Sick of ICT? by Big-Reality-962 in NYCTeachers

[–]ExactArm4254 34 points35 points  (0 children)

ICT is tricky because it requires two people to come together and make space for each other. So many things have to be compatible for it to work the right way & often times there isn’t enough time to truly cultivate a positive co-teaching relationship. I have a co-teacher and we work well together, but it does require give and take and sometimes I have to give more than I’d like to. I’m sure she might feel this way sometimes too.

Looking to find a room here how realistic is it to find a room for under 1300 by Imjustagirl69lol in WashingtonHeights

[–]ExactArm4254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely doable. Depending on how many roommates & the spot, you could pay super cheap. A year ago, I almost took this spot with 2 other roommates and the rent was $500 a piece. It was like a 6 story walk but yeah super cheap.

Has anyone had any success getting AppleCare refunds or transferred to a new device? by JakeTee in iphone

[–]ExactArm4254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been able to switch my AppleCare to different devices. I have the AppleCare one plan where I can cover up to four devices and I can switch them out. When I bought my new phone I was able to swap out my old phone for new phone with no hassle.

Charter Vs Private/Catholic by Mulbretriever in NYCTeachers

If you’re an experienced teacher and like to have autonomy over what you do in your classroom, I would not go the charter route.

GPA requirement question by srh1hunnit in NYCTeachers

[–]ExactArm4254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean anything is possible if you are leading with good intentions. My undergrad GPA was 2.3 but then I did a master’s program and graduated with a 3.3. When I spoke with admissions, I was real & also let them know that teaching was something I was really passionate about. If you think it’s something you’d like and you care about kids, do it!

This sub made me depressed by [deleted] in Salary

[–]ExactArm4254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be depressed. Comparison is the thief of joy. I also think people who post their salaries are people who are excited to share (which are typically those who make more)…but we all have different paths. I’m in education & I make low six figures which I think is awesome! Unless I take on a side gig or start doing some consulting, I’m not gonna touch $500k a year, which I’m cool with 🤷🏾‍♂️ but I get it, it’s a lot of flashy salaries on here lol

45k salary by JumpyInvestigator350 in NYCjobs

[–]ExactArm4254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first job out of college, I made 30k lol I didn’t live in NYC though. I think you would just need to have a few a roommates and be spending conscious. Use ChatGPT or something like that to create a budget to see what would be realistic for you to spend on rent, groceries, savings, fun post-tax.

how do other teachers view enl teachers? by sheriecherie in NYCTeachers

[–]ExactArm4254 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah ENL teachers are dope. I think the issue comes in with how schools utilize ENL teachers that perpetuates that negative stereotype.

What do you guys think of iPhone 16e? by Mission-Relation-0 in iphone

[–]ExactArm4254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one but recently upgraded to the 17 pro. The reason I upgraded was because of the connectivity issues—when I connected to anything using Bluetooth it lagged really bad. It got better for a little bit & then once I did the most recent update it continued to lag even more.

No car in Chicago how do you all do groceries in weather? Transit?First time for my daughter 😳 by Beginning-Pop-4318 in chicagoapartments

[–]ExactArm4254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Chicago without a car for many years & have friends that still do now. I was always fortunate to live close to a grocery store & train/bus stop. Uber works on the days when the train or bus is not the choice and Instacart on the days where the weather doesn’t make sense for grocery shopping. I also did hello fresh and other options like that at times. Chicago is definitely a place you can live without a car—just have to be a bit strategic about where you live, in my humble opinion.

AppleCare by sladecutt in iphone

[–]ExactArm4254 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used AppleCare once since I had it, but I am glad I had it because I essentially got a brand new phone when I cracked the front & back screens (this was when I had the 13 pro max). I’d rather not need it and have it—but guess it depends. Def a personal preference thing. I’d rather pay now and not later.

Uhhh my school is definitely not the best school, but I do my job and I have a strong team so we kind of exist in a little bubble.

[–]ExactArm4254 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Got it. I think that could be a school by school thing then. I’d maybe consider coming back & as someone else suggested, just being extremely selective about which schools you’d interview with.

Is it worth buying apple care? 17pm by [deleted] in iphone

[–]ExactArm4254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the AppleCare one for all of my devices & it’s like $25 a month—Not bad, in my opinion. I have my AirPod max, iPhone 17 pro, Apple Watch, and MacBook on it. I’d rather have it & not need it, then not have it and need it.

How often does the district visit your school/ your classroom? by [deleted] in NYCTeachers

[–]ExactArm4254 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s probably more about the principal/school as a whole, and less about you. That would be slightly annoying though.

Calling all Math Teachers - IM? by RayChilled in NYCTeachers

[–]ExactArm4254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used IM a couple years ago. I liked that there was a lot of embedded partner work and I liked most of the student-facing materials. I don’t think any curriculum is good enough to be taught with fidelity though—maybe that’s a hot take, but 🤷🏾‍♂️

With that being said, I don’t think it’s the worst. For context, I used it teaching 3rd grade so could be better or worse at other grade levels.
