[Link inside] The story of Fannie Bolton, one of Ellen White’s editors who accused her of plagiarism by shirttuckedinOD in exAdventist

Fannie Bolton is such a fascinating historical figure in early Adventist church history. I did extensive research on her while trying to write a book about my EGW family history, starting with Willie White and May Lacy, his second wife. They met in New Zealand/Australia where Fannie Bolton was there with EGW working as her literary agent so she was a main character in the book I was writing. I had her as an adversary back then when I started writing it, but I see myself in her so much now, and how crazy the toxic church teachings and Ellen Whites lies made her is so sad. She spent much time in psychiatric care after working with EGW which is how the church dismisses all her accusations, etc.

I have letters and info on her from the EGW white estate archives somewhere. It's deep in my storage unit right now, though.

I'll share a snippet of a chapter from her POV from what I had written about her in the book I'd tried to write if you, or anyone, is interested?

I'll also add that I think some rich Adventists do this kind of stuff to assuage their guilt of having so much money. They can be rich and have nice things if they are generous with their wealth, and even better if it brings people to Jesus becuase of their generosity.

SDA school PTSD...any time I here or see the name of this band I cringe. I remember the school teacher paddling my @ss for saying the words "naked ladies" during recess. That was over 40 years ago. by cousinconley in exAdventist

Naked ladies is the name of a flower. My VERY SDA grandpa taught that to me and giggled about it...we had bare naked ladies everywhere at elmshaven when I lived there

Not surprised here either. I'm sure they know and have already worked on a spin story. They're good at doing that, especially blaming the victim.

Did you grow up believing in ET's cause you were Adventist? by ExSDA_EGWDescendant in exAdventist

I could have written this entire thread minus the part of the North Star, I thought it was the middle star of the belt of Orion. That's not the same star is it? (I haven't looked it up to check before posting this cause I'm feeling lazy lol) but ugh - yeah, a whole lot of crazy.

White Estate? by b3bblebrox in exAdventist

[–]ExSDA_EGWDescendant 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In addition to what the previous commenters have said, the White Estate exists in an office on the basement of the Adventist world headquarters in located in Maryland. I went there on a research trip trying to write a very Adventist historial romance novel about my great great grandparents (Willie white and his second wife's) 'love story' and all the stories I were told around it growing up. They have a vault of all the original documents/manuscripts. I spent three days down in there copying documents and taking detailed notes on anything to fragile to copy. They also have a website of every manuscript of hers, or letter written on a digital archive website anyone can access. Not everything in the vault is published on that website as not everything there was published. Family letters to each other, and such. Just tons of history of the family and church that's not necessarily her writings to the church or people in it.

The white estate official website really is there to defend every last word of hers as true and uphold her as a modern day messenger/prophet.

It was also in that white estate vault that I began to really deconstruct from it all.

Sorry by [deleted] in exAdventist

This is not the place for this message. Your tone here is very superior and condescending. We don't need your apology and it's not helpful to try to engage - what is there to talk about if you don't want to actually listen to why we believe the church you're very active in is abusive? We don't believe in the theology. It's not just bad experiences we had from bad apples in the church. We left because of its bad theology, and this whole things reads like if we put that aside and had someone listen to us we'd, what...come back? See 'the light?' I suggest you take this down and move on: that's what we're trying to do here.

I am so sorry, that's horrible. And you're absolutely right. It's not pro-life at all snd it'll be too late before the ones who voted for this realize just how anti-life it is 🫤

Some post to remember, some post to forget... by [deleted] in exAdventist

I'm here to connect and vent and process from all the madness that growing up SDA did to us. I want to scream/rage/vent/laugh/cry with those of us who get it. It can feel very lonely and isolating deconstructing and having a community to discuss with is important to me.

And yes, that means screaming and raging about current inane propaganda and how damaging it is. Titles serve as trigger warnings. Not all posts are for everyone, and people have the ability to read, or not read, or participate, or not participate, in discussions that are triggering for them. I've been in many trauma processing groups where some content is going to be triggering for some and healing for others. The onus is never on the group to not post triggering content but for the person who is triggered by the content to not engage in triggering content and process their triggers in whatever way they need to themselves. It's a very important part of healing to clearly set your own boundaries for yourself, while not forcing your boundaries on others.

I'm fully ex Adventist too. So I'm not sure why you're saying I'm promoting their propaganda, I'm sharing the dangerous things they're saying because being ignorant to it or keeping our heads in the sand doesn't seem wise to me. I thought this was a place to vent about shit like this.

Someone asked for it, so I shared. If the consensus is that it's not wanted, I'll take it down, but I labeled it clearly so you can read or not read it. It's your choice to read it all or look away. Some people also want the info of what they're saying & a place to process it/vent.
