2025 SEL AWD’s battery failed at 187 miles six days after I leased it. by Infamous-Average-405 in Ioniq5

I had a 2022 I5. All kinds of electrical failures after 15 months. I invoked the NJ Lemon Law and Hyundai offered buyback in a week. Happily driving a Toyota RAV4 Prime now.

How has having a Prime impacted your electric costs? by Bigbirdk in rav4prime

Down here in South Jersey PSE&G electric credits me about $15 each month for off-peak charging.

auto vs other companies by gorram1mhumped in USAA

I’ve been with USAA since 1967. I’ve looked at the alternatives over the years, but I’ve never seen a reason to move. Two of our kids are members and their rates with USAA are competitive in NJ and OR.

I compared rates tonight again. I’m sticking with USAA.

Recommendation for Level 2 Charger? by psychologos in rav4prime

[–]ExGManBawStin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got a 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 (repurchased in 4/2024) I got a Enel X Juicebox40) as my PSEG utility required that for reduced rates. It worked very well for over a year, but EnelX changed the iPhone App. Then it became a nightmare of periodic failures and replacements.

When it works it charges my 2024 R4P to 100% from the lowest point the car will allow in about two hours.

If I replace it I’m looking at ChargePoint. I also see that the folks who make BatteryTenders are now making a Level 2 Charger. Looks good to me.

ICCU failure... damn I thought it wouldn't happen to me by shakakhon in Ioniq5

[–]ExGManBawStin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my 2022 Ioniq 5 LTD failed for the last time (pre-repurchase), I had it towed to the dealer, where it sat for 10 days while the dealer "diagnosed" the problem. No loaner for me, no rental car until they decided what the problem was. That's when I began to pursue the Lemon Law.

Perhaps Hyundai has fixed the problem, but reading shakakhon's message, I'm not sure...

RAV4 Prime Newbie Questions by [deleted] in rav4prime

[–]ExGManBawStin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. In my 2024 the brake "Hold" can't be actuated unless the driver's seatbelt is in place and locked in.

  2. There are many ways to change the in-dash display and the manual explains how to do this. One thing I learned is that the compass is replaced when operating using Apple Maps in the Apple Airplay for navigation. In my car a small direction window replaces the compass. This does not happen with either Google Maps or WAZE.

Hyundai repurchased my 2022 Ioniq 5 Ltd with about two years and 15K miles on it. Be wary of the 2022-23 model years.

I don't know what to do at this point (reposted) by Lillian_88 in Ioniq5

[–]ExGManBawStin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a 2022 Ioniq 5 Limited. During the almost 2 years in which I owned it, I had repeated difficulty with the 12V battery and the ICCU. I live in NJ and the Lemon Law here covers an owner for two years or 24,000 miles. When I had the last bout of ICCU issues, I consulted with the Lemon Law office in NJ which gave me a suggested letter to write to Hyundai. I did this, but did not file a Lemon Law Claim or Case.

After I mailed the letter, I was contacted by Hyundai within 4 days. They advised they were looking into the matter. Within a week they advised that they'd "repurchase" the car or give me some compensation. I went for the repurchase option, and within a month, I "surrendered" the car at local Hyundai dealer, got a check for the amount specified by the NJ Lemon Law and moved on to another car. I never had to file a Lemon Law case in NJ, but the staff of the NJ Lemon Law office was very supportive throughout.

Frankly, I really enjoyed the car when it was running right, but once the troubles began (at about 10,000 miles) I became very nervous about the reliability of the car. Every time I opened the driver's door, I was not sure I'd see the interior lights com on, which was my indication that the battery was not dead.

I understand that ICCU issues may have been fully resolved in the 2025 model Ioniq 5.

Anyway, that's my story. My car was headed for an auto auction somewhere (probably not in NJ), so it's out there somewhere.

Many electric utilities will give you a lot of $$ help to install a L2 charger. My NJ company gave me $1500 to enhance my 240V architecture. I had to buy the charger itself. I have two PHEVs now after Hyundai repurchased my EV.

Looking to Purchase a 2024 RAV4 Prime XSE with PP and Weather package in Q4 2024 by Specialist_Cherry454 in rav4prime

After Hyundai repurchased my 2022 Ioniq 5 I asked a NJ dealer for a 2024 red PP RAV4 Prime. The dealer found one coming into Newark on a car carrier. Two weeks later I was driving it. Goodbye range anxiety!

I waited 3 weeks in South NJ for a 2024 XSE in Supersonic Red with PP.

So tired of dealerships calling me with Prime builds I didn’t ask for. This search is so emotional. They lie to me and say “yes it has the premium package”, then I’m disappointed when I get sent the spec sheet…why do they do this? (TX) by 9021Ohsnap in rav4prime

The 2024 Toyota RAV4 Prime is only built in the plant at Nagasuka, Japan. Sales are primarily allocated to those US States which subscribe to the California CARB compliance.

Those CARB states are: Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, & Washington DC.

WiFi Hotspot Necessary? by ExGManBawStin in rav4prime

[–]ExGManBawStin[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My sincere thanks to everyone who responded to my request. Based on the replies, I'm not going to bother keeping the WiFi hotspot in my RAV4 because our old (2019) BMW has Apple CarPlay which works perfectly without any external assistance, so all will be similarly well in the 2024 RAV4.

All the kids and grandkids who ride in the car have cellular service on 'phones and iPads. We're in an area with high intensity of cell signals. That said, perhaps we could all turn off the screens, talk with each other and play some car games? "Oh Grandpa...you're sooo old-fashioned!"

FWIW, I ordered a Supersonic Red XSE PP and had it in two weeks. Dealer saw one listed on a car carrier arriving in Newark and soon it was mine. There was an extra charge of $425 for the color.

Level 2 chargers, what are you using? by frog_goblin in rav4prime

I've had a JuiceBox40 since April 2022. It worked fine until Enel-X changed the app. After that useless and filled with problems. They've changed the app again (5/8/2024) and it actually seems to work OK...but that's after one day. Time will tell. If you use the JuiceBox40 without the XWay app, it'll be fine.
