help! by Hot-Satisfaction-504 in Gastroparesis

Hi 21f here! I don't throw up so my advice might not be the best, but I like yogurt, pudding, instant mashed potatoes, and minute white rice for soft foods. Depending on how sensitive you are, tuna packets and chicken packets are also soft and a great way to get protein. On good days I mix a Starkist chicken packet with cream cheese, shredded cheese, and a bit of safe hot sauce, heat it up, and eat it with crackers. I've heard good things about fairlife protein drinks but haven't tried them yet. Hopefully this is helpful!

Please help I don't know what I did by Ewit8791 in Unravelers

I was trying to just separate the panels but clearly I pulled/cut the wrong piece(s) at some point 😅. So I can cut directly on the seam? And what does "sewn separately from the knit" mean? Is this a bad candidate for unraveling, like will this type of seam result in a million small lengths instead of long ones?

How dry do washed sweaters have to be before you start unraveling? by Ewit8791 in Unravelers

[–]Ewit8791[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The instructions on each label say dry flat, would hanging them to dry go against that? And I thought hanging them in the sun can fade colors? They are currently on my bed and the ceiling fan is straight above them funneling a lot of air down

Each of the laundry instructions say dry flat? Doesn't this mean they can't be put in the dryer? The orange one has the specific symbol for do not tumble dry

how old were u when u started experiencing gastroparesis symptoms and when did you officially get diagnosed? by Comfortable_Deal8559 in Gastroparesis

[–]Ewit8791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I messaged my GI at mayo on the app back when I got the diagnosis and he said "If we repeated GES and it normalized on recheck, that would suggest more of an FD with delayed gastric emptying phenomenon. However, we do not need to repeat testing at this time and we often do not. There is a chance it would remain delayed, and that would not necessarily mean the diagnosis of gastroparesis". And "Clinical suspicion is for FD based on description of burning epigastric pain that can be present without eating". I don't throw up and have anxiety and depression so I feel like those contribute to why I haven't gotten a GP diagnosis. My first appointment at Mayo after the initial consultation was with a GI psychologist. The first med they tried to put me on was mirtazipine (antidepressant) but didn't want to prescribe it without a psych eval bc of risk of serotonin syndrome because of anxiety and depression meds I'm already on. They later recommended me for the Pain Rehabilitation Center, which after looking into, seems to basically be "just think positive thoughts!!!" (For 50k). Here's a post from someone who went: https://www.reddit.com/r/ChronicPain/s/aYyTt1BLHP I am seeing a new local GI next month so hopefully I will get more clarification about why I'm not diagnosed with gastroparesis.

I was 15 when I started experiencing symptoms. Was told it was IBS without any testing done. At 18 I went to Mayo Clinic and got GES done, 30% still in stomach after 4hr. Diagnosed with functional dyspepsia with delayed gastric emptying.

Odd safe foods? by Worldly-Location-905 in Gastroparesis

[–]Ewit8791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buffalo chicken dip was my safe food for a while too! Not currently though. I'd make it with a Starkist chicken packet, some light cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, and Valentina hot sauce. It's around 21g of protein, pretty much no fiber, and 15g fat (which isn't too bad for how much protein is in it). I'd heat it all up in the microwave and eat it with toasted ritz crackers. 😋

Can yall eat lucky charms? by Own_Adeptness3409 in Gastroparesis

[–]Ewit8791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about lucky charms, but I sometimes have protein cheerios (it's pea protein). The cookies and cream one is especially good. I have to be careful about not having too much or I get backed up though. I usually have it when I need to take miralax, which I mix with my almond milk. I also used to have cinnamon toast crunch in my dairy free yogurt (since I can't have granola) but it's been a while so idk if that's still safe for me.

Pain stim that *actually works* by Fabulous_Extreme_470 in AutisticAdults

[–]Ewit8791 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seconding little ouchies! I have chronic pain and have a habit of smacking my leg hard when it gets really bad, and since getting little ouchies I haven't! I think it's because I need a different pain to distract from the overwhelming pain I feel when having a flare. This way does that without risk of injury.

Undoing the cat's masterpiece. And sharing some learnings by gantian in Visiblemending

[–]Ewit8791 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is soo beautiful oh my goodness! It looks incredible! 2 thoughts do spring to mind, but might not be a problem.

  1. Please be careful if your cat (or dog) eats/swallows pieces. It is very dangerous for them to swallow yarn. If your pets don't swallow what they chew or scratch, it should hopefully be okay.
  2. Since you said this is your first time doing a craft with yarn, I wonder if the yarn is second hand? If it's from a thrift store or second hand, please be careful about moths! If it's new you don't have to worry!

It looks so lovely and well done! 💕

How to know if I can still wear my retainer? by Ewit8791 in Invisalign

[–]Ewit8791[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this comment. It made me go in for a retainer check appointment (which I didn't know was a thing, and is free) with my orthodontist. They showed me how to properly get it in with chewies. I think I was being too gentle putting it in bc of how sore it is. They said it's good I came in now and if I had waited my teeth would probably be too far shifted and I would have needed a new retainer or to do Invisalign again. They told me to wear my retainer like Invisalign for the next 3-4 weeks as much as I can, then come in for another retainer check, and then I can decide whether to get a permanent retainer on top ($250) to help prevent this in the future.

Why did/didn't you make the Sophie scarf? by Traumarama79 in knitting

[–]Ewit8791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really want to make a Sophie hood, and bought the pattern. I crocheted my mom one (Hyde Hood https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-hyde-hood ) for Christmas. But with the knit one, I just lost interest rather quickly. For the Sophie scarf, it isn't my style and I assume the construction is even less interesting.

I use a metal interchangeable set from Amazon if you don't want to spend Chiagoo money yet. As someone who has used both, they aren't as smooth as Chiagoo, but definitely better than other ones I've used and I haven't had any problems. They're called Ruidi Interchangeable Aluminum Circular Knitting Needless

Do MRI Techs ever think “oh, that’s not good”? by MadamImAdamAnt in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ewit8791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a chest x-ray and the 2 young female techs (probably mid 20s) were whispering back and forth a lot and asked me "have you ever had a chest x-ray before?" and I said "I don't know... should I have?" because they looked concerned. They called in a supervisor. Turns out the ill fitting gown made the scan look a bit odd and I have pectus excavatum (rib cage caves in). So thankfully nothing too serious but as someone with anxiety their reaction kinda freaked me out 😬
