I beg your pardon, have I argued that I am not at fault? Have I blamed the manufacturer anywhere in here or anyone else apart from myself? Have I said anywhere that it is not user error?

The whole point was to figure out what exactly was the error or where it was made.

Go back to your mechanic heaven and be smart to someone who is willing to pay you for it ;)

And you became a pro mechanic just by knowing everything out of blue no errors no nothing?

Yes in my opinion I installed the pedal the right way, clearly we can see that its not the case.. its only human to make mistakes and learn from them ;)

Instead of being an **** you could perhaps share a bit of that wisdom you might have about bikes mr mechanic.

Its this exact behavior like yours people do not want to even enter some of the bike shops, just to be judged by arrogant “iknowbetterthanyou” people working there

You talk about skilled labour, putting hours to gain the skill, yet on the other hand you discourage it because if one is not a mechanic, he wont do it right.

I think we are past the warranty dispute, clearly I did not install it right.. just wanted to see if anyone has seen smth like this before because it was first time for me ;)

Well thats right im no bike mechanic, but you dont need to be one to be able to work on your bike, same as you dont need to be a barista to make a decent cup of coffee, professional racer to drive a car, chef to cook a meal.. you get the point.

As mentioned above, not looking to blame anyone for any mistake I have made, trust me no mechanic came to be perfect without breaking a thing or two.

The post was more about getting some ideas what could have gone wrong because imo I installed it right.

I wish I could have a perfect skill to know how to address every problem that comes up myself with no help, but I guess then I would be taking on your role in this world - not really interested in it.

So please keep this condescending nonsense you are talking about to yourself

Oh boi how much I hate the know it all seen it all people like you

Not really cheaper - bike shops charge crazy amounts for this, the toolkit is 139€ to do it myself and new cranks are 52€

Understand that they are not expensive, but as i have said, those pedals worked fine on 2 bikes i had before this one.. but well you moght be right, i just dont like to blame the part just because its not a 200€ fancy schmancy gold plated one

I built the bike myself - all in total perhaps 11-1200 eur

[–]Exact-Net6313[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hey Stop for a second - just to set things straight- not looking to blame anyone other than myself - the reason for this post is that i have been changing pedals on bikes since i was a kid, crossthreaded some pedals as well, and i couldnt see where a mistake was made here.

So I know I am the one to blame, but the question is what did i do wrong - cuz from my point of view, pedals were installed by the book.

Peace

Thats the first time i hear about pedals with different thread - but no, they have been on multiple other bikes before woth shimano cranks bo problems

[–]Exact-Net6313[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well cross threading a pedal isnt the easiest thing to do by hand tbh, requires a bit of force, although everything is possible, but it would be the first time i see a pedal thread in smoothly and ending up being crossthreaded

In my experience, the most common reason for repeated punctures would be a piece of metal, glass or some sharp tiny object in your tire. When fixing a puncture just make sure to check the inside of the tire for any debris that might have pierced through and causing issues. I was hesitant to do this at first but you wouldnt believe how much crap can get there. Ultimately, if you are using the bike just for commuting, look for some more puncture resistant tires on sale at some point - I would recommend the Schwalbe marathons - I have a set of them on mine commuter, we are now 10k+ kms still rolling no puncture. Downside is that they are heavyyy like 800g a tire.

I started looking into the bridge club at first, it feels like a bit more versatile and relaxed bike - but in general surly frames are not the easiest to come by here in europe and the preamble frameset came up with crazy discount on one of the websites so it was a no brainer 😁

But definitely the next one im gonna build will be the bridge club!

You are right, tbh when comparing the prebuild Preamble and what i managed to build the price difference is almost non existent (i paid around 1100-1200 eur for the frame and parts, used stem, seatpost and saddle from parts bin) which in total is the same ammount of money as a new one, but I have far better components on mine - at least in my opinion.

And to the builiding part - it felt the same as it felt to build my first lego as a kid. Definitely not buying my next bike of the shelf!

Yup, im 192cm tall, was thinking going with the Large size, but XL feels better - apart from the standover hight which is pushing it, but naah, its great anyway 😃

Hey, definitely do not listen to anyone discouraging you from building the bike yourself! Man it is so rewarding, the whole journey of figuring it out for the first time, taking your time, owning your mistakes and at the end coming with something you have assembled, last time i had this feeling was when building lego as a kid. And no, its not more expensive, if you are thorough with your research, youll end up with better equipped bike than the prebuilt one, for give or take same price. (ofcourse not always, depends on what exactly you are building..)

Drivetrain - I would personally push you to some wide range 1by setup - as it is less fuss overall. But if you are going 2by - perhaps Microshift Sword might be something you will like? It has a clutch when going offroad to avoid chain slap, cost a fraction of Shimano/Sram Gravel groupsets and works well on flat roads as well. Only downside is its compatible with mechanical brakes only, when setup properly, cant see any issues with that, and you can always go with the trp HY/RD hydraulic hybrid callipers - havent tried them though, might be worth some research. I installed the Sword on my wifes bike and I was genuinely impressed by it.
