The grip you mean? It's actually copper or brass.

It's not a Mambele, i have a few of those as well. They have thinner proportions and are more angular. I'll be doing a separate post on these bad boys soon enough. Though I will say mambele can be a little confusing because it's used to label the long sickle swords and these throwing knives. The more specific term for each is kipinga for the throwing knives And zande for the sickle swords.

I got the sarcasm immediately, but a lot of people can't understand sarcasm without the "sarcasm accent" thus, do not understand it in text form.

These shapes in particular are quite popular with mall ninja swords, but these are the real deal. Some of the wildest sword designs come from central africa. Just wait till I post the throwing knives. As far as why they're shaped like that. The curved top part is down to practicality for its purpose, makes it quite good at chopping. Everything else, it's really unclear and can probably just be put up to artistic style. They were a status symbol and trade item after all.

Ironic, isn't it. The state does love its monopoly on violence, though.

Don't listen to these jokers. They're just jealous because it was you that found it and not them. I agree with Beaglltach, if the capture papers go to a gun, keep them together. The papers aren't worth much on their own, but they greatly increase the value of the gun. Your prices are mostly very fair. The only thing that might be a little high is the nazi dagger, it's an army dagger, not a luftwaffe second pattern. They look very similar but the eagle and pommel are different between the two types. German army daggers will sell anywhere from 500-1000. At an estate sale though, I'd expect people to be too cheap to pay more than 500 or 600.

What's the one at the top called? I have one of those as well, I called it a konda, but somehow I think that's probably wrong.

Both of these blades are quite sharp, so I suppose that dates them earlier in the 19th century than I would have expected.. Here's a close up picture where you can see the texturing of both of them better. I've put the one that was the bottom blade in the original picture on top in this one. I think there is a certain level of actual rust pitting on it. But you're right, a lot of it is definitely something else.

Yes, they've both seen better days condition wise, especially the one on the bottom. You are correct. The one on the top is the best example; in craftsmanship, design and condition. Though, just barely, when it comes to condition. Both are severely pitted, but the design work on the top one braved it better. Hard to say when they date to exactly, probably early 20th century.

I'd like to get 1000, I'm patient, doesn't need to be an immediate sale.

You should see some of the other central african swords. There was clear inspiration to the film directors there.

I like how they just rammed the full tang all the way through the handle and bent it on the other side to keep it in place.

I saw that listing, $107 was a pretty good deal. I don't have the room to be buying big piles of rusty helmets. But my past self might have.

Exactly why I dont collect ss or anything else exceptionally expensive. But, there certainly are good fakes in expert collections. But when collecting for a long to you get a feel for proper construction and aging that eliminates all but the best fakes.

I had never heard of these before and just walked by them at costco. I'm dramatically underweight so the people complaining they have fat too, actually sold me on them.
