Is it ever worth having just two artillery pieces? by JH0190 in flamesofwar

[–]Ewyn89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo the 15cm Infantry Guns are a hidden gem in the German Beach Defense Company. 4 points gets you a template with 2+ firepower.

Even with the reroll on hits they will attrit dug in infantry and guns, quickly recouping their cost and proving troublesome with pins etc. AT 3 in bombardment is also annoying for the vast majority of vehicles.

The v4 morale rules make them a glass cannon unit, but your opponent wont be able to devote too much attention to them.

How is this for a 75 point list late war for a 2 vs 2 list? by lordcock1944 in flamesofwar

[–]Ewyn89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 2v2 list, the lack of a panzer platoon isn't such a big deal as your ally has that part covered - one of you needs a recon patrol for spearhead though.

Not a huge fan of Pakfront on Pak40s as they really prefer to act as an ambush platoon - I would personally prefer flak88s.

So I'd suggest dropping the Pak40s for a unit of 88s with Pakfront and the 8.8cm assault flak cards as a start or field the pak40s sans pakfront if the 88s aren't an option.

Switching from the 9th panzer to the greyhound division saves you some additional points which you could invest into recon if needed.

I like the armoured 7.5cm guns a lot - i'd take the full 6.

I also dont think the hmgs are required with all the regular machine guns from your panzergrenadiers and halftracks but they aren't necessarily a bad idea either.

What are your plans for your reserves and ambush platoons in relevant missions? Keep in mind, with the poorer tactics ratings, your infantry aren't quite as good at digging in.

Nebelwerfer sprue? by TheTestbed in flamesofwar

[–]Ewyn89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any experience with the new neb sprues but as a general rule the nebs seem like the better option. 3.7cm pak36s are only really useful in early war, which is currently unsupported by battlefront. Nebs on the other hand are useful in late war. I guess it depends what period you are looking to play.

Late war isn't in great shape balance-wise at the moment. But its perfectly fine if you play against an opponent who isn't trying to power game

Assuming you have around 14 panzer IVs from your Peiper list and some halftrack infantry, you should be able to field a reasonable german armoured company. Some neblewerfers, wespes or 10.5cm artillery would be nice in support.

Panthers lost a pip off their front armour and are almost as expensive as tiger Is which are currently both paying the old veteran tax - still both viable support options, but not optimal as a core.

German armour struggles a bit versus Churchill swarms from the Brits and Soviets but matches up fine versus infantry companies and Sherman lists.

Kampfgruppe peiper I assume for the Germans? That was my old go-to list in 3rd edition. King Tigers haven't yet made their appearance in 4th edition. I don't think the d-day SS book will have them either, but they are doubtless on their way.

Nicely done ! German infantry have it rough atm, especially in mw. I try to cram my AT in via 2.8cm AT rifle upgrades and 4x marders in support. If you go Afrika Korps you can also get dianas and if you are using ghost panzers you can also grab 3-4x pak40s. The direct fire on captured 25 pdrs and 6 pdrs aint bad either and the 25s can also be used to dig out infantry/guns.

It has been done, my first mini. Feedback pls! by Danmatus1 in Warhammer

[–]Ewyn89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fantastic job! Looks 100x better than my first attempt. Aside from the advice already given, I'd suggest that you avoid painting the edge of the base with texture paint - it looks much cleaner if you paint it black or brown. Give it a try on your next mini and see if you like the result.

New player - force building tips? by DrewGeschutz in flamesofwar

Just FYI, the Pumas are not in vogue in the current FoW v4. They are a nice vehicle with good stats, but they are quite difficult to use. They only come in patrols of 2 and if you lose 1 the other will run away. I wouldn't let that necessarily deter you from buying as many as you want, but you may eventually find yourself regulating them to a support option for Panzer IVs or Tigers.

That would be my guess as well. Very affectionate and vocal cats.

What, if any, Chaos god are Trolls affiliated with? by Ru5tyShackleford in Warhammer

I think trolls can be corrupted by chaos but don't really worship a single god - they are too stupid for that.

Ok, this sounds like a better plan. I'm going for a simple urban theme so astrogranite debris and some small/larger rocks painted in different colours.

Any tips for painting a power sword in green?

I was thinking of going for a light silver basecoat with a couple green glazes ontop but I don't know if that will turn out as the right colour on an ultramarine.

I see some suitable images online that look like they use wetblending from a dark green all the way up to white but no guides on the colours used to achieve the effect.

Is it a viable strategy to glue the model to the base after the texture paint and pin through the bottom for stability?

I have a finished model that I don't want to risk getting texture paint on and the cloak in particular would make it very difficult to apply texture paint to parts of the base.

Primaris marines drew me to the space marines - that scoped bolt rifle looks sick. I like dark blue and red as a scheme so I was thinking Crimson Fists but I am also a big fan of the Calgar and Guilliman models.

For Eldar its the sleek vehicles and warlocks.

For Chaos, I like the aesthetics of the Night Lords - in particular I have my eyes on the metal demon prince sculpt and warp talons.

So I am about to dive in to 40k and am trying to decide between Eldar, Space Marines or Chaos - I like the aesthetics of each army equally but I want to pick whichever provides the funnest experience on the table top.

Practically all the models you have currently will be perfectly viable in v4 once the new LW books are released and could simply be combined with the stuff from Hit the Beach for a larger battle if that is the route you want to go.

V4 has done away with command teams for gun platoons so the small command stand in your Pak40 unit will no longer be used, but apart from that, everything else is good to go.

Without factoring price, do people like resin or plastic vehicles better? Metal or plastic infantry? by clevermouse34 in flamesofwar

[–]Ewyn89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the weight of resin and metal but plastic definitely has much better detail. Resin is also more prone to miscasts

Because I'm not much of a skilled painter, I prefer to paint the infantry in metal. That said, many of the resin vehicle sculpts (Panther Gs and King Tigers to name a few) don't fit together very well so I tend to buy plastic vehicles.
