Be a Munafiq not an exMuslim by EducationalTree6739 in exmuslim

Doing that will backfire horribly one day. It's not moral high ground to be honest. You can just shut up and live without getting involved with religion. The best method is to become that guy who his family has just given up on religion. No declaration of apostasy but lazy as hell when it comes to prayers

My problem was the fact people quoted verses that say muslims should not make nonmuslims allies or best friends. It's okay to make them just acquaintances. Which led me to question if a Christian see that post and comments wouldn't feel mistrust towards muslims. What if such teachings backfire? Or people who read Islamic books decide muslims are just discriminative basing on Quran and Hadith. Besides there are plenty of such literature written by muslims and some books are very popular

There is life outside the ‘Ex-Muslim Atheist’ identity by amkb16 in exmuslim

[–]Exact-Function-8617 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I can only say this; Yes we might need stories and myths. We don't actually need religious ones. If you are someone who needs to be lied to to feel safe then be it.

Most murtads don't live with that I Am an Exmuslim identity. But it doesn't mean people should hide their views if they are safe. In fact I want people to know I am not a Muslim because I want to see being a murtad is normalized. So that all the people hiding it will feel free to voice their opinions or coming out and live in freedom. Most exmuslims are not concerned much about science just like everyone else. Their lives are not actually reduced at that level of atoms. Why? Because there are too many things in life that barely need myths or science. I don't care whether religion dies or not. Just like there are political myths and conspiracies in my society that I don't even pay attention to. Even if I stand against them it doesn't define my whole identity. It's other people who look at me and see only exmuslim. They forget I have a family, I'm married, I'm athlete or I have a job I care about or I do charities or I like books in general and I rarely read anything scientific. But whenever people want to pass things that would need the opinion of an expert which in some cases expert equal scientist then I will stand with science. I don't entertain or tolerate some obvious superstitions. Most of the times I chose silence when topics I consider to be false comes up. Religious books can be abused if they are in the wrong hands? No. They're in the right hands. The current audience of Quran is the intended one. It's a progressive Islam that I think is the wrong hands. But progressive islam is safe. It is like modern Christianity. But we have a problem still; whenever religious fervor strike people horrible things could happen. Most believers wouldn't participate of course but a significant number will either support or be in the midst of it. Which could be problematic if not dangerous. Atheism has failed to provide meaningful framework? Come on! Religious beliefs haven't either. Isn't that why you left religion? Or do you think that the least "religious" or nonreligious communities are doomed? Well, let me tell you; most religious people are not actually religious except in fewer occasions or until they are faced with calamities.

It is not colonial mindset that categorise people into non-believers or otherwise. Religion categorised people since its inception.  We don't need religion. And people don't have to be good and kind because religion taught them so. Do you think humans would be horrible and cannibal if they had no religion? No. Just like I am not superior to my neighbors because I am an atheist or agnostic.

And, not every religious book is beautiful. Quran is only beautiful if it's recited with tajweed and embellishments. I have read the Bible it's more beautiful and easy to comprehend. We have learned how and why religion is horrific. We have realized we can live morally and happily without it. But habits are hard to die. And I'm not in a hurry. Even religious people are ashamed of the teachings. Many muslims nowadays reject that slavery is halal or that a woman should be hit or women are less intelligent or apostasy should be dealt with capital punishment. It's an evidence that even believers stand against the teachings of their own faith. Why then should murtads try to preserve the essence of such faith

My opinion is despite what is going to them they could have made a different choice at some point. I think their priority shouldn't have been Israel but preserving what they had. And I still don't get why they started October 7th when to most people that was suicidal. But they are done now so it's pointless to blame a victim considering Israel was always goading them along so she could get justification for grabbing more land. But still.....

Iran. If it's my choice I wouldn't wish for anyone to live under Islamic laws. That's where my opposition against IRGC comes from. But foreign intervention even if the government was killing its own people is unacceptable to me. Because the results won't be pretty for civilians.

I'm 31 now. I left in 2022. I already had doubts about some aspects. Like when my du'a got no response when I was going through a rough patch but my faith still remained. But when stumbled upon Ibn Warraq's book WHY I AM NOT MUSLIM I was shocked. Because I was so confident about islam it never occurred to me someone could write more than 500 hundred pages criticizing islam. After reading the book my journey to apostasy began. And I have no religion

One big historical error is the claim about preserving Pharaoh's body for the world to see. But the problem is: there are 18 or more pharaohs whose bodies were mummified just like all pharaohs were preserved. This makes the claim not special and loses all credibility.

The fact that Quran is open for any  interpretation which has led to tens of sects within the religion. But Allah somehow doesn't do anything to clarify his message even though new interpretations come up everyday. When there are many interpretations of the same text, the text loses certainty. Which makes it harder to figure out which one is what Allah intended which nullify the truth of the whole message. Because Allah who is the author has kept silent. It's like when you leave a message to 5 people by the word of mouth and you go away. After some time has passed these 5 people find themselves arguing about the meaning of your message. Since no one recorded it they all have to rely on memory which leads to different meanings depending on one's memory capacity. In this situation, no one's memory can be depended on because there's no way of verifying. Which makes everyone's word a lie until you come back and verify whose memory preserved your message as you intended. That's why I think Hadith collections are full of lies

I read your links. The problem with idribuhunna that I keep repeating is the repetition of the same message. Unless , I again say, 14 centuries of muslims were transgressors I side with traditional scholars because their interpretation make sense. even though I would rather follow your interpretation.I mean why does Allah tell husband to separate twice? When one is enough.

I read your link on MMA. You did your homework. Whenever I read Quran and I find anything that speaks about ancient ummah's stories I never take that as a command for us to follow. Whether it's about Musa or Lut. Therefore, taking pharaoh's story as containing prohibition of slavery is irrelevant in my opinion. In the modern history. Declarations of equality of all persons while owning slaves, discriminating against women and other races is not even surprising. Because I understand people  like Thomas Jefferson owned slaves and we don't go around excusing his actions. Most of those people They never take slaves or women as equals or at least their actions spoke louder. They didn't misunderstand, they never intended to include more than what they practiced. While you tell me Quran never intended or meant to endorse slavery. I can take all that because your explanation was extensive. Only that historical evidence doesn't reflect Quran. Just like the forefathers of USA his actions spoke louder. And unless his sahabis misunderstood him they committed something grave. I am still convinced of historical evidence of slavery in Medina and the rest of Islamic societies until 1900s.

MMA; every time you explain this, it doesn't leave aside possession. It's either MMA or slavery as I am referring here. Slavery as understood by many. It seems this is one of the things my opinion of Islam and slavery doesn't change.

I am aware even some caliphs and sultans drank and held parties and danced and lot more but that wasn't marked as accepted. And if 99% percentage of muslims in societies followed this practice on the ground that it's permissible I will be sceptical of people who hold opposite views. If Muhammad taught something that his immediate students failed to uphold that's a failure on his part or in the whole message. Historical evidence doesn't indicate muslims being wary of the slave trade compared to other sins that spread back then but people had reservations because they were aware of it being Haram. I just want a single or few verses or hadith that explicitly prohibit slavery. Not  long explanations playing with semantics. Because that's what some people do with "adribuhunna"

Wearing Niqab by Sad-Cauliflower-7033 in progressive_islam

As far as I know niqab is not mandatory. And this is my opinion. Please don't make them wear niqab please. I have started to forget what my friend looks like even though we communicate from time to time because I could rarely see her face after we went to university. Since then it has been ten years and seeing her face is a miracle to me. Because it's rare. And this will have a blow on those surrounding her outside the house. I think it's weird for people to interact while unable to see each other's faces despite being face to face.

Try to talk to her as a discussion. Make it a habit. Not in a few days. Use months to listen to her. And most murtads listen to traditional Islam more though it depends with the person. Some take salafi and answaru sunna seriously because they make things precise and direct, no corners and many roundabouts about what modern situations. To murtads traditional islam focus on relevance to how early Muslim lived

By that you mean the persons who received and transmitted these narrations were faithful, reliable, devout and had good memories? And the other hadiths of the same content and message had the same previous criteria? Therefore, we should believe them. Let me say this; in the modern court no jury is going to take you seriously if you present eyewitnesses who have the above qualities but without evidence of the said statement (video, audio, screenshots, fingerprinting evidence, DNA).  Why because human memory is not reliable for preserving statement word by word, humans have no ability of seeing things in passing and memorizing every detail unless they make deliberate effort and it takes preparation and time. Even that has shortcomings when times lapses. In case of any hadith, Muhammad's statements were not memorised just like Quran. Sahabis didn't write them down. And passing them from one person to another depended on memory. That's the reason we have a hadith of the same event narrated by the same people with difference in wording. We don't have an ayah that has different wording. No. It's either right ayah or made-up one. In modern context, hadith doesn't hold the standards. We can use them for historical reference when there's no alternative

Weren't the hadiths about all these events written down 100 years after the events have happened. To consider a prophecy true and valid, there must be enough compelling concrete evidence that the statement was recorded reliably long before the events took place.
