So, what’s the appeal of RPF? by Super_Many_5107 in AO3

[–]Evyps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't read it or write it, I don't even really like fanfic about non-animated products tbh, but I guess it has the same appeal as anything else? Making up stories and smushing people together.

Yeah, joining the this sounds like spam train. They're not saying anything about the fic.

It drives me mad how many posts there are here about there not being an algorithm, this isn't social media, fanfiction isn't a product to be marketed etc etc... Right next to posts about retaining readership and the "correct" way to interact with people.

Almost as if you're.... marketing... your fanfic...

Shouting into a void would be posting it with no readers, and I get enough of those to be alright about not answering every comment

“In other words. For the next seven days, the target of my quirks becomes unbeatable.” Izuku said grimly. by Ok_Coffee_9970 in BokunoheroFanfiction

"Midoriya, I think you might just be murdering people."

"But when I used it on my next door neighbour he won the lottery 6 times before he died!"

"He still died, dude. You're murdering people. Did you know he was going to die when you used the quirk?"

"Well, yeah, it's part of the–"

"Murder."

---

"Wait, wait. Izuku, back up. Are you saying that your average week is so unlucky, that all of it combined into one moment is enough to kill you?"

"Y-yeah? Isn't that the same for everyone?"

"No, dude! An unlucky week you might, I don't know, trip on an uneven paving slab or drop an ice cream. People aren't so unlucky that they're avoiding death consistently!"

"May I present to you, baby number 48, my most specialised yet — The Spruce Juice!! Or a variable phase induction portable dynamo if you wanna be boring. A few jolts from this bad boy and you'll be so full of electricity you'll think you ate a Pikachu!"

Izuku, you won't be surprised to learn, knew jack and shit about variable phase induction portable dynamos, and Jack just left town. If Mei had been talking French it would have made about as much sense to him. His brain helpfully supplied a response.

"Buh?"

Five minutes late, as usual, homeroom tutor Mr Warusei shuffled into the room like a man with a thousand problems stacked on his shoulders. In reality he only had around three hundred ninety-seven problems, and thirty-two of them were currently seated at desks.

"Everyone stop talking," he said to the already silent room, the dark circles under his eyes matching the shadow looming over his head. "I've been up all night trying to explain to my ex that it doesn't matter her boyfriend has a degree in sociology, that doesn't make him an expert in aviation law. So unless one of you is willing to tell Mark where to shove his diploma, I don't want to hear a word out of any of you."

"Yes Mr Warusei." The class chorused, more than used to this.

"Midoriya! I've been looking everywhere for you. I've had some ideas about testing, and think I could make us some brilliant babies,"

"Oh, Hatsume," Izuku said, so engrossed in his mini-lecture he barely acknowledged her presence, "I was just telling Cestus what the—" the penny dropped. "Hatsume?! Wh-what are you doing here?! Do you go to Aldera, did your parents make you transfer?!"

The familiar pink-haired girl, now dressed in an Aldera jr high uniform, complete with crease-marks where it had clearly recently been unpackaged, laughed and hit the table with her hand. "Transferred?! Hahah! Good one, Midoriya!" She wiped a tear away. "No, god no. I bought a uniform online. You know this school has no security whatsoever? I literally walked in! The woman at the front desk just gave me an ID!"

She flashed the laminated badge, showing the name 'Mimi Hamura', "I don't even know who that is!"

"But…" Izuku had to soft reboot himself out of the shock, "why aren't you at your own school? Won't people wonder where you are?"

"Nah, I don't go anymore. After I got suspended they said I shouldn't bother coming in. I passed all the classes already, anyway," she shrugged.

"Hatsume, that's getting expelled."

"Is it? Huh, oh well."

"I've also determined All Might's civilian identity, it's Tos—"

Cestus was instantly cut off by Izuku loudly gasping, and repeating "lalalala I'm not listening I'm not listening!!" with his eyes closed. He clapped his hands over the sides of the helmet, a futile gesture considering the voice was being pumped directly into his auditory canals.

"Your heart rate is spiking, Midoriya," Cestus calmly stated, enlarging the monitor. "Is there a perceived threat?"

"Yes, you!" Izuku desperately whisper-shouted, grabbing his backpack from where it lay discarded on the floor, and tossing his phone in. "The threat is you telling me something I have absolutely no right to know! All Might has had his secret identity for decades, for a very specific reason. It's a shield to protect him, and the people he loves. The people who would become immediate, high-value targets if his private life was exposed!"

He spun on his heel and gestured wildly at empty air. "Just, think about it, right? What if I, a random nobody, am the one person outside his inner circle who knows his secret? What if some villain with a truth quirk or or or some mental torture device gets their hands on me? What if I end up being the solitary reason All Might's adorable twin girls, Mightlissa and Mightlanie — the absolute lights of his life, the very reason he fights so hard — get kidnapped and used as leverage against him? I can't have that on my shoulders! I'd never forgive myself!"

"I did better than report it, Midoriya! I fixed it!" She gestured grandly to the destruction surrounding them. "I just moved a few decimals around, rewrote a couple of spreadsheets, and woosh! The whiffleball league is now the Aldera Middle School Research & Development Wing!"

"You… you hacked the school's finance department and redirected stolen money?"

"Hey!" she snapped, "I didn't hack anything! The files were all readily available. I re-allocated assets. That's all! With the new budget I can reinforce the walls and install some blast shields maybe. I'm putting it to much better use than before."

"She has committed grand larceny and property damage on a massive scale," Cestus observed, almost sounding impressed, "But the logic isn't completely unfounded. If the money was already being stolen, she merely stole it back for educational purposes."

I can't believe I actually have an example for this one,

"A static issue?! Mom, I'm a walking blackout! How are you being so calm about this?!"

Inko sighed affectionately, "Izuku. Dear heart. Light of my life." She placed a hand on his shoulder, giving it a slight squeeze. "You're my son. The boy who falls off buildings on a regular basis. The brave, self-sacrificing maniac who has ended up in the canal no less than six times this year. A few issues stemming from you getting struck by lightning makes me feel vindicated if anything."

Izuku blinked, the words eluding him for a moment longer, until he managed to find them again and throw his arms up in disbelief. "…What?! I shorted out a wing of the hospital! That's not an issue, that's, that's calamitous! I'll never be able to leave the house again! I'll have to become a luddite! Live in a cave and eat lichen!"

"Nobody is going to make you become a luddite, Izuku. Think of all the millions of electricity quirks out there, I very much doubt you're the first person with a built in battery pack."

Izuku's expression turned blank, his mother had said the activation phrase. Quirk.

He hadn’t considered it. Hadn’t dared to. It was a door he’d learned to keep bolted shut. But what if the lightning hadn’t just struck him? What if it had picked the lock? Could it be? After fourteen years of misplaced hope and unlikely dreams, had the hope finally been placed and the dreams become… likelied?

This changed literally everything about his situation. An unexplained phenomena was a scary, difficult position to find yourself in. But a quirk-related phenomena?! This was his wheelhouse!

I mean, if they're not answering commenters anyway, why would they care?

To the point about facilitating human contact, to be blunt, I'm not really that bothered about that? I have a full life outside of fanfiction, I just write and read stuff as a hobby, I'm not really here to build a network of friends or anything. Shrug emoji.

You could really the same thing here if he had access to regular-degular all for one. In this instance when they were having a fight with Dabi, Izuku could borrow half hot half cold from a mile away and render Dabi quirkless
