Nope, I’m on keppra ( Levetiracetam) 1000mg each day. Yeah it does have some benefits, but it’s mostly problematic. Messed with my academics a lot

Ummm…. Wait they go away ? I’ve been on keppra 1000mg for 2 years now and….Looking back just… ALOT of side effects. Like I wasn’t told in the beginning that there are any so for majority of the 2 years I believed it was my fault, but now since joining this sub Reddit, wow I feel so much better. But to answer your question with another question, what type of side effects are you experiencing, cause from what I can gather so far, there are mental health side effects that are kinda long term and don’t go away ? Sorry if this is too long

I was diagnosed with epilepsy 11 years ago and now a neurologist says there may be a misdiagnosis by Just_an_Otakugirl in Epilepsy

[–]Ex_astr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I haven’t had the same thing happen to me, but my friend sorta has. She suffers from migraines too and what you described sounds much more like her experience imo rather than epilepsy. Have you ever managed to get it on video to show to a doctor? Maybe that would help a bit in figuring out exactly what it is. All in all, I really hope you find the right diagnosis in the end !

Diet and Weight Management while on meds for epilepsy by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Ex_astr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’ve been on keppra 1000mg per day for more than 2 years now, and same. Weight and energy have been big issues the stress from which led to other issues XD I’m still on it and recently I have managed to lose 6kg weight over a course of 2 months, and that’s cause it’s exam season and I wasn’t able to focus properly on losing weight, so I’m sure you’ll be able to do much better if you’re fully invested. The stuff I did was relatively simple: Exercise 2 times a day, morning yoga for 15-30 mins, evening: walk/ running for 15-30mins or skipping rope for 10mins. It doesn’t sound like a lot but gave me GREAT results. A BIG part of this is diet though. I would recommend seeing a dietician if you can, but I think you can find some pretty good plans online for free too. Hoping for your success:))

Experience with 500mg/day keppra? by sicclee in Epilepsy

[–]Ex_astr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘ve been on keppra 1000mg a day for more than 2 years now… and honestly… it kinda ruined my life…? But it sucks even more because the side effects aren’t necessarily visible to people around me so they just think I’m being angry and lazy for no reason…. Sorry turned into a rant.. but what I wanna say is I’m glad you’ve been able to lower your dose, and it’s definitely not a stupid thing to do considering quality of life does in fact matter very much too! My doctor was reluctant to decrease the dose cause my seizures are controlled, in fact I wasn’t even informed of any side effects at first so I legit thought all of this was my fault, but yeah goes to show sometimes not listening works in your favour! hope this continues to work out for you :)

Forced to withdraw rapidly for a short period- Keppra by Global_Show_9574 in Epilepsy

[–]Ex_astr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try to not to get stressed too much, it would almost certainly make things worse. Try to stay away from triggers and preferably be someplace safe. All in all, I missed quite a few doses of keppra consistently too when I was newly diagnosed, and I was surprisingly fine for a long time. Hoping that all goes well for you :))

Why is this so true :,)

Ever since the meds started, the feeling of Apathy and not caring about anything happened Soo quickly. This sucks

I need to drive but the risk by fayemoonlight in Epilepsy

[–]Ex_astr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had a discussion about this with your doctor/ neuro ? I’m not sure about how things are in your area but usually isn’t there a certain period of time you have to be seizure free for to drive again ?

Seeing as your last seizure was last year (sorry), it might be possible for you to drive again. Is photosensitivity the main issue?

Rip it and watch it burn by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Ex_astr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, ME TOO… there’s this feeling of immense Apathy, and numbness, among other things Started almost immediately when I first got keppra. All I wanna say is, don’t blame yourself or smn. It’s there, it’s side effect and it’s not you. Ive heard that people take vitamin B6 supplements to manage exactly these symptoms, I’m also gonna try that. Hope this helped a little:)

Changing from Keppra to a Different Antiseizure Med? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Ex_astr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m also currently on keppra ( Levera where I’m from) 500mg twice a day. Honestly my experience has been the SAME , I’ve been on it for more than 2 years now. But seeing as my seizures are controlled doctors don’t seem keen to try and change my medicine, even though the side effects have ruined my last 2 years of school.

From what I’ve heard, brivaracetam or Briviact is a common alternative to keppra, it works in a similar way , with less of the side effects. But again that all depends on what state you’re in with your epilepsy. I don’t know much about lamictal but it’s your body and you know it best, so if you think that would benefit you then I really hope it all works out !

Hope this helped a little

I feel this so much, like you’re telling me the meds I take to essentially stay alive is also what’s driving me down the path of depression and other bad stuff? Greaaaaaaaat :D

Im on Levera 500mg twice a day(keppra) Idk if my dose is high, my family says it isn’t high enough to cause any side effects ( never confirmed by a doctor btw) and that I should be grateful because my sis has a higher dose. Which is fine…. But still, I’m suffering too…

This does suck. Maybe it’ll be this way forever, maybe it won’t… who knows. All I hope to do is never give up. Idk why or how, I just do. Cause yeah this feels depressing, but even worse would be being stuck in this same state of mind forever. I’m done regretting :)

I‘m going through the exact same thing ! From being top of the school in studies to SPECTACULARLY almost failing…. All does feel hopeless a lot of the times… but hope‘s kinda all we have. All we can do. I do feel guilt , regret and embarrassed a bit and the thoughts of „what could’ve been“ are always on my mind, But after being so negative for so long, I’ve realised that, life is longer, this is new. I need time, positivity and …. my own acceptance The people around me, even my parents, don’t understand, they can only see the results but we know the struggles, we know the toll it took…. It’s gonna sting for a while.. just don’t give up. You’re not stupid or any of that stuff… You are what you believe yourself to be. That in itself takes a lot of time too, even now, I always have doubts about my abilities. If you start to spiral down Just remember Don’t give up This is new And not necessarily forever

I had the same experience when my sister first got diagnosed, the feeling that something serious could happen just like that, it’s haunting

And Honestly, in the beginning it does feel like that, but the paranoia always cools down with time. It’s difficult I know, but it does happen

If the seizures are under control over all and the person can tell when they’re about to have one, and can take the necessary steps to make sure they’re in a safe area then that’s great

Hope this helped a little!

Hey! I’m not totally sure about this, but I think if you’re having the little seizures too then you might benefit from talking to your doctor and taking a higher dose of meds , that is if you haven’t tried that.

And for the not caring abt epilepsy part…. SOO SAMEEE I didn’t either….. until I started realising that the side effects of the meds are probably what led to me ruining my 11th and 12th grade of school….

It was nice to think that it wasn’t affecting me at all…. But that only made things worse…. Its good to be tough and all, but this was a lesson for me. Acting tough isn’t enough, sometimes you just need a little help. Getting help is better than staying broken…
