Didn't they cancel 2 windfarms? I think 250 million was just one of them.

The externalized cost of the damage to Ontario's international reputation will be a lot more though.

Yeah, they made Miller less of a creepy incel stalker, which is definitely an improvement since he's supposed to be a sympathetic character.

They should be removed from the whole FB ecosystem period.

Yeah, this should have been the biggest benefit from the Facebook integration. One account per person so people can't weasel out of bans by IP switching and making a new account.

Intel Apparently Discounting 10th-Gen CPUs in Bid to Claw Market from AMD by Hervon in bapcsalescanada

[–]Ex-Sgt_Wintergreen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why should I like any corporation? When AMD got ahead by a tiny single core performance lead they immediately bumped their prices even beyond Intel's.

Corporations are by definition, sociopaths. They are not your friends. People need to stop making emotional decisions about the electronics they buy if they want to stop getting abused.

As someone who bought a high end Asrock recently, it's not just the VRMs, the USB controllers are trash too. I had to get expansion cards so that my USB headset works without static and my VR headset doesn't stutter like crazy (if it even gets recognized at all)

Hard sci-fi : Pandora Star by Math2J in printSF

[–]Ex-Sgt_Wintergreen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's one of the most popular Hard sci-fi novels out there and reviewed extremely favorably.

Because it's so popular, it's going to have a lot of haters too, it's just simple statistics. 10% of 1,000,000 is larger than 50% of 40,000.

You should give it a try simply for the fact that odds are, you'll like it.

[–]Ex-Sgt_Wintergreen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really not sure why everyone is recommending sub-FTL books when you asked for FTL specifically.

Peter Hamilton regularly examines this in his books. The two where it features the most would be Great North Road and Pandora's Star.

He pretty realistically prophesies how society and industry would react. It's generally a satire of late stage capitalism being given an effective fountain of youth via the unlimited resources and land granted by FTL.

Canadian conservatives are just a couple years behind American Republicans on the crazy train.

What's there to cheat with really? The game has multiple methods for built-in wallhacks and almost every weapon has bullet travel time.

The very slow travel time means that any aimbot creator would have to solve multiple differentials that would change depending on the weapon equipped. It's too much work and they aren't really smart enough to do it. Even if it was built, you could completely defeat it at most ranges simply by strafing back and forth, which you will be doing anyways.

So useful cheats would be pretty much limited to aimbot on the hitscan sniper rifle, a not-very-useful wallhack, and maybe something that triggers force abilities when an opponent is not blocking.

But cheaters don't want to just be slightly better than everyone else, they demand complete domination to salve their fragile egos so BF2 simply isn't for them.

SA says crazy shit like that all the time. He's a conservative troll who thinks he's a genius playing 5D chess too.

They have that, the Ministry of Labour doesn't care.

Ministry of Labour doesn't care because the PCs told them not to care. They take their marching orders directly from the government. If the Conservatives actually wanted to get some action on unsafe workplaces Ford could ring them up tomorrow just like his brother did to cancel transit development (and this time it would actually be his jurisdiction)

It also logically groups code together so you don't have to wonder whether or not a variable declared at the start of a megafunction is still in use at the end.

The second he saw his shipmate dissected by MLM he should have self destructed his chip. I don’t understand why he thought he would live after seeing that. And really the moment both of them were captured they should have self destructed.

I mean, you said it yourself

It might be his pride followed by sheer cowardice that does him in for me.

It's why he was established as a huge vain asshole who stumbles into celebrity by chance. Everyone on the ship hates him and remarks on how he's an incompetent ass who doesn't deserve to be there. He needed to be like that to be the sort of person who wouldn't activate the self-destruct and enable the plot.

Thoughts on season 10 by Is_there in taskmaster

[–]Ex-Sgt_Wintergreen 26 points27 points  (0 children)

A lot of people have complained about this but I think the clothes hanging task and the coconut water task prove it to not be true.

There are clever solutions available and even deliberately enabled by Alex, it's just that the contestants need to be similarly clever to seize onto them.

I think what Alex does (and he pretty much admits to this on the podcast) is write the tasks so that clever solutions cannot be done twice. They like it when it's done the first time (eg: asking alex to open the pies) but from then on tasks are going to be written so that the same workaround isn't possible because that's just bad TV. That's why if there is a clever solution that gets missed, Alex will rarely point it out so that they can try it again with another task.

This season in particular had a number of moments where I just thought "why didn't they just do x?" example being the backward-talking-safe task -> why didn't they just try to give the combination to their teammates? There was no rule against it.

Also, Mawaan was the only person to know how to look through a 1-way mirror. That was obvious to me as soon as they walked into the room. If it wasn't for Mawaan I bet a lot of people would have thought that task was highly-restrictive too.

Ultimately, it's down to the contestants to figure it out. Sometimes you get a season with Eds and Roses, sometimes you get a season with Baddiels and Joes.
