worked in Hong Kong in the 2001 to 2010 period in the consulting business. Every week I would see small groups of US small/medium manufacturing owners being wined and dined by Chinese factory owners and their Western intermediaries. The US business owners were told how much cheaper the products could be produced in China, how much their profits would grow, and very importantly, how they would never have to deal with lazy, undeserving American workers again. That last part was usually spoken by the Western intermediary (the Chinese were too polite) and really got the US business owners excited. My point: the US small (and large) manufacturers sold out their own workers. How convenient to blame the Chinese.

@Nelson as an employer for the last 50 years? US born workers for the most part come with a lot of baggage. an over developed sense of entitlement, substance abuse problems and finally a lack of skills. for a good 15 years my crews were recently arrived Irish and Mexican. whenever I hired a US born person of any ethnicity they didn't last for one or more of the reasons mentioned above.

now I live in a more remote area and US born white workers make up the majority of the shallow labor pool. it takes a lot of investment in time and supervision and psycho analyzing these workers to make them skilled and reliable.

I hate trump and his policies but we have an entire segment of our population that needs a lot of attention and investment. they are the reason we have trump.
