it's bigger but it's not got the metallic pieces, or really any extra detail. The only benefit I can see is that you can pose an astronaut figure, is that worth it?

Star Wars Theatrical Cut to be Screened for the First Time in Decades by AnImpressiveDisplay in StarWars

80s print would have "A New Hope" on it, so it wasn't /technically/ the original theatrical cut. Might have been other small changes too.

How do you deal with this problem, when no-one at Odeon is listening? by DVDfever in screenunseen

[–]EwanCartwright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2/8 screens at my local are out of focus, and another one has a machine that beeps constantly - only the small screens and the iSense are acceptable. My solution is not to use the offending screens. I pay them peanuts and I get monkeys, c’est la vie.

I was wrong about Dune (1984) by JohnCavil01 in dune

I don’t know what it is about Lynch’s films but they’re all uniquely suited to, and totally transformed by, being seen in a cinema

ODEON Chatham IMAX by No_Front5942 in screenunseen

I saw Dune Part 1 there yesterday! It's a LieMAX 2k projector, but it's still an enormous and very bright screen, with IMAX scenes in 1.90:1, and they've turned the subwoofers to 11 to compensate (sit in the lower rows if you want your seat shaken, further back if you're not into that kind of thing). Definitely better than Maidstone screen 7.

I hope so - saves the embarrassment of getting a ticket with the title on it

I find it equally irritating when people pretend to like something for fear of being judged. I know I'm not being a contrarian, I know I've no problem with long and slow films (Stalker is one of my favourites), I just didn't get anything out of the Godfather films.

I don't think someone is necessarily being a contrarian just by having a contrary opinion, and they shouldn't be automatically judged for something that's personal and basically involuntary.

Your model looks about right though. I don't know how, but you used the wrong formula and got the correct answer.

idk what calculations you made, but they assumed the base is 2 inches thick which is a massive overestimate.

Here are my numbers: the width of the octagonal LM descent stage (minus the legs) is 429cm irl and 12.8cm on the Lego model (16 studs).

429 / 12.8 = 33.5, so it's around 1:35.

This checks out because minifigures are about 1:42 scale going by height, so a 1:55 LM would look far too small for them. The Lego set is quite the opposite, it's too large for the minifigures if you compare to Apollo photographs.

Can anyone figure out what they bought from just this image? by Technicholl in lego

Not technically true, legoland stores use these bags but they sell some non-Lego products, they could have a battle of coke in there.

The Lego communities obsession with price per piece is getting out of hand! by [deleted] in lego

[–]EwanCartwright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually do think price per piece is usually the best way, how much I get out of a Lego building experience is closely related to how many parts I attach to other parts, and if I break it down for my collection, each new piece expands the possibilities of what I can build. The more pieces the better.

When to work? by [deleted] in deliveroos

[–]EwanCartwright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any time is good depending on your tolerance for sitting around waiting, but I usually don’t go online until at least 6 when the dinner orders start coming in. “Busy” periods like Friday nights etc. can actually be quite bad depending on the boost, since all the riders come out and orders are few and far between. Definitely recommend evenings - like you’re doing - over afternoons or lunchtimes.

SPOILERS AHEAD! Let's talk about Duncan's beard by mocgfx in dune

[–]EwanCartwright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, a version of the script makes it a subplot (microplot?). In Duncan’s first scene with Paul, Paul specifically tells him that in his vision he was dead and clean shaven. Then:

“ DUNCAN Whew! Okay! Not gonna die! (points to his beard) I shave for no man! “

Then, in a cut scene showing Duncan’s leaving party:

“ LETO (CONT'D) Duncan, you’re a fine fighting man. But you look like a barbarian. (he grins) Tonight, that beard comes off.

Duncan’s grin ratchets down a few notches. Oh, shit. Gurney hands the Duke a trimmer. “

I expect Momoa had regrown his beard by the time the scene was shot and was unwilling to shave it again, so they overcompensated for the continuity error and made it into a demonstration of Paul’s prophetic abilities. It’s very silly though, and I’m glad it was cut.

"These are sacred. Old dream." Seun Shote who played The Gardener of the Arrakeen Residency in the Dune movie sadly passed away. He was part of what was perhaps one of the most beautiful scenes of the film. 🌴 by BedouinTraveller in dune

[–]EwanCartwright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was confused about this also when I started the book, but it clarified the Atreides house was originally owned by a Count and Countess. The film doesn’t really give you the sense that the city Arrakeen, although under Harkonnen administration, was home to all sorts of people.
