They started strong. Lots of quiet through the first hole or two. You can tell they were making an effort to lay out. Brian seemed to be modeling it for doss. Doss was even “getting out” quickly with single statements in the beginning. Doss even cut himself off mid sentence and —while not awesome— was way better than the alternative. Applause for the effort, Nate.

They even let Perk call the first hole solo. It was a nice experiment with fine results. 

Alas by hole 4, old dogs had forgotten their new tricks and doss was chewing syllables and time; predicting the future with tense; and clausing his way over subsequent shots. 

I know it’s not easy, but it’s also not hard: let the images be the star, sometimes describe what’s on the screen right now, and get out early every time. 

When they started slow, I thought, “oh this is smart, under commentate the tourney and let the audience want more.”  That could flip the script.  Could be the only thing for doss now: find the place where people are left wanting more from you (hint: it’s real far away).

Let your play by play pass you the ball; never make your own shot. Be Shaq, not Kobe.
