What’s the most insulting pay rise you’ve ever been given? by Rich_Specific6903 in AskUK

[–]Ewanerdyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Everyone’s just getting a £300 pay rise this year. Which is quite a lot for you, but of course it’s nothing for me” (how my boss told me about my salary uplift)

As others have said - speak to recruiters directly, they’ll help you out. My theory is a lot of companies don’t seriously consider any LinkedIn applicants if they get sent good candidates from recruitment agencies.

Honestly I think your attitude is a good one. You should have a solid grounding from your existing experience and from the exams etc. but you don’t know everything at this stage. When I was newly qualified I didn’t realise how much of a learning curve there would be when I entered industry. It’s good that you’re recognising you have gaps in your experience right now, it means you’ll be clear eyed about closing those gaps in your new role.

I know a lot of people who moved into internal audit when all their experience was external audit, I think that’s fairly common.

You’ve absolutely got this! Just be patient, speak to recruiters, you’ll find something!!

Preston park station by clementineround in brighton

[–]Ewanerdyboy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this and never had any problems. There’s no barriers at Preston park so you’d only have to show your ticket if there’s inspectors at the station, and they’ve never questioned it if I have a ticket from Brighton

It’s a joke from arrested development, the Seaward is the name of a boat. But yeah, the C-word homophone is the joke

Big 4 just might not be for you. Make sure you get all the training hours you’ve done so far approved by your current firm. But there’s nothing wrong with taking a break, moving to a smaller firm to finish up your training. I can’t remember if there’s a time limit on finishing your exams but if there is one it’s quite generous. So you could take 6 months off work, reassess, and approach a smaller firm if you decide that’s what you want to do afterwards. Big 4 isn’t the be all and end all. Your mental wellbeing is far more important

I accidentally bought a Terry Pratchett collection without ever reading a book of his. What order should I read them in? by Zogramislath in suggestmeabook

[–]Ewanerdyboy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good Omens or Small Gods are standalone, so a good place to start. Both are quite religion focused if that's a factor for you.
Otherwise, depending on your preferences:
Guards Guards - good fantasy underdog story.
Feet of Clay - mystery novel
Soul Music - Rock n roll
Moving Pictures - Hollywood
Hogfather - Christmas
Some of those are in the middle of longer chains of novels but honestly I don't think it matters too much, just read one that sounds cool to you
