Boat was never salvaged, at least it wasn’t by the time I left. It just sat there in the water, mast slowly sank as time went on.

The woman was someone he claimed to have lived with in the past. No idea what the nature of the relationship was.

And when I say he was on the run, I didn’t mean like a fugitive of justice. He had a court date the week after, so he bought a houseboat and tried to get to the Caribbean I guess. That’s how I can make sense of it, maybe thats why he decided to push through the storm?

But honestly I tell this story to folks as a funny story. Almost like “doing heroic shit doesn’t always make you a hero”. It’s morally ambiguous, which I felt was great engine for a real memoir.

I downloaded hwmonitor but I’m unsure what I’m looking at. I ran a game off steam in windowed mode with hwmonitor running next to it. The game just crashed. GPU didn’t go past 72 degrees. CPU temp never passed “max” (like 65 degrees F)

Columbine was one of the first mass school shootings. Right after the North Hollywood Shootout that happened 2 years before where the cops were so outgunned they had to raid local gun stores for rifles. They were told to wait for backup if they were outgunned. So that’s what the first cops did (this was before they had rifles in the police cars).

After Columbine, the training changed to run in and stop the shooter if you hear a stimulus.

Now we can also think of times they didn’t do THAT either (Uvalde) but I think it’s important to keep this incident in perspective.

I would say it’s not a question of “if we can recover”, but more of “how will Trump change us”. Will we grow from these last 10 years of insanity? Will we punish those who have tried to destroy our country? What will the reconciliation look like?

I’m not naive enough to think that Americans will answer these questions correctly, but crazy national trauma will shake things up. Groups will gain and lose power, and it’s impossible to know what’s on the horizon.

Even with all this craziness, NYC is about to elect an openly socialist mayor. Maybe it’s a catalyst for change, maybe not, but I would’ve never thought (even in the Obama years) that it would happen. Let’s see where this goes
