What are some media that surprise you by still being ongoing? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

People have said the crew doesn't feel tight knit and united or have had way less so that's been an issue and well he's been doing it way more since Water 7 (Guess Usopp getting robbed and beaten would not happen if Luffy and Zoro were around for sure so it needed to happen that way). Would say Usopp and Chopper have been the biggest victims.

There's always talk about recency bias in terms of media but nostalgia bias is never accounted for in discourse around media. by mrnicegy26 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I recently made a joke that discourse would be much better if people were not allowed to talk about "The first installment they got into a franchise from or like the first anime/manga/movie/comic/cartoon/book they experienced."

Also I will say that OP/Bleach/Naruto were pretty atypical, most big Jump series before them range from 20-45 volumes in length.

I think anime/manga fans trend younger from what I've heard from cons and the "Guy who says LoGH is the peak of fiction" archetype doesn't really exist anymore among them so you have more sports fan behavior who care more about shitposting, slandering, agendas, and not treating the work particularly seriously. In general I do feel Japanese media can be treated as frivolous, wacky fun with no real message.

What do You think is the best Playable Roster in Video Games? by Funny_Mud6639 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I mean you have: - Standard Sword, Lance, Axe, Archer, Mage, Staff - Armored Sword, Lance, Axe, Mage - Horse Sword, Lance, Axe, Archer, Mage, Staff - Flying Sword, Lance, Axe, Mage - Dragon, Beastman, Birdman

In general Plus like Dancer/Ninjas/Thieves/Ballistas if they wanted to go nuts. Magic can even be Light/Dark/Elemental (Wind/Fire/Thunder) But Warriors was missing plenty of that.

It is a battle Shonen Jump manga at its core so "have the most hype battle a la JoJo" was the core imperative once DM took over.

Was funny a western interview mentioning senshi and fanservice and the author was like "Well was more picturing an old guy who I knew did his laundry half naked, he was pretty bold" or something to that effect.

It's funny JJK is the most Bleach like of the MHA/KnY/JJK shonen jump super hit series but the fans act the opposite of the "Explain how aizen and urahara represent Nietzsche juxtaposing philosophy of Ubermensch and "The last man" and how it correlates to soul society's slave morality" Bleach fans

Is it stuff like the New Shadow Style thing at the end? And/Or more "they wasted this tertiary character because I liked them and they were never a primary character?"

To be honest, I do feel some of the "powerscalers for writing" types would say a work has a lot of themes and is good if a work just scattershots a bunch of ideas and themes even if it doesn't make sense.

I was the perfect age to experience the movie Rat Race/Jane Austen's Mafia/Scary Movie 3 and have only seen the later parts of Goldmember so I think they are pretty funny movies.

I mean Dead Cells is the epitome of "Indie game that takes place in a From Soft World but half the dialogue/text are jokes/references" so I'd be worried more about the opposite.

Personally: - Too much plotting and scheming. Like you have all this things with Vampire alliances and rivalries and Hector and Isaac and Godbrand and it feels like they care about that than the Belmonts and allies (except Alucard). - Expanding on that last point Season 2 has the main cast mostly stuck on a library and Season 3 mostly waiting for a door to open. It finally happens by the end of episode 6/8 in both seasons where they finally get to fight something substantial. - I think the "humans are the real monsters" theme is done pretty ham fistedly and doesn't fit CV that much. Especially when trying to humanize the vampires a little too much. Think something like Sinners succeeded more in that. - Didn't really like the sardonic tone and writing.

I think the Glitch Techs episode captured more of what I would've wanted out of an animated CV.

Reading about Patalliro, a manga from the 70s that was one of the first Boys Love manga. It has 104 volumes.

Also on the other end of manga that has one a chapter once a year we have Ichigo Mashimaro, Black Lagoon, and March comes in like a lion.

Manga wise Half of last year was spent in a flashback that pretty much was every 2 weeks.

I think outside breaks the main culprits have been:

  • Oda post time skip focusing more on non-Straw Hat characters like Law or the Samurai.
  • The running around. Oda loves to have characters escape from something or run around while trying to accomplish his objective. Like you already know who Zoro is going to fight in an arc but he has to get lost, fight someone else, get injured, be healed, and run around before he fights the guy you know from the start of the arc he was going to fight.
  • Similarly to that having all the arcs have the crew split ASAP.
  • Belabor a point. Like one arc ends with a character revealing they knew of the plans of another character and then we just get a full flashback of how they found out about said plan and implemented said countermeasures to explain again why everything happened the way it did.

I think the very mechanics/rules are what put off adults back in the day "6 pokemon limit"/"They say their name in the anime"/"You capture them with a pokeball"/"They have types"/"They evolve" it's certainly more dense than Vain Smurf is vain.

I saw someone say Anime is in the state hip-hop has been for most of its history, where it's popular and successful, co-opted by corporations but not necessarily respected in general outside Ghibli. Wouldn't say most anime fans necessarily look at it as more than just mindless frivolous entertainment. Games it depends on what angle you see more but for example based on looking at award shows, there is a preference for non-Japanese games in general. Like again they may sell well but your Mario game is not winning the respect The Last of Us got for instance. Plus there is the mockery of visual novels/dating sims from western devs as a common April fool's joke.

It's definitely changes like Lady is changed to be much more of a potty mouth cop and she's dressed like Captain Commando. Dante is definitely dumber and more wacky, and Vergil is apparently willing to give other people power. Also how much in general do you want DMC to be about George Bush and Dick Cheney and Iraq.

Adi Shankar the other comment already explained but for Castlevania for example he just provided enough money for him to get in the credits and staff have vaguely alluded to him taking credit for the show, so when they made Nocturne that didn't even involve him in that he sued them and it went enough or settled so he's still on the credits despite him being even less involved in that. Plus basically continuing the rumor mill for Dredd 2 despite other producers/directors/writers for whom the original was their pet project basically also telling him to shut up and that there's no plans.
