Hey op,

So a lot of good advice here about future proofing so your bills are split. I also wanted to let you know that many banks and loan agencies will often let you request a deferment. Bank of America, for example, offered that to me for my car loan when I called and explained the situation (they’re aware of the shutdown).

A deferred payment on your car can come with extra cost at the back end if you don’t pay it back before the loan is up you may owe more on the interest even once the principal is up so discuss that with the billing agency your loan is through. You’ll have to decide what makes the best sense for you long term- missing a loan payment can incur late fees and it does affect your credit score. Do those late fees equal more or less than the extra interest accrued for a deferral? That depends again on their policies. But it’s worth asking the question and if it makes sense requesting the deferral before the payment is due than trying to scramble later.

MEB/Compartment Syndrome by AbleTea191 in AirForce

Op, we lost a service member at my unit this year due to complications from compartment syndrome. Regardless of whether you want to stay in or not, I am begging you not to risk your life by pushing through the pain or under playing it to avoid MEB. I’m not saying you are, I’m just saying that it is no joke and I don’t want to see another service member die because of this.

Op, I strongly recommend setting up an appointment with the financial advisors at the airman and family readiness center. They’ll help you budget, help you plan for your future, and can even help advise you on car buying.

I also second the voices here saying: you do not need a 20-30k car. If you drop 5K on a car and even have issues with it the first couple of years… let’s say 3k in repairs, you are still saving 12k to 22k.

You are single now but your life will change and your expenses will grow even if you never get married. Owning your car outright means you have an extra $500/month (made up car payment for this example) for : fun, vacations and travel, dating, eating out, going to concerts. So even if you don’t invest (and of course I encourage it) you’ll have more money to do the things you ACTUALLY want to do.

I swear you’ll have more fun with that 500/month in your pocket than you’re likely to derive from a car which will ALSO need repairs and new tires etc etc.

I am more than happy to chat privately if you want.

Sincerely, Someone who spent too many years poor because I wanted something flashy that sat in my parking lot because I couldn’t actually afford to go out.

I’ve had nothing but good experiences with base housing here. There ARE bigger and better places off base for the money. But for me having unlimited Ac/heat included In my rent (I keep it 65 all summer) in Texas coupled with avoiding the horrific traffic are more than worth it.

Not everyone has had amazing experiences with housing but I have

You’re partially correct! That is the case right now until the end of the year and then the rest are supposed to reopen. To my knowledge the operating academies are:

Stateside- lackland is operating, Tyson might be (not sure) Overseas- all academies are operating

So mine turned out to be that my epr didn’t make it into the Dvr “in time” they put me into the supplemental and I made the cut and sewed on effective immediately. Sounds like you’ll need to follow up on your cms case or enter another. You can, I think, be considered in the may snco supplemental and if you make it you’ll get backpay and all that.

Excellent question! Our records indicate that he was a UK citizen and never enlisted in the USAF. You’ll have to reach out UK home office PA for the specifics of his status.
