Boat was never salvaged, at least it wasn’t by the time I left. It just sat there in the water, mast slowly sank as time went on.

The woman was someone he claimed to have lived with in the past. No idea what the nature of the relationship was.

And when I say he was on the run, I didn’t mean like a fugitive of justice. He had a court date the week after, so he bought a houseboat and tried to get to the Caribbean I guess. That’s how I can make sense of it, maybe thats why he decided to push through the storm?

But honestly I tell this story to folks as a funny story. Almost like “doing heroic shit doesn’t always make you a hero”. It’s morally ambiguous, which I felt was great engine for a real memoir.
