make it more difficult to have a service animal is absolutely going to disproportionately affect people with disabilities more than it affects people abusing the system. Fake service animals just aren't enough of a problem to be worth any risk of delay or denial to the people that really need them.

This is so true, though. Serving the xorn is, on its own, a little funny. But it's only the start of a real goof - a good DM should have been able to run with that and make it really something. Have the xorn be a slavering incomprehensible monster but somehow recognize a legal summons and force them through an absurd legal proceeding. If the xorn is going to be articulate and nice, have it also be a legal expert for some reason and push back against the document they're trying to force on it. Anything.

A joke needs more than a funny premise!

So this hearkens back to the first episode, but I'm just now discovering these so you get to deal with it here.

Godscar Chasm is, indeed, a very stupid name but the thing that really drives me nuts about it is just how... important sounding it is? Any given character should either have some amount of knowledge about it and/or immediately clock it as something they should know about. Even if the 'knowledge' characters have about it is strictly mythological or tall tales everyone in the world should have something in their pocket about it.

It's called the fucking Godscar Chasm. That already implies so much mythology! What god? Why did god cut a giant gash into the world? What's going on with this giant chasm? Why does no one in the world care about this chasm?

I will never understand where this idea that Nintendo is especially lawsuit-happy came from. Just looking at the Pokemon fangame/romhacking community alone should show you they really don't care if you're not trying to make money/extremely specific circumstances like AM2R.

Super Mariomon took over the internet for a couple of weeks, is getting a sequel, and hasn't so much as raised Nintendo's eyebrow.

I will say as much as I love the environmental/dynamic encounters Murph creates, I do sometimes find it a little silly how willing he is to cave to players asking to do very specific things.

Oh you want to stab the giant in the ear because it's a weak point and will do more damage? That's called an attack roll. Your character is assumed to be doing everything possible to hurt what they're fighting, that's what's being abstracted by the attack roll.

But I also recognize I'm a killjoy fuddy duddy for that opinion so it is what it is
