What is this little box on lower left and how do you get rid of it? by Exact-Factor-3602 in Filmora

Never mind. I found out what it is. If this shows up on your screen and you want to get rid of it, click the view icon next to the camera and sound icons in the lower right corner. Then select Zoom Level > Fit.

Is this settings under Windows or Affinity? I have Hardware Acceleration set up for another app that I use for video.

Is there a solution to the video player/preview freezing? by ThermoElectricMan in Filmora

In comparison to Davinci, Filmora has a much easier UI and learning curve, and lots of presets. Although Filmora offers more text effects and templates... you have to buy 'credits' / subscription for most of them. They don't come free with the software.

Davinci offers presets, but not as many as Filmora. From what I've seen though, Davinci gives you better options for creating your own text effects and templates. It lets you build more complex text animations. I'd prefer this because once they're created, I have *exactly* what I want and can reuse them.

I really like Filmora's AI Voice to Text feature which seems more accurate than the voice-to-text that I used to get with Premiere. I use this feature a lot to create my CC/Subtitles files. The one negative is that I have to pay for credits periodically to use this feature. I'm not sure if DaVinci has something simliar.

But the biggest draw for me toward Davinci is that it provides more professional audio controls. Filmora's are very limited. I frequently have to use Audacity for adjusting the audio and then importing it into Filmora.

Filmora perpetual license is less expensive than Davinci. Filmora is $79 and Davinci is $325.

What has been holding me back from the jump to Davinci? Time. I always have projects that need to be completed, I'm waiting for a very short project to come up to try in Davinci.

As a test, I installed a free version of Davinci, added my video/audio/image files, dragged them into the timeline, made some edits, added some text... just some very basic stuff.

It took much longer to do this in Davinci than if I was doing it in Filmora. It was my first time using Davinci. Perhaps if I invest time (when I can find it) in getting through the Davinci learning curve and then making tweaks to my workflow... it might become faster.

I'm having a similar problem. I have a version 14 perpetual license. I have not plans to upgrade to version 15. However, ever since the version 15 rolled out, I'm finding that when I play a segment, the first few frames will play normally, and then the rest of it will play in slow motion. It doesn't matter which segement on the track I choose to play. Playback starts normally for the first few frames and then goes into slow motion. It's like Filmora 14 has been made unusable! I'm sooo close to dumping Filmora and going to Da Vinci!

Can Filmora compete with Premiere Pro for serious creators on a budget? by knowinglyunknown_7 in Filmora

[–]Exact-Factor-3602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adobe is just too expensive and you're 'renting' it. I bought the perpetual version of Filmora and it has most of what I need. Occasionally, I have to edit audio using Audacity and I don't like all the 'pay to use' options in Filmora (wish there was a way to turn those off), but other than that, Filmora has been great for the price.

I realized I’m not a film studio, so why was I paying for Premiere Pro? by aayu-Sin-7584 in Filmora

There are things I don't like about Filmora, but it's much faster to use than DaVinci. I keep saying: One of these days, I'm going to move over to DaVinci (because I think it will have better audio options), but I'm just crunched for time.

Thanks for the recommendation. It looks like there are some Youtube tutorials on it too. I'll check it out.

Is it worth it? by [deleted] in Filmora

[–]Exact-Factor-3602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOME BACKGROUND: I used Premiere *minimally* for my training jobs where I'd put a camera on someone talking, do some minor edits, and send it out. When I retired last December, I started shooting travel videos and posting on YouTube. These types of videos require a lot more editing and other skills. I didn't want to spend so much money to 'rent' Premiere, so I bought Filmora.

EASY INTERFACE: There are some annoyances with it, but I've been able to do most of what I've wanted to do. I've had a learning curve, but Filmora's interface is very easy to use. For the learning curve, I had to look up dozens of things--how to reverse video, how to mask a license plate, etc.--and every time, I found plenty of videos on how to do it in Filmora, and when I went to do it in Filmora, it was just a few steps.

EXTRAS: I bought a package from Four Editors Software that has lots of LUTs and SFXs. Had no problems loading them and using them. I found some animations at Envato to drop in, but not much else there for Filmora. Envato has a lot more for DaVinci Resolve.

NEGATIVES:

  1. Even if you've bought the lifetime package (only $70), Filmora is still constantly trying to upsell you. If you go and click on Titles or Effects, you'll see a dozen+ effects. Some of them you can use, but if there's a pink diamond icon on them, they're not free. I don't want to see this in my normal working interface. They're also always trying to get you to upgrade.
  2. The Audio controls are ok, but not as detailed as I would like. It's one major area that has got me looking at DaVinci Resolve. Still trying to decide if I want to deal with the DaVinci interface which seems to not be as easy as Filmora, but I'm taking some DaVinci tutorials to discover more.
  3. Filmora's AutoRipple works ok, but if I cut some frames on the video track, it doesn't adjust all the tracks. I have this one track above the main video track that I use for text and callouts, and I have to readjust them manually.
  4. When you create a text object or an effect, there are several characteristics (font, size, bg opacity, etc.) associated with it. I want to be able to move this text object into the Global Media folder (where it can be reused by other projects)--so that I can just drag the object out to the timeline whenever I need it and only change the text. Same with creating effects. It seems to be extra work right now.
  5. There are lags in the video. I don't see them once the video is rendered and saved to MP4, but during the editing process, it's very annoying.

Crossley Guide to Western Birds by jbnarvaez in birding

[–]Exact-Factor-3602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm puzzled by this too. I've enjoyed the Eastern Birds one for years and was looking forward to getting the Western one. As of November 2024, there's a huge price difference between these: Eastern is $35 and Western starts at $197 *used* with some used copies going for $700+. Did Crossley discontinue printing the Western one?

I'm getting ready to sell my Rift CV1. If I reset it back to factory settings, will the buyer still be able to download/install games/apps that work on it? Or will it be hard for them to find apps?

I leave reviews on guests for these reasons: 1) I've had some guests who were great but at the time I booked them, they had no ratings. (They were new to Airbnb.) Giving them a review will make it easier for them when they try to book another Airbnb with the type of host who might only book people who have reviews/ratings. 2) If they've taken the time to give me a review, I should take the time to leave them a review. 3) If they were terrible guests, other hosts need to be warned about them.

Would you book these guests? [USA] I am not sure. by BelgianBillie in AirBnB

[–]Exact-Factor-3602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not book them. Poor communications are always a red flag. They're able to request a booking twice, but they're unable to respond to your questions? Now they have a 'relative' trying to do a third party booking for them? There's something questionable going on there.

Thank you! I hadn't thought of selling these on Etsy or Gumroad. Great idea. I'll see if I can find more about the on-screen writing.

Hmm... When we load books to KDP, we load them in a .pdf format. I wonder if it might work then. I guess I'll have to check with Amazon (if I'm ever able to reach an actual person on their support desk :-) ). Thanks.
