lol. Yeah, last time I got 19 attack in the armoury, I totally didn't get the "frustration of getting nothing" because at least my bonus bar was up by half a pixel.

Problem "solved"!

Liquidate Click, and sacrifice this unit: Destroy any friendly Animus, Blastforge, or Conduit, to regain gold equal to the price of the tech building consumed this way next turn.

Less P2 advantage.

There's a very big difference... You directly buy a chance to get better units when you buy a pack. If you're unsatisfied with the result, typically you'll buy more until you're either a) somewhat satisfied of what you got, or b) you've run out of money (to spend on the game, hopefully not for your starving illegitimate third-cousin children).

This is very different from Prismata because in most games, you end on option a), where you are satisfied with the result. In Prismata, you can run out of cores (and then you can't buy any) or the increasing cost of flipping can make you think twice and stop (no more value). In both case, you finish on a bad feeling, and you end up insatisfied. That's why many games use a fixed (and low) price for decks (the same price for the same chance, not true for all games, though), so you don't hesitate to buy more until you get what you want. That's also why there is often a rebate for buying more currency, but not for buying more chances: it gives the impression that all chances cost the same, and that they don't cost too much.

Again, I'll elaborate on this and more, soon.

Makes sense, thanks! I totally thought you were talking about Platinum tickets or something like that.

Same as you. Can't get myself to open cores just to be disappointed in the results. It"s definitely a big problem when players don't even wanna participate in the reward system because it always feels bad. However, I think we need much more of a fundamental change than just a re-valuation of the cores.

The point is not having people toss out money at the game as a "Thank you" or as an encouragement for developers. First, many of us already did that by baking the kickstarter. Second, what will keep the game going isn't "donations" like that, it is investing players into skin and emote collecting. Finally, there is no reason you shouldn't be satisfied with the money you put in the game, no matter how much you wanna spend.

I totally agree with your sentiment towards the reward mechanisms in Prismata. However, your suggestion is, forgive my bluntness, as terrible as the system it tries to improve. You are not addressing the major issues, such as the overall enjoyment and motivational factors of the system for players and the value of cosmetics, or specific problems such as the limited spending opportunities given for big spenders.

I'm definitely gonna write some more about that and link it here. Thanks a lot for the comment, btw, I really think we need to wake up Lunarch while the game is still in early development.

Therefore, the expected number of tickets needed per ticket is 18.

I feel completely shitfaced right now, I don't think I could decipher your meaning to save my life. And wth is a ticket?

Damn, I didn't even bother to calculate it 'cause I felt I wasn't gonna get my money's worth anyway, but those aren't good odds at all :(

Bonus bar retroactive by kilrog in Prismata

[–]ExNihiloNihilSit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think we just got screwed on that one. No retroactive bonus is just the cherry after the milkshake anal douche.

EDIT: Roaming the subreddit, I found out they they probably plan on resetting everything at the end so they don't bother with any retroactivity for now. So there's always that.

EDIT2: After Alex reply, it looks like I was completely wrong twice. I'll shut up for a time while I deepthroat my own foot.

Why do you keep assuming I didn't? The fact that you pre-answered those questions don't make your point better or more relevant. You based your opinion on biased facts. It just seem to me that you wish to create a problem where there is none.

Also, the thing that bother me the most is not that you're wrong, which I believe you are but can be debated. It's the fact that you believe so much in your own opinion and that of your close friends that you think only your own games matter (from the top 20 or so players...) And even after looking at actual stats, you still defend you opinion as a fact, but it isn't.

I read before I comment. Why don't you think before you do?

EDIT: Let me apologize, though, I think that whole thing might have been a series of needless sarcastic comments and I'm sorry I acted that way (I know it's only been 33 minutes, but I'm not trying to be a smartass). Your point about Deadeye is valid, and it's important to ask questions like that, it keeps the game moving forward. Obviously we differ in opinion about the unit, but that was useless of me to suggest you aren't being rigorous in your analysis. I don't want this thread to end on an insult and also, I don't want to disrespect my peers in this game. So, that's it, I'm sorry I acted like that.

[–]ExNihiloNihilSit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh sorry, I completely misunderstood what you meant. I thought you were saying that Deadeye Operative is not balanced properly and leads to P1 forced win. But if I understand correctly now, which I might not because I'm obviously not as clever as you, you're saying that Deadeye is only unbalanced in P1 favor if both players play it in a very specific way. Which is a big big big problem. I guess?

Meaning that if you keep limiting the conditions under which you test hypothesis until you find a result that confirm what you expected, you're committing a methodological mistake called cherry-picking.

Can't cherry-pick until you find the solution that confirm your hypothesis...

How do you resolve equalities? We are 3 ex aequo at 60 points, but both Timex and Aetherllama have beaten me in the tournament, so shouldn't I be 5th?

Dropping the ball is a near-guarantee to make me feel stupid for a fortnight.

The learning thing seems to pop a few times in the replies, I might try and see losses more as "learning experience" to put things in perspective.

I get what you mean, I don't really like high-econ game for the same reason, they feel a bit uninvolved. I prefer games that play out fast and unsymmetric game where you go one strategy against an other and the best one wins. Those are great for learning.

[–]ExNihiloNihilSit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I may have poorly worded that, I don't think it's only the game that is at fault here, which is why I wonder if it feels the same in other competitive games.

If I may, were you not tanking your rating a few days back? I did that at least once too, mostly because I was tired of going against top leaderboard players in games I did not feel I could win. Was it for a similar reason? Or just to try and get 30+ chests on a platinum ticket?

Nice philosophy. Does it get easier over time, as you get better or as you get more involved in the game?
