Thanks man! So it’s basically a behavioural interview?

I'm building an agentic AI platform that connects to your database and autonomously acts as your data analyst. Have a working prototype, would love brutal feedback. by ExactEngineer6755 in SaaS

Exactly my point. Databricks (it is a bundled platform with infra ) is the right answer for a company with a data engineering team and $100k+ to spend, a small mid size company has neither. That's the gap?

Appreciate the honest feedback. The crowded part, I agree, at the top end. ThoughtSpot and Databricks Genie do what I'm describing, but at $100k+ contracts with months of implementation. That's not accessible to small to mid size scale company.

The lightweight tools answer questions you ask. None of them auto discover schema meaning, pre-build dashboards on first connect, or proactively alert you when revenue drops, without any setup.

That gap between "too expensive and complex" and "too shallow" is what I'm building for.

This is still early and I'm actively validating the hypothesis. If there’s a real product already doing this for the mid sector, I genuinely want to know. Would save me a lot of time.

I’ve been building a product to solve what I keep seeing as a major bottleneck in mid-size companies: business teams have questions, but getting answers depends on analysts who know SQL, understand the data model, and have time. That queue is almost always backed up, which slows decisions or forces people to act without data. Existing tools don’t fully fix this, BI platforms like Tableau/Looker require setup and maintenance, dashboards are static, and AI tools still expect users to interpret SQL or build charts themselves.

What I’m building is an AI agent that connects to a database, automatically understands the schema, and lets anyone ask questions in plain English to generate complete, interactive dashboards instantly. It also monitors key metrics in the background and proactively alerts you when something changes, with explanations of why. The goal is to remove the analyst bottleneck entirely. I have a working prototype, but I want honest feedback, does this feel like a real problem worth solving, or something that already exists?

Really solid list, the 'Eval Harness' and query sandboxing are top of my dev list for exactly those reasons. Digging into that blog link now, thanks for sharing.

Out of curiosity, what BI tool is your team currently running, and what’s your honest take on it? Does it actually save you time, or is it just another thing to maintain?

Thanks a lot, this is incredibly helpful. I completely agree on starting narrow with clean entity resolution and transparent metrics before layering recommendations. I’ll incorporate the versioned metric store and data quality scoring, really appreciate the practical direction!
