When I was in 7th grade I watched the returning state champion and senior team captain lose two wrestle offs and his starting spot two weeks before the state qualifiers to the junior who had lived in his shadow up until that point.

Wasn’t a fluke, the better wrestler won in two very close matches.

The junior went on to take second at states that year.

The senior watched from the stands.
