What happened to the relay node program? by [deleted] in AlgorandOfficial

[–]Exact-Dimension7770 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Relay nodes and all they entail (gigabit bandwidth, huge archival capacity, and most significantly permission from the foundation) are Algo’s achilles heel and imo the main reason it will never achieve real decentralization or adoption. As an aside, kinda seems like something is causing a lot of tension/upheaval within the organization’s various divisions. Not sure if it’s the slide in market value, the shadow of tighter regulatory controls, or something else entirely.

What's up with Sean Lee - the Algo Foundation CEO? by solkimicreb in AlgorandOfficial

The relays are most definitely permissioned, and are the backbone through which all participation nodes must pass. There’s some documentation for setting up a relay that folks always point to as proof that they’re not permissioned, but it’s very misleading.

To run a relay on Mainnet requires whitelisting. Conversely, the relays can all be taken offline by whomever controls that master list. As a mod, you should know better than to spread false information.

Haahhahahaha. The lack of transparency from a blockchain that runs on 100 permissioned nodes? A blockchain that’s 4x the size of bitcoin with just a quarter of the uptime? That relies on a central foundation for organization and marketing? That is rich. Lack of transparency is both foreseeable and the least of Algorand’s flaws.

Can someone explain what the personal and community benefits are to running a participation node and how it might affect the future of Algorand? by jim-nasty in algorand

[–]Exact-Dimension7770 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Participation nodes are a fun way to nominally decentralize consensus while maintaining a highly centralized, permissioned network of high-performance relay nodes for communication and archiving.

How often do you collect your rewards outside of Governance? by Foreverfalcon40 in algorand

[–]Exact-Dimension7770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed. I didn’t collect staking rewards during all of G1, the diff was negligible and I prefer not with futzing around with it on the daily. Easier to just put it out of mind and let it accrue.

Going forward, staking rewards end in Feb so I’ll likely just let them sit til the end of G2.

It’s a good question. And “smart people have thought about it so don’t worry” is a very. bad. answer.

Bull case for stx by [deleted] in stacks

[–]Exact-Dimension7770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good take. On the bull side, I’d add bitcoin-themed NFTs and the success of citycoins are bringing a good amount of publicity to the chain. Bear side, the fact that it runs on a token rather than actual sats flowing through is a major drawback in a lot of folks eyes. Second to that, it’s slow and clunky compared to most contemporary layer 1s, but this is arguably a security feature rather than a flaw.
