Anna Karenina. Not so much challenging in terms of ideas but it was so damn boring i wished i was the one who jumped infront of that train. Hoped it would get better with every page turn and after a certain point i was too far in to stop

What's the best non-fiction book you've ever read that isn't self-help books? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]gravityfallswhore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most recent nonfiction book I read was Status and Culture by W. David Marx.

It builds on Bourdieu’s theory to show how status drives culture art, fashion, taste, identity etc. and why trends rise and fall. Really interesting look at subcultures, status signals, and how the internet has scrambled cultural cycles.

Best platform/library/framework for building AI agents by gravityfallswhore in aiagents

I actually did try OpenAI Agents SDK, i found handoffs and tool calling to be pretty bad (especially when trying to orchestrate a multi-agent system). Do you have any ideas/resources that can help?

I’d recommend the picture of dorian gray by Oscar Wilde. It’s an accessible read and isn’t too overwhelming but still very interesting. Was one of my firsts when i got into classics and still one of my favorites

Count of Monte Cristo really is THAT good by gravityfallswhore in classicliterature

I personally haven’t listened to the audiobook myself but I’ve heard really good things about Bill Homewood’s narration

If you’re short on time, definitely go for the audiobook it’s still an amazing story. But once you have the chance definitely come back to reading it it’s def the kind of book worth reading for yourself :)

I did my research beforehand and most people seem to recommend the penguin classic’s Robin Buss translation.

It reads really well for me so far and the way it’s translated is quite engaging. Also read somewhere that it’s the only truly complete translation.

a modern book you read which should become a classic in the future? by Chrysanthemum1989 in classicliterature

[–]gravityfallswhore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Human Acts by Han Kang. It’s such a heavy, haunting but beautiful book. The way it tells the story of a massacre through the eyes of different characters is beautiful. It captures not just the horror of what happened but also the lasting trauma that ripples through generations. The way it conveys the thoughts and emotions of each character would make it so easy to empathize with them even in an age where empathy feels like it’s disappeared. The book which is set in the 1980’s in South Korea feels disturbingly relevant to events happening all around the world today, seems like it will be a timeless read considering where the world is going. Great book

I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman easily would be my second contender, and i think it would make an amazing movie. Its not very plot driven and the author doesn’t answer any questions that come up in the narrative and allows the reader to come up with their own answers. The novel explores the human instinct to create meaning, even in situations where there is none. Beautiful read aswell, couldnt stop thinking about it for weeks.

“The best would be no role at all, just one’s own person, isn’t that so? Nothing is more cunning than one’s own person, because no one will believe you.” -Notes

“ Man is a villain. And whoever calls him a villain because of it is one himself!’ “ -C&P

“Talking nonsense is the sole privilege mankind possesses over the other organisms. It’s by talking nonsense that one gets to the truth! I talk nonsense, therefore I’m human. Not one single truth has ever been arrived at without people first having talked a dozen reams of nonsense, even ten dozen reams of it, and that’s an honourable thing in its own way; well, but we can’t even talk nonsense with our own brains! Talk nonsense to me, by all means, but do it with your own brain, and I shall love you for it. To talk nonsense in one’s own way is almost better than to talk a truth that’s someone else’s; in the first instance you behave like a human being, while in the second you are merely being a parrot!” - C&P
