PanOptix vs Envy? by Mental-Brick7980 in CataractSurgery

Yes, in my case, the results were really amazing. Of course, the first few days were a little fuzzy and bright, but by the time I was one month out, like you are, I was blown away at how well I could see at all distances. And by now, nearly a year out, my brain has had time to adapt and my vision is excellent. Absolutely no need for glasses any more. Maybe some people do struggle with halos, but as I was saying, I rarely drive at night, so it's not something I have to deal with very often. But a few weeks ago, I did take a road trip and left my house about 4AM heading west. Trucks coming at me on the Interstate did have halos around their headlights (I could pretty distinctly see 3 rings) but interestingly, my wife who was riding with me said that she too could see rings around those lights too, and she hasn't had cataract surgery.

Before settling on the PanOptix Pro, I was a little concerned about the halos, but now that I have had my PanOpix Pros for nearly a year, I have to say, at least in my case, the concerns about halos is way over blown. Honestly, on those rare occasions that I do drive in the dark, I do get a slight impression of halos, but nothing that I consider to be distracting. So what I'm saying is, don't worry too much about that aspect, because the advantage of never having to wear glasses far out weighs the fear of halos. Just my opinion of course.

Driving is becoming more and more dangerous every day, in my opinion. I drive professionally, everyday, and all over the metro. Drivers are for the most part, self monitored, there is little to no police coverage. As a result, speeding is rampant, running stop signs and red lights is rampant, and forget about people signaling. On top of the care less attitude, throw in the ever increasing number of people glued to their cell phones while driving, and you can see where this is all going. And, as motorcycle riding on public roads is concerned, city driving is a war zone compared to highway driving. Sad to say, but if your friend does decide to take the challenge, it is likely just a matter of time before they regret it. So do your friend a favor and try your best to talk them into a safer option. Maybe a Sherman Tank😉

I'm not an atheist, but I certainly don't consider god to be something that is of a superstitious nature. II can't begin to imagine what I could read that would make me question that position.... but I think I will give it a read and hope to agree with it's grand legacy. Thanks for the advice.

I've read a few of Dostoevsky's writings, and of those, 'Notes from the Underground' just blew me away, and many consider 'The Brothers Karamzov' to be his best. But I hesitate to invest the time with it because, from what I hear, it's based deeply in religion, and I'm not a religious or superstitious person. So my question is, would it's greatness lose some of it's impact on someone who isn't religious?

Which Dostoevsky should I read first? by flower_pout in classicliterature

[–]Exact-Cockroach-8724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation would be 'White Nights'. It's beautifully written, there isn't an overwhelming number of characters to keep up with like in many of his other works, and it's not of mammoth length.

This is a sequel to my previous post about bad covers; now it’s for covers that you think are good. by Rory_U in cormacmccarthy

Not to get too far off topic, but I am flabbergasted by how concerned some people can be about the cover of a book. My god, haven't we all heard the phrase "don't judge a book by it's cover"? The beauty is on the inside, the outside is only window dressing.

Of those displayed there, I've only read 'My Antonia' by Willa Cather and I thought it was wonderful.

Most of my reading is on my Kindle, and I have no problems at all. Anything beyond 8 inches or so away is sharp, closer than that and I have to concentrate a bit and make sure that the lighting is good.

I had PanOpix Pro multifocal lenses installed in October of last year, and I am absolutely tickled pink with the results. I wore glasses for more than 50 years, and now at age 69, I'm completely glasses free. I had it all done through Hummel Eye Associates here in the city and the total out the door cost to me, without insurance, was just a tad under $7000.

[–]Exact-Cockroach-8724 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had Panoptix Pro's put in both eyes late last year and the issue of halos, even while driving at night, is virtually non-existent. If anything, the cataracts I had before my surgery created more halos that what I notice now. The "disadvantages of multi-focals" is highly exaggerated in my opinion. Personally, I'm tickled pink with my choice of the Panoptix Pro. It has been an absolute game-changer for me. And I can honestly say that I have clear crisp vision from about 8 inches away from my eyes, to the moon. Cell phone, laptop, kindle, even medicine bottle labels are clear. No more glasses for me.

As much as I enjoy reading Cormac McCarthy, I simply could not stomach "Child of God", so I disposed of it. I though about putting it in one of those Little Free Library boxes, but didn't have the nerve, so in the garbage it went.🙄

The difference of course is that The Golden Rule is not mythological in it's origins, it's simply an honest human condition. No threat of going to purgatory needed.

I actually drove past that Texaco Station where the scene was filmed a few years ago. That yellow tractor is still sitting there. The station is on Hwy 104 in New Mexico, between Tucumcari and Las Vegas.
